        Electrospinning Synthesis of ZIF-67/PAN Fibrous Membrane with High-capacity Adsorption for Malachite Green

        Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) exhibit great potential for dye adsorption. However, MOF powder is difficultto remove from aqueous solution, which hinders the practical application of MOFs. Integration of MOFs on polymericfibrous membrane provides a new strategy to reach the achievements that not only keep the adsorption ability of MOFs fordyes, but also easily remove the MOF/dye complex from water. Here, we successfully synthesize zeolitic imidazoleframework-67/polyacrylonitrile (ZIF-67/PAN) fibrous membrane with ZIF-67 loading ratio of 54 % by electrospinningmethod. The average diameters of ZIF-67 nanoparticles and ZIF-67/PAN fibers are about 200 nm and 0.72 μm, respectively. The adsorption process of MG on ZIF-67 nanoparticles or ZIF-67/PAN fibers followed a pseudo-second-order kinetic modeland fitted Langmuir isotherm. The maximum adsorption capacities of ZIF-67 nanoparticles and ZIF-67/PAN fibers are 2545and 1305 mg·g-1, respectively. After four regeneration cycles, the ZIF-67/PAN fibers membrane still exhibit over 92 % of theoriginal capacity of ZIF-67/PAN fibers. In addition, ZIF-67/PAN fibers also show good adsorption abilities for Congo red(849 mg·g-1) and Basic fuschin (730 mg·g-1). Therefore, ZIF-67/PAN fibers would be as a promising adsorbent for theremoval of dye in industrial application because of its simple preparation method, excellent adsorption property, ease ofseparation and favorable reusability.

        The cost-effectiveness of medication, laser trabeculoplasty, and trabeculectomy for treatment of open-angle glaucoma in South Korea

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P><B>Objectives:</B></P><P>Open-angle glaucoma (OAG) imposes high disease burden in South Korea. Although various effective interventions are available to manage the progression of OAG, there is limited data on the cost-effectiveness of these treatment strategies in South Korea.</P><P><B>Methods:</B></P><P>Using a Markov cohort model, we evaluated the cost-effectiveness of 3 major treatment strategies (medication, laser trabeculoplasty, and trabeculectomy) for South Korean patients with OAG. We projected a 25-year time horizon to study a hypothetical cohort of 10,000 patients of age 40 with mild OAG. The outcome measures were quality-adjusted life-years (QALYs) gained, cost from the societal perspective, and the incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) of medication, laser trabeculoplasty, and trabeculectomy. Interventions were evaluated at a willingness-to-pay (WTP) threshold of 30,000,000 KRW ($29,152) per QALY gained. Deterministic and probabilistic sensitivity analyses were conducted to address the model uncertainty.</P><P><B>Results:</B></P><P>The mean costs for medication, laser trabeculoplasty, and trabeculectomy were 29,661,740 KRW, 17,34,1342 KRW, and 22,275,438 KRW, respectively. The mean QALYs gained were 15.7, 15.3, and 14.8 for medication, laser trabeculoplasty, and trabeculectomy, respectively. Surgery was strongly dominated because it generated fewer expected QALYs but incurred greater expected cost than laser. The ICER was 30,885,179 KRW per QALY for medication versus laser trabeculoplasty. Laser was cost-effective, however, at a lower WTP threshold of 21,000,000 KRW per QALY gained or below. The results were most sensitive to the progression rates from mild to moderate glaucoma under laser treatment.</P><P><B>Conclusion:</B></P><P>Under the WTP threshold of 30,000,000 KRW per QALY, medication was cost-effective compared with laser trabeculoplasty and trabeculectomy for treating mild OAG in South Korean population. Laser, however, can be a cost-effective alternative in more resource-limited settings.</P>

      • 사각 노즐이 적용된 가변 추력용 측추력기의 유동특성에 관한 수치해석

        사각노즐을 갖는 측추력기의 유동 특성 분석과 성능 예측을 위해 3차원 수치해석을 수행하였다. RANS 기법을 이용하였으며 측추력기의 유량 조절 셔터가 회전하는 각도가 세 가지 경우에 대해 계산을 수행하였다. 셔터의 형상적인 특성으로 인한 내부의 재순환영역을 관찰하였고, 사각 노즐에서의 유동의 비대칭성을 확인하였다. 또한 셔터의 개폐 정도에 따라 노즐 내 유동의 비대칭성이 심화되어 추력이 편향되는 것을 관찰하였다. 셔터가 회전함에 따라 추력이 편향되는 정도와 추력 성능을 예측하고 이론적으로 계산한 추력 값과 비교하였다. To analyze flow characteristics and performance of the side jet thruster with 4 shutters and rectangular nozzles, a 3-D simulation has been implemented. Numerical calculations for three rotation anlgles of the shutter, have been conducted. Internal recirculation in a chamber and asymmetric flow structure in a nozzle were observed. In addition, the more shutter rotated, the more asymmetries of flow increased, and this phenomena resulted in thrust bias. The degrees of thrust bias and thrust performance with the rotation angles of the shutter were predicted and comparisons with theoretical thrust were made.

      • The role of peroxiredoxin V in (-)-epigallocatechin 3-gallate-induced multiple myeloma cell death.

        <P>(-)-Epigallocatechin 3-gallate (EGCG) is a potent antioxidant polyphenol in green tea that acts as an anticancer agent via both direct and indirect pathways. Although the relationship between EGCG's anticancer effects and its antioxidant activity is not fully understood, it is known that EGCG stimulates production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which induce oxidative stress leading to cell death. In IM9 multiple myeloma cells, EGCG acted in a dose- and time-dependent manner to induce apoptotic cell death. Among the antioxidant enzymes expressed in IM9 cells, levels of peroxiredoxin V (PrdxV) were selectively and significantly reduced by EGCG. Moreover, the ROS scavenger NAC completely inhibited EGCG-induced apoptosis and PrdxV reduction, while overexpression of PrdxV, but not a Prdx(VC48S) mutant, protected IM9 cells from EGCG-induced apoptosis. EGCG-induced reductions in cell viability and PrdxV levels were also observed in primary CD138+ multiple myeloma cells from patients. These results suggest that PrdxV is a key target via which EGCG mediates its anticancer effects.</P>

        Regulation of Noncoding Transcriptome in Developing Photoreceptors by Rod Differentiation Factor NRL

        <P><B>Purpose</B></P><P>Transcriptome analysis by next generation sequencing allows qualitative and quantitative profiling of expression patterns associated with development and disease. However, most transcribed sequences do not encode proteins, and little is known about the functional relevance of noncoding (nc) transcriptome in neuronal subtypes. The goal of this study was to perform a comprehensive analysis of long noncoding (lncRNAs) and antisense (asRNAs) RNAs expressed in mouse retinal photoreceptors.</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>Transcriptomic profiles were generated at six developmental time points from flow-sorted <I>Nrl</I>p-GFP (rods) and <I>Nrl</I>p-GFP;<I>Nrl</I><SUP>−/−</SUP> (S-cone like) mouse photoreceptors. Bioinformatic analysis was performed to identify novel noncoding transcripts and assess their regulation by rod differentiation factor neural retina leucine zipper (NRL). In situ hybridization (ISH) was used for validation and cellular localization.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>NcRNA profiles demonstrated dynamic yet specific expression signature and coexpression clusters during rod development. In addition to currently annotated 586 lncRNAs and 454 asRNAs, we identified 1037 lncRNAs and 243 asRNAs by de novo assembly. Of these, 119 lncRNAs showed altered expression in the absence of NRL and included NRL binding sites in their promoter/enhancer regions. ISH studies validated the expression of 24 lncRNAs (including 12 previously unannotated) and 4 asRNAs in photoreceptors. Coexpression analysis demonstrated 63 functional modules and 209 significant antisense-gene correlations, allowing us to predict possible role of these lncRNAs in rods.</P><P><B>Conclusions</B></P><P>Our studies reveal coregulation of coding and noncoding transcripts in rod photoreceptors by NRL and establish the framework for deciphering the function of ncRNAs during retinal development.</P>

        《方言類釋》中的“動靜類”詞彙研究

        “Bangeon yuseok”方言類釋,a dictionary-like book of Korean Era is a multilingual material classified dictionary including Chinese,Manchu,Mongolian and Japanese. This paper focuses on 108 words of “DongJing” Parts in “Bangeon yuseok”方言類釋. Firstly,according to certain classification criteria, 97 Korean words are classified and sorted out. Secondly, based on the literature of “Yuhae-Type”類解類, this paper makes a comparative analysis from two aspects: Chinese vocabulary of title words and Korean vocabulary of explanation words. Finally, it makes textual research on 11 words in Zhongzhou Xiangyu. As a novel material in the study of modern Chinese history, “Zhongzhou Xiangyu”中州鄉語 has unique research value in the field of lexicology and dialectology. Chinese dialect vocabulary, as the accumulation of historical language, provides abundant resources for lexicology research. A synchronic and diachronic study of dialect words in East Asian Chinese literature, with Chinese ancient books as circumstantial evidence, can be regarded as an innovative research method. Through deep excavation and utilization of ancient books resources, it can provide strong support for academic research. 《方言類釋》成書於正祖二年(1778),是由朝鮮朝司譯院徐命膺,洪命福等編纂的一部標記有漢語、朝鮮語、滿語、蒙古語、日本語的諺解與注解的多語種文獻。本文以《方言類釋》中的動靜類108個詞彙爲中心,基於一定的分類基準,對其中的97個朝鮮語詞匯進行分類整理;其次,基於“類解”類文獻,分別從標題語漢語詞彙和解釋詞朝鮮語詞匯兩個角度進行比較分析。最後,對“中州鄉語”11個詞彙進行考證。 “中州鄉語”部分,作為近代漢語史研究的新穎材料,其在詞彙學和方言學領域擁有獨特的研究價值。漢語方言詞匯,作為歷史語言的積澱,為詞彙學研究提供了豐富的資源。對於東亞漢籍文獻中的方言詞進行共時歷時研究,適當以中國古籍為旁證,可以被視為一種創新性的研究方法。通過深入挖掘和利用古籍資源,可以為學術研究提供有力的支撐。

        Overexpression of BdASR2 Plays a Positive Role in Response to Salt Tolerance in Brachypodium distachyon

        Adverse environmental stresses are known to affect plant growth and development, thus reducing crop productivity. Abscisic acid-, stress -, and ripening-induced (ASR) proteins play important roles in protecting plants from adverse environmental conditions. However, the biological functions of ASR proteins in Brachypodium remain unclear. We characterized the Brachypodium BdASR2 gene and concluded that it plays a positive role in salt stress tolerance. Overexpressing BdASR2 plants showed enhanced salt tolerance and decreased ion leakage and MDA content as compared to WT plants under salt stress conditions. Moreover, the roots were longer in overexpressing BdASR2 plants than WT plants under salt stress. The overexpression of BdASR2 increased antioxidant enzyme activity and upregulated the expression of stress-related genes under salt stress conditions. Taken together, these results indicate that BdASR2 plays important roles in salt stress responses by controlling ROS homeostasis and regulating the expression of stress-related genes.

        Determination of Fluoride Concentration in Antarctic Krill (Euphausia superba) using Dielectric Spectroscopy

        The concentration of fluoride in Antarctic krill (Euphausia superb) was investigated using a coaxial probe method based on dielectric properties in the 0.3–10 GHz frequency range. A quantitative relationship between the fluoride concentration in the aqueous solution and the dielectric loss at 0.3 GHz was also established with a regression coefficient over 0.98. The concentrations of fluoride in fresh and dried krill samples with different krill positions, such as shell and meat, were determined. The detected value agrees well with that determined using other methods, such as fluoride ion-selective electrode (ISE) and potassium permanganate titration (PPT). The fluoride concentrations in fresh krill were 0.0127, 0.0133, and 0.0152 mg/mL using dielectric spectroscopy, PPT, and ISE, respectively. These results show that the proposed dielectric loss technique is suitable and effective for determining fluoride content in Antarctic krill.
