Leaf-color mutants are ideal genetic materials for understanding the mechanism of chloroplast development and chlorophyll (Chl) biosynthesis. Here we isolated and identified a new leaf-color mutant of rice, named white-stripe leaf3 (wsl3), from a 60Co-irradiated mutant pool. The wsl3 mutant displayed a visible white-stripe leaf in both young seedlings and flag leaves of mature plant. Chl content in homozygous wsl3 mutant was approximately 47% of that in the wild type. Besides, chloroplast development in the mutant was severely arrested. By a map-based cloning strategy, the wsl3 gene was finely confined to a 50.8 kb region on chromosome 1. Moreover, a 9-bp deletion was identified in the genomic region of LOC_Os01g01920, which encodes an HD (histidine and aspartic acid) domaincontaining protein. Genetic complementation confirmed that LOC_Os01g01920 could recover the lesion of wsl3 mutation. Real-time PCR analyses showed that the expression levels of WSL3 were the highest in young and flag leaves among various tissues, and most of the genes associated with Chl biosynthesis were significantly down-regulated in the wsl3 mutant. Meanwhile, in contrast to many nuclear gene-encoded phage-type RNA polymerase(s) (NEP) transcribed genes were up-regulated, most of plastid-encoded bacterialtype RNA polymerase (PEP) transcribed genes were downregulated. These results demonstrated that the WSL3 gene, as an HD domain-containing protein, is involved in chl biosynthesis and chloroplast development in rice.

Gearbox compound fault pattern recognition is challenging because of its complexity and non-stationarity of the vibration signal. In this study is proposed a novel hybrid method based on narrow band interference canceller (NIC), multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis (MFDFA) and support vector machine optimized by whale optimization algorithm (WOASVM) for compound fault pattern recognition of gearbox. Specifically, the raw signal is processed by NIC to filter the deterministic signal which interferes with the fault signal, and then the multifractal features are extracted from the residual signal via MFDFA. Finally, the compound fault pattern is identified via WOASVM. Compound fault experiments of a gearbox under fixed condition and variable condition were done to evaluate the performance of the proposed method. The results show that the proposed method can effectively identify the compound faults and it outperforms other methods mentioned in this paper.

To evaluate the effects of supplemental zinc on growth performance,gut morphometry, and the cecal microbial communityin broilers challenged with Salmonella typhimurium,180, 1-day-old male Cobb 500 broiler chicks were randomlyassigned to 3 treatments with ten replicates for a 42 day experiment. The 3 treatments were: unchallenged, S. typhimurium-challenged, and S. typhimurium-challenged with 120mg/kg of zinc supplementation in the diet. Salmonella infectioncaused a reduction in body-weight gain and feed intake,disrupted the intestinal structure by decreasing thevillus-height/crypt-depth ratio of the ileum and increasingthe apoptotic index of ileal epithelial cells. Moreover, thececal microbial community was altered by Salmonella infection,as demonstrated by a reduced number of Lactobacillusand total bacteria. Dietary zinc supplementation improvedgrowth performance by increasing the body-weight gainand feed intake in the challenged broilers. In addition, zincrepaired intestinal injury by reducing the apoptotic index ofileal epithelial cells, enhancing villus height and the villusheight/crypt-depth ratio of the ileum, and the proliferationindex of ileal epithelial cells. Finally, zinc regulated the cecalmicrobial community by increasing the number of total bacteriaand beneficial Lactobacillus bacteria, and reducing thenumber of Salmonella. The results indicated that dietaryzinc supplementation improved growth performance, intestinalmorphology, and intestinal microbiota in S. typhimurium-challenged broilers.
Performance of fluidized bed electrode in a molten carbonate fuel cell anode

A fluidized bed electrode could lower concentration polarization and activation polarization because of its high mass and heat transfer coefficient. The polarization characteristics of the fluidized bed electrode are systematically investigated in a molten carbonate fuel cell anode with an O_2/CO_2/gold reference electrode. The results show that polarization performance of the anode is improved by selecting proper flow rates of H_2, O_2 and CO_2, choosing suitable nickel particle content together with appropriate O_2/CO_2 ratio, and increasing reaction temperature as well as the area of the current collector. Limiting current density of 115.56 mA·cm^(−2) is achieved under optimum performance as follows:a cylindrically curved nickel plate current collector, nickel particle content of 7.89%, the reaction temperature of 923 K,H_2 flow rate of 275 mL·min^(−1), O_2/CO_2 flow rate of 10/20 mL·min−1 and O_2/CO_2 ratio of 1 : 2.
Dynamic QTL Analysis of Rice Protein Content and Protein Index Using Recombinant Inbred Lines

Protein content (PC) and protein index (PI) play important roles in determining nutritional quality in rice (Oryza sativa L.). We used 71 lines derived from “Asominori/IR24” to analyze the developmental behavior of PC and PI through unconditional and conditional QTL mapping methods. In all, 10 unconditional QTLs and 6conditional QTLs for PC, and 11 unconditional QTLs and 9conditional QTLs for PI, were identified at four stages of grain filling. More were identified in the first three stages than at the final stage. Temporal patterns of gene expression for PC and PI differed over time, with several QTLs being expressed across two or three stages but many being expressed at only one stage. Some of these QTLs were closely linked with maturity QTLs reported previously. Many QTLs for PC and PI were co-localized, supporting the significant correlation found between PC and PI. Our results suggest that dynamic QTL mapping might be a valid means for revealing more genetic information about protein accumulations during seed development.
