A Sliding Mode Observer for Reconstructing Cyber Attacks
Joseph Chang Lun Chan,Tae H. Lee Institute of Embedded Engineering of Korea 2023 대한임베디드공학회논문지 Vol.18 No.6
This paper presents a sliding mode observer (SMO) for reconstructing cyber attacks affecting a system. The system is first re-expressed such that its design freedom is easier to manipulate. The SMO is then used to reconstruct the cyber attack affecting the system. A simulation example is used to verify the performance of the SMO under two types of cyber attacks, and its results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed scheme.
BRAND STRUCTURES MATTER EXTENSION SPILLOVER EFFECTS
Joseph W. Chang 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2018 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2018 No.07
This research examines the interplay between brand structure (i.e., cohesiveness and similarity) and extension typicality on extension spillover effects using two experimental studies. The results reveal that the dominance of brand similarity and cohesiveness on extension spillover effects depends on how typical the effecting brand extension is to its brand. For typical extensions, the cohesiveness of existing brand extensions is the determinant factor on extension spillover effects. In contrast, for atypical extensions, the similarity of existing brand extensions is the determinant factor on extension spillover effects. Moreover, brands with similar brand extensions are inherently perceived as high cohesive brands, which enhance perceived brand quality. In contrast, brands with dissimilar brand extensions are inherently perceived as low cohesive brands, which weaken perceived brand quality. However, brands with dissimilar brand extensions are perceived to be cohesive brands if the product functions of the brand extensions are interdependent.
To sponsor or not to sponsor: Transgressions are unequally detrimental
Joseph W. Chang 한국마케팅과학회 2017 마케팅과학연구 Vol.27 No.3
Extant research in endorsements has widely examined the impacts of scandals on the evaluations of tarnished endorsers and endorsed brands. However, less is known about the impacts of specifi c scandal characteristics on tarnished endorsers and endorsed brands. Capitalizing on the cue-diagnosticity theory, this study investigates the infl uence of transgression relevance and severity on the evaluations of athlete endorsers and endorsed brands. The results indicate that transgression severity and relevance yield diff erent patterns of erosion on endorser expertise, endorser images, and endorsed brands. Specifi cally, high-severity transgressions are more detrimental than low-severity transgressions to brand evaluations. However, high-relevance transgressions are more detrimental than low-relevance transgressions only when the severity of transgression is high. Severe transgressions are not severely detrimental unless the transgressions are highly relevant to the expertise of the athlete endorsers. Thus, the consideration of sponsorship termination for tarnished athlete endorsers should be hierarchical. It is plausible to terminate the sponsorship for tarnished endorsers involved in severe and relevant transgressions. However, some tolerance may be given for athlete endorsers involved in severe, but irrelevant, transgressions.
Descriptor Observers for Robust Fault Reconstruction in a Class of Nonlinear Descriptor Systems
Joseph Chang Lun Chan,Tae H. Lee,Wen-Shyan Chua,Chee Pin Tan 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2023 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.21 No.3
This paper presents a robust fault reconstruction scheme for a class of nonlinear descriptor systems that is affected by disturbances. The fault enters the system both linearly and through nonlinear functions in both the state and output equations. The system is first re-expressed into a form which is easier to manipulate. Two cases are considered: in the first case, the fault is present in the nonlinear function of the output equation, whereas in the second case, the nonlinear function of the output equation does not contain the fault. In each case, a nonlinear descriptor observer is used to reconstruct the fault, where the gains of the observer are designed using linear matrix inequalities such that the effect of disturbances on the fault reconstruction is bounded. As a result of their structure, the proposed descriptor observers do not require restrictions on the rates of the input and disturbances (unlike in observers using a state-space structure) which makes the proposed observers more widely applicable. Finally, two simulation examples are performed to verify the performance of the proposed observers.

<P>The purpose of this paper is to study the weak and strong convergence theorems of the implicit iteration process for a countable family of Lipschitzian pseudocontraction mappings in Banach spaces. The results presented in this paper extend and improve some recent results announced by some authors.</P>
