Topic extraction is a technology that automatically extracts a set of topics from a set of documents, and this has been a major research topic in the area of natural language processing. Representative topic extraction methods include Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) and word clustering-based methods. However, there are problems with these methods, such as repeated topics and mixed topics. The problem of repeated topics is one in which a specific topic is extracted as several topics, while the problem of mixed topic is one in which several topics are mixed in a single extracted topic. To solve these problems, this study proposes a method to extract topics using an LDA that is robust against the problem of repeated topic, going through the steps of separating and merging the topics using the similarity between words to correct the extracted topics. As a result of the experiment, the proposed method showed better performance than the conventional LDA method.
TGF-β downregulation-induced cancer cell death is finely regulated by the SAPK signaling cascade

<▼1><P>Transforming growth factor (TGF)-β signaling is increasingly recognized as a key driver in cancer. In progressive cancer tissues, TGF-β promotes tumor formation, and its increased expression often correlates with cancer malignancy. In this study, we utilized adenoviruses expressing short hairpin RNAs against TGF-β1 and TGF-β2 to investigate the role of TGF-β downregulation in cancer cell death. We found that the downregulation of TGF-β increased the phosphorylation of several SAPKs, such as p38 and JNK. Moreover, reactive oxygen species (ROS) production was also increased by TGF-β downregulation, which triggered Akt inactivation and NOX4 increase-derived ROS in a cancer cell-type-specific manner. We also revealed the possibility of substantial gene fluctuation in response to TGF-β downregulation related to SAPKs. The expression levels of Trx and GSTM1, which encode inhibitory proteins that bind to ASK1, were reduced, likely a result of the altered translocation of Smad complex proteins rather than from ROS production. Instead, both ROS and ROS-mediated ER stress were responsible for the decrease in interactions between ASK1 and Trx or GSTM1. Through these pathways, ASK1 was activated and induced cytotoxic tumor cell death via p38/JNK activation and (or) induction of ER stress.</P></▼1><▼2><P><B>Cancer: Tipping the signaling balance</B></P><P>Reducing the levels of the multifunctional protein transforming growth factor (TGF)-β in cancer cells prevents tumor growth in mice. Previous studies have shown that high levels of TGF-β in cancerous tissue are associated with accelerated disease progression. Hye Jin Choi and Jae J Song at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, and colleagues infected cancer cells with genetically modified viruses that reduced the expression of the gene encoding TGF-β. The resulting decrease in TGF-β protein led to cell death by stimulating the production of reactive oxygen species and signaling through the apoptosis signal-regulating kinase 1 (ASK1) pathway. When tumor-bearing mice were infected with these modified viruses, their overall survival was improved. Further understanding the mechanisms through which TGF-β regulates cancer cell survival will contribute to the development of new approaches in cancer treatment.</P></▼2>

현재 사용하고 있는 IPv4 주소 체계는 IP주소가 부족함에도 불구하고 서브넷팅 설계 시에 고정길이의 서브넷 마스크 사용으로 IP주소를 많이 낭비하고 있다. 이를 보완하는 한 방안으로 VLSM을 사용한다. 그러나 이 방법은 가변길이 서브넷 마스크 및 주소의 관리가 쉽지 않다. 본 연구는 VLSM기반에서 쉽고 효율적인 서브넷팅 IP주소 계산법 및 관리기법을 제안한다. 그리고, 제안하는 관리기법에 의해 웹 기반으로 서브넷 할당 및 관리 시스템을 실험적으로 설계하고 구현한다. One of the problems of the currently used IPv4 addressing-structure is the fact that there is a shortage of IP addresses and many addresses are being wasted, especially on sub-netting design. The variable subnet masking is a resolution to reduce IP address wasting. We propose an effective subnet W address calculation and management method on VLSM. Also, with the proposed subnet IP address management method, a web based subnet allocation and management system is introduced.
