Main route of Tsushima Warm Current (TWC) and a roundabout flow near Goto Islands were examined by water mass analysis and geostrophic calcualtion with hydrographic data observed in the sea between Cheju and Gotto Islands in winter, spring, 1998 and summer. 1994. Most of warm and saline waters which distribute in the center of Cheju-Gotto channel in winter link with waters from the southwest but not to link with waters from the southeast of Gotto Islands. Warm and saline waters near Gotto Islands seems to turn around the islands and to go southward along the iso-bath line. Geostrphic calculation shows that volume transports passing through Cheju-Gotto channel is about 26.9 Sv in winter. 16.4 Sv in spring and summer. But volume transport in the depths of 100-150m is a little larger in summer than in winter. which supports the fact that transport volume passing the western channel of Korean Straits is two times larger in summer than in winter.

The term osteomyelitis literally means inflammation of bone marrow. It is described as an inflammatory condition of bone primarily engaging the medullary Following circulatory collapse and ischemia, the involved portions of the bone become necrotic. Cellulitis and osteomyelitis are the most frequent complications of fractures of the mandible and maxilla, because there is an abscessed tooth in the line of fracture. Since most fractures are compound fractures, infection may develop because of contact with oral secretions or outside air. The treatment of chronic osteomyelitis is still under debate. Some authors rely on antibiotics alone, while others advocate combination with surgery. But when infection occurs, establish proper drainage and administer antibiotics. Author treated a case of infected mandibular fracture with mandibular osteotomy, sequestrectomy, iliac bone graft and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, who had suffered suppurative osteomyelitis and mandibular nonunion following the open reduction of the mandibular fracture.
물리적 처리에 따른 낙엽송 방부원주목의 표면할렬 방지효과

본 연구에서는 국산 낙엽송 방부원주목을 대상으로 물리적 처리(인사이징, 배할, 열기건조)에 따른 표면할렬 방지효과와 장기 사용연한 확보 가능성을 실험적으로 검토하였다. 표면할렬이 목재 내·외부의 급격한 수분경사로 인해 발생하기 때문에 본 연구에서는 국내 최저 평형함수율 조건[온도(2℃), 습도(44.6%)]에서 시험편이 평형함수율(8.6%)에 도달할 때까지 실험을 진행하였다. 물리적 처리에 따른 표면할렬 방지효과를 검토한 결과, 무처리 시험편(Type C)의 경우, 모든 시험편에서 약제 침투 깊이보다 깊은 할렬이 발생하여 장기 내부후성을 확보할 수 없는 것으로 나타났다. 한편, 약제침투도 개선을 위해 사용하는 인사이징 처리만으로도 시험편의 80%에서 약제침투깊이보다 깊은 표면할렬을 방지하는 효과가 있었다. 그러나 국내에서 할렬을 방지하고자 사용하는 배할 처리는 인사이징 처리에 비하여 약제침투깊이보다 깊은 표면할렬을 야기하였다. In this study, the surface check reduction effect of preservative-treated Korean larch round-wood was investigated by applying three physical treatments, such as incising, kerfing, and kiln-drying. Moreover, the possibility of long- term service life was also checked by comparing the depth of surface check and the penetration depth of preservative. A rapid gradient of wood moisture content between surface and center causes a surface check. Thus, the effect of reducing surface check was carried out at the lowest equilibrium moisture content (EMC) condition, temperature (2℃), humidity (44.6%), in outdoor locations in Korea until the test specimens reach to the 8.6% EMC. As a result, the preservative- treated specimens without incising, kerfing, kiln-drying (Type C) could not ensure the long-term service life due to a large surface check. Because the surface check depth of all specimens was deeper than the penetration depth of preservative. In case of the incising treated specimens (Type I), 80% of them, the depth of surface check was not deeper than the penetration depth of preservative. However, when a kerfing was additionally treated (Type B), a possibility of happening deeper surface check than penetration depth of preservative was increased rather than Type I.
Numerical Simulation of Performance of Laser-Driven Ram Accelerator

LRAMAC (Laser-Driven Ram Accelerator) is a new device for the propulsion of projectile under high velocity condition. LRAMAC is a little different from other accelerators in that it needs continuous laser source energy for acceleration process. One of the issues for LRAMAC is the optical design of the projectile, because the focusing point of laser behind projectile decides its performance. Laser-supported detonation wave is a main energy source mechanism. The present study shows the performance analysis of LRAMAC using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Laser power, laser energy, laser frequency and laser focusing point play important roles in LRAMAC's performance. In this research, blast wave produced by explicit energy input is used.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The aim of this study was to investigate effects of wood species, thickness and lamina combinations, and span-to-depth ratio ( <SUB> R sd </SUB> ) on bending strength and stiffness of cross-laminated timber (CLT) floor element. CLTs with three different thickness (90 mm, 120 mm, and 150 mm) were manufactured using two species, larch and pine. <SUB> R sd </SUB> was 12:1 for shear specimens and 24:1 for bending specimens. Four-point bending test was carried out in accordance with prEN 16351. The higher density species (larch) CLT showed higher load resistance with larger span length. The load resistances of larch CLT was 1.2 times higher than pine CLT. The maximum span length of larch CLT was 1.1 times longer than pine CLT. As the thickness of CLT was increased, load resistance and span length were also increased. When the thickness of CLT was increased from 90 mm to 150 mm, load resistances was increased by approximately 308% for larch and 310% for pine, and span length was increased by approximately 90% for larch and 89% for pine.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Ultimate and serviceability limit state design of CLT were evaluated. </LI> <LI> Effect of lamina combination on moment and deflection properties of CLT were analyzed. </LI> <LI> Bending properties were characterized by gamma, shear analogy, and isotropic models. </LI> <LI> Span limit by deflection of CLT made from different lamina combination was analyzed. </LI> <LI> Failure and bending properties of CLT associated with different spans were found. </LI> </UL> </P>

Anti-cholinesterase (ChE)s are commonly prescribed as the symptomatic treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. They are applied to prevent the breakdown of neurotransmitter acetylcholine (ACh) that bind to muscarinic and nicotinic receptors in the synaptic cleft. Seaweeds are one of the richest sources of bioactive compounds for both nutraceuticals and pharmacognosy applications. This study aimed to determine the anti-ChEs activity of Gracilaria manilaensis, one of the red seaweeds notables for its economic importance as food and raw materials for agar production. Methanol extracts (GMM) of G. manilaensis were prepared through maceration, and further purified with column chromatography into a semi-pure fraction. Ellman assay was carried out to determine the anti-acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and anti-butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE) activities of extracts and fractions. Lineweaver- Burk plot analysis was carried out to determine the inhibition kinetic of potent extract and fraction. Major compound(s) from the most potent fraction was determined by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LCMS). GMM and fraction G (GMMG) showed significant inhibitory activity AChE with EC50 of 2.6 mg/mL and 2.3 mg/mL respectively. GMM and GMMG exhibit mixed-inhibition and uncompetitive inhibition respectively against AChE. GMMG possesses neuroprotective compounds such as cynerine A, graveolinine, militarinone A, eplerenone and curumenol. These findings showed a promising insight of G. manilaensis to be served as a nutraceutical for neuronal health care in the future.
건축물의 친환경 시공·해체를 위한 재료 분리형 GLT-Steel 보 개발

In this study, an easily recyclable separable glued-laminated timber (GLT)-steel beam was developed, and a structural design method was presented. The GLT and steel were mechanically composited using self-tapping screws. The GLT-steel beam was designed to fail in the compression of GLT. The bending moment and load-carrying capacity of the GLT-steel beam were predicted based on composite beam theory and compared with experimental test data. As a result, the GLT-steel beam exhibited ductile behavior, and compression failure of GLT was observed. The screw connection showed no damage while the steel plate was extended. The load-carrying capacity of GLT after failure was similar to the load resistance predicted by the compressive strength of GLT and the tensile strength of steel. This indicates that the ductile behavior of the GLT-steel beam can be safely designed by the tensile strength (yield) of steel.
