It is the purpose of this study to investigate the possibility and mechanisms of complex formation for the removal of cyanide and toxic heavy metals from mining and electroplating industrial wastewater simultaneously. The adsorption forms of heavy metals from a synthesized wastecyanide water by activated carbon is discussed. Under the cyanide complexiation, mercury ion is adsorbed in the formation of complex anion as ?? and Hg(CN)₃, but zinc and cadmium are also as ?? and ?/?. The effects are established under the presence of ?? in the concentration range ?? mol/ℓto ?? mol/ℓand the presence of heavy metals.

The purpose of this study was to identify optimum fertilization technology for Neolitsea sericea and Cinnamomum yabunikkei, which are major species of broad-leaved afforestation trees. Depending on the treatment of water soluble fertilizers (N:P:K = 19:19:19, v/v/v), changes in root collar diameter, plant height, dry weight, and seedling quality index were measured as growth characteristics and changes in photochemical efficienty and chlorophyll content as physiological characteristics. After analyzing growth characteristics the highest root diameter and plant height growth were observed in 1.5 gL concentration in the case of N. sericea, and 1.0 g・L-1 in the case of C. yabunikkei. The H/D ratios in these fertilizer concentrations showed 7.0 cm・mm-1 for N. sericea and 9.3 cm・mm-1 for C. yabunikkei, which were significantly higher than any other concentrations. N. sericea and C. yabunikkei had high total dry weight, 5.92 g in the 1.5 g・L-1 treated area, and 6.01 g in the 1.0 g・L-1 treated area, respectively. The T/R ratio and seedling quality index were also significantly higher in the fertilization treatment area of high dry weight. As a result of analysis of physiological characteristics the photochemical efficiency and chlorophyll content were lower than those of healthy leaves in both species, with high values of 1.5 g・L-1 in the case of N. sericea, and 1.0 g・L-1 in the case of C. yabunikkei. According to the overall results of this study, the optimum fertilization level varies depending on the nutritional needs of respective species, and the fertilizer application rates of water soluble fertilizer suitable for the production of 2-year-old containerized seedling of N. sericea and C. yabunikkei were 1.5 g・L-1 and 1.0 g・L-1, respectively. However, it is difficult to predict the adaptation characteristics of the trees to long-term changes when using fertilizers, because this study is the analysis of the short term responses from 2 year old young seedlings. In addition, they are cultivated in greenhouses or nursery field; in this case, it is believed to be necessary to study the response of trees to rapid changes of future climate. Additionally, since the response to fertilizer concentration varies greatly depending on the tree species, it is necessary to continuously study major tree species in Korea and other species that are sensitive to climate changes.
한국 남부지역 가로수종 잎 미세구조와 미세먼지 흡착량의 계절 변화: 가시나무, 종가시나무, 참가시나무, 동백나무, 왕벚나무 중심으로

본 연구는 한국 남부지역의 주요 조경수 가시나무(Quercus myrsinifolia), 종가시나무(Quercus glauca), 참가시나무(Quercus salicina), 동백나무(Camellia japonica), 왕벚나무(Prunus x yedoensis) 등 5수종을 대상으로 계절별 미세먼지 흡착량 및 수종별 잎 표면 미세구조와의 관계를 연구하였다. 계절별 미세먼지 흡착량 범위는 1월(31.51~110.44 ㎍/㎠), 11월(23.20~79.30 ㎍/㎠), 5월(22.68~76.90 ㎍/㎠), 8월(9.88~49.91 ㎍/㎠) 순으로, 8월보다 1월에 54.4% 더 높은 미세먼지 흡착량을 보였다. 잎 표면에 홈이 있고 털을 갖고 있으며, 왁스층 함량이 높은 Q. salicina는 미세먼지 입자 크기별 흡착량이 높게 유지되었으며, 광택이 있고 잎 표면이 매끄러우며, 왁스층 함량이 낮은 C. japonica와 Prunus x yedoensis는 계절별 미세먼지 흡착량이 낮았다. 엽면적 크기, 기공밀도 및 기공 길이의 증가는 PM 흡착량의 감소와 관련이 있고 반면, 잎 표피 거칠기, 왁스층 함량, 기공 폭의 증가는 PM 흡착량의 증가와 관련이 있었다. 또한, 잎 표면 왁스층 함량이 증가할수록 잎 표면 PM 흡착량도 증가하였으며, PM<sub>10</sub>, PM<sub>2.5</sub> 보다는 PM<sub>0.2</sub>와 관련이 높은 것으로 확인되었다. 또한, 앞으로 개별 수종에 대한 미세먼지 저감 효율을 정량적으로 판단할 수 있는 기준을 통한 저감 수종 선발과 더불어 미세먼지 저감을 위한 숲조성 가이드라인 또한 제시되어야 할 것으로 판단된다. The study investigates the correlation between the seasonal changes in the absorption of fine dusts and the fine structure of surface on each type of street tree, such as Quercus myrsinifolia, Quercus glauca, Quercus salicina, Camellia japonica, and Prunus x yedoensis in the southernareas of Korea. The absorption ranges of fine dust were 31.51~110.44 ㎍/㎠ in January, 23.20~79.30 ㎍/㎠ in November, 22.68~76.90 ㎍/㎠ in May, and 9.88~49.91 ㎍/㎠ in August. The absorption value was about 54.4% higher in January than in May. With the grooves and hairs on the leaf surface and lots of wax, Q. salicina seems related to the high absorption rate of fine dust for each fine dust particle size. The one with gloss and smooth leaf surface has a low amount of wax. C. japonica Prunus x yedoensisshowed a low absorption rate of fine dust in each season. Whereas the increase in porosity density, length, and leaf area size can be related to the reduced PM and increasedabsorption rate, the leaf surface roughness, total wax amount, and porosity width can be related to the increase in the PM absorption rate. There was also a high correlation between the total wax amount and absorption rate of the leaf surface at the size of PM<sub>0.2</sub> than PM<sub>10</sub> and PM<sub>2.5</sub>. These results imply that the quantitative and qualitative trais of leaf, such as wax amounts and leaf surface,can increase the absorption of fine dusts, and the small-sized particles seem to be highly adsorbed with the high wax amounts.

<B>ABSTRACT</B><B>Background:</B><P>Decreased hemoglobin levels increase the risk of developing dementia among the elderly. However, the underlying mechanisms that link decreased hemoglobin levels to incident dementia still remain unclear, possibly due to the fact that few studies have reported on the relationship between low hemoglobin levels and neuroimaging markers. We, therefore, investigated the relationships between decreased hemoglobin levels, cerebral small-vessel disease (CSVD), and cortical atrophy in cognitively healthy women and men.</P><B>Methods:</B><P>Cognitively normal women (<I>n</I> = 1,022) and men (<I>n</I> = 1,018) who underwent medical check-ups and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) were enrolled at a health promotion center. We measured hemoglobin levels, white matter hyperintensities (WMH) scales, lacunes, and microbleeds. Cortical thickness was automatically measured using surface based methods. Multivariate regression analyses were performed after controlling for possible confounders.</P><B>Results:</B><P>Decreased hemoglobin levels were not associated with the presence of WMH, lacunes, or microbleeds in women and men. Among women, decreased hemoglobin levels were associated with decreased cortical thickness in the frontal (Estimates, 95% confidence interval, −0.007, (−0.013, −0.001)), temporal (−0.010, (−0.018, −0.002)), parietal (−0.009, (−0.015, −0.003)), and occipital regions (−0.011, (−0.019, −0.003)). Among men, however, no associations were observed between hemoglobin levels and cortical thickness.</P><B>Conclusion:</B><P>Our findings suggested that decreased hemoglobin levels affected cortical atrophy, but not increased CSVD, among women, although the association is modest. Given the paucity of modifiable risk factors for age-related cognitive decline, our results have important public health implications.</P>

Interleukin-4 (IL-4) and IL-13 are cytokines secreted by immune cells. Cytokines induce the proliferation of macrophages or promote the differentiation of secretory cells. The initiation and progression of allergic inflammatory diseases, such as asthma, are dependent on cytokines acting through related receptor complexes. IL-4 and IL-13 are N-glycoproteins. Glycan structures in glycoproteins play important roles in protein folding, protein stability, enzymatic function, inflammation, and cancer development. Therefore, the glycan structure of IL-4 and IL-13 needs to be elucidated in detail for the development of effective therapies. We report the first attempt to characterize the site-specific N-glycosylation of recombinant IL-4 and IL-13 via liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) analysis. The tandem mass spectra of intact N-glycopeptides were identified using the Integrated GlycoProteome Analyzer (I-GPA) platform, which can automatically and rapidly analyze multiple N-glycopeptides, including their glycan composition and amino acid sequences. The recombinant IL-4 and IL-13 were identified with amino acid sequence coverages of 84% and 96%, respectively. For IL-4, 52 glycoforms on one N-glycosylation site were identified and quantified. In IL-13, 232 N-glycopeptides from three N-glycosylation sites were characterized, with the site Asn52 being the most extensively glycosylated (~80%). The complex glycans were the most abundant glycan on IL-4 and IL-13 (~96% and 91%, respectively), and the biantennary glycans were the most abundant in both recombinant IL-4 and IL-13 proteins.

The purpose of this monitoring is to survey the geographical distribution of tick species using dry ice bait traps and flagging methods at each ten provinces (GangwonⅠ,GangwonⅡ, Gyeonggi, Chungbuk, Chungnam, Gyeongbuk, Gyeongnam, Jeonbuk, Jeonnam and Jeju area) and one Metropolitan area in the Republic of Korea for eight months from April through November, 2016. A total of 65,339 ixodid ticks (8,200 females, 1,988 males, 31,453 nymphs and 23,698 larvae) was collected, belonging to three genera (Haemaphysalis, Ixodes and Amblyomma). Haemaphysalis longicornis was the most commonly collected species, which is represented for 96.88% of all the collected ticks and followed by H. flava (2.69%), I. nipponensis (0.35%), A. testudinarium (0.05%) and H. japonica (0.03%) in the Republic of Korea for the study period. Haemaphysalis longicornis was a dominant species observed in these eleven areas.
