Beneficial Role of Ginseng Saponin on Hemodynamic Functions of Porcine Blood Vessel

The previous reports have showed that ginseng saponins, which are the active ingredients of Panax ginseng, cause the relaxation of artery that are contracted due to a various of hormones or potassium (K?). Recently, we also showed that ginsenosides differentially regulate channel activity. The purpose of this study was to examine whether ginseng saponins affect contraction induced by K?, serotonin (5-HT), or acetylcholine (Ach) in porcine coronary vessel. Treatment with concentrations of ginseng saponins caused a relaxation of 25 mM KCl-induced porcine coronary artery contraction. Also, ginseng saponin induced a significant dose-dependent relaxation of 3 μM 5-HT-induced porcine coronary artery with the endothelium. In the porcine artery with the endothelium, ginseng saponins induced a relaxation by 3 μM 5-HT in a concentration-dependent pattern. Ginseng saponins induced relaxation of both 25 mM KCl- and 3 μM 5-HT-induced coronary artery contraction in the absence and presence of the endothelium. In contrast, treatment with 100 ㎍/mL ginseng saponin did not induce relaxation in coronary artery contraction induced by Ach (0.01 μM to 30 μM) in the presence of the endothelium, but did cause significant relaxation of coronary artery contractions by Ach (0.01 μM to 30 μM) in the absence of the endothelium. These findings indicate that ginseng saponin (>100 ㎍/mL) significantly inhibits porcine coronary artery contractions caused by K?, 5-HT, and Ach. Therefore, in this study, we demonstrated that ginseng saponin may show beneficial roles on abnormal coronary contraction.

As the result of the study to overcome the disadvantage of administration and therapy in medical fields, the most interesting field has been appeared in the polymers decomposed without having injurious effects on the human body. Poly DL-lactide, poly glycolide and poly (Dl-lactide-co-glycolide)(DL-PLGA) are suited for the medical treatment purpose. Generally the excessive dose of conventional drugs in the medical treatment has caused side effects in an human body as well as the disadvantage of ailments required of the frequent administrations. But the advent of drug delivery of a constant dose long. In this study, the release experiments of drug were operated in the phosphate buffer solutions of pH 7.4 and 37.0±0.5℃ by using micelles prepared in poly(DL-lactide??-co-glycolide??) with clonazepam for delivery drug. The lineary release time according to the kinds of micelles prepared with the copolymer/drug ratio of 20:40, 20:20, and 40:20 was delayed in the order of 20:40>20:20>40:20. Amount of drug release accoding to the kinds of micelles showed similar patterns. In short, the fomulation allows polymeric micelles to suppress the burst effect of the drug release mechanism, which led to the controlled release pattern and micelles.
Congenital Angiodysplasia in a Woman Presenting with Idiopathic Jejunal Varicosis on Angiography

Angiography is a useful diagnostic tool in cases with massive gastrointestinal bleeding such as angiodysplasia and varicosis when endoscopy is not available. Angiodysplasia and varicosis have distinguishable characteristic features on angiography, such as the presence of a nidus, visible late-draining veins, and the typical vascular tuft. We recently treated a rare case of congenital angiodysplasia without the characteristic angiodysplasia features on angiography. Instead, the patient presented with a very rare case of idiopathic jejunal varicosis. A 42-year-old woman visited the emergency room with the chief complaint of melena for three days and a hemoglobin level of 5.9 g/dL. An abdominal CT angiogram showed varicosis at the jejunal mesentery. Angiography of the superior and inferior mesenteric arteries showed tortuous and dilated jejunal and ileal branches during the venous phase, suggesting a vascular malformation such as varicosis of the jejunum. Surgical exploration with intraoperative endoscopy revealed diffuse engorged veins and a 1.0-cm-diameter superficial ulcer covered with a blood clot that was 70 cm from the ligament of Treitz. A 100-cm segment of jejunum was resected. Histological examination revealed that the lesion was angiodysplasia, not varicosis. The final diagnosis was congenital angiodysplasia. 시맨틱 웹과 MPEG-7 메타데이타를 이용한 비디오 검색 시스템

본 논문에서는 시맨틱 웹을 위한 마크업 언어인 RDF와 MPEG-7 표준을 따르는 XML 문서를 이용하여 구축된 비디오 검색 시스템에 대한 연구결과를 기술한다. 본 논문에서 제안된 시스템은 RDF를 통해 비디오 파일에 대한 정보를 웹 자원의 관점으로 정의/저장한다. 또한 비디오에 대한 내용기반 검색을 위해 비디오를 구성하는 중요 프레임들을 추출하여 그림 파일로 저장하는 한편 각 프레임에 대한 정보를 MPEG-7 표준에 따라 XML 형태로 저장한다. 이렇게 구축된 정보들을 바탕으로 비디오 검색 엔진은 사용자의 질의요청을 수행한다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 비디오 검색 시스템은 비디오에 대한 다양한 검색은 물론 비디오에 대한 내용기반 검색이 가능한 장점을 가진다.

Ginsenoside Rg₃ (Rg₃), one of the active ingredients in Panax ginseng, attenuates NMDA receptor-mediated currents in vitro and antagonizes NMDA receptors through a glycine modulatory site in rat cultured hippocampal neurons. In the present study, we examined the neuroprotective effects of Rg₃ on 24-hydroxycholesterol (24-OH-chol)-induced cytotoxicity in vitro. The results showed that Rg₃ treatment significantly and dose-dependently inhibited 24-OH-chol-induced cell death in rat cultured cort ical neurons, with an IC?? value of 28.7 ± 7.5 ㎛. Furthermore, the Rg₃ treatment not only significantly reduced DNA damage, but also dose-dependently attenuated 24-OH-chol-induced caspase-3 activity. To study the mechanisms underlying the in vitro neuroprotective effects of Rg₃ against 25-OH-chol-induced cytotoxicity, we also examined the effect of Rg₃ on intracellular Ca²? elevations in cultured neurons and found that Rg₃ treatment dose-dependently inhibited increases in intracellular Ca²?, with an IC?? value of 40.37 ± 12.88 ㎛. Additionally, Rg₃ treatment dose-dependently inhibited apoptosis with an IC?? of 47.3 ± 14.2 ㎛. Finally, after confirming the protective effect of Rg₃ using a terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end-labeling assay, we found that Rg₃ is an active component in ginseng-mediated neuroprotection. These results collectively indicate that Rg₃-induced neuroprotection against 24-OH-chol in rat cortical neurons might be achieved via inhibition of a 24-OH-chol-mediated Ca²? channel. This is the first report to employ cortical neurons to study the neuroprotective effects of Rg₃ against 24-OH-chol. In conclusion, Rg₃ was effective for protecting cells against 24-OH-chol-induced cytotoxicity in rat cortical neurons. This protective ability makes Rg₃ a promising agent in pathologies implicating neurodegeneration such as apoptosis or neuronal cell death.

Esophageal diverticulum is a disease that occurs mainly in adults. According to its location, it is named as pharyngoesophageal, paratracheal and epiphrenic diverticulum. Epiphrenic diverticulum is especially accompanied with esophageal leiomyoma sometimes. In this case. esophageal leiomyoma is combined with suhphrenic diverticulum. The authors present the case with review of literature. The diagnosis of subphrenic diverticulum was confirmed by esophagogastroscopy with biopsy, esophagogram and abdominal CT. Postoperative fin- dings showed it to be accompanied with esophageal leiomyoma.
