<P>A <I>PACLOBUTRAZOL-RESISTANCE</I> (<I>PRE</I>) gene family, consisting of six genes in <I>Arabidopsis thaliana</I>, encodes a group of helix-loop-helix proteins that act in the growth-promoting transcriptional network. To delineate the specific role of each of the <I>PRE</I> genes in organ growth, we took a reverse genetic approach by constructing high order <I>pre</I> loss-of-function mutants of <I>Arabidopsis thaliana</I>. In addition to dwarf vegetative growth, some double or high order <I>pre</I> mutants exhibited defective floral development, resulting in reduced fertility. While <I>pre2pre5</I> is normally fertile, both <I>pre2pre6</I> and <I>pre5pre6</I> showed reduced fertility. Further, the reduced fertility was exacerbated in the <I>pre2pre5pre6</I> mutant, indicative of the redundant and critical roles of these PREs. Self-pollination assay and scanning electron microscopy analysis showed that the sterility of <I>pre2pre5pre6</I> was mainly ascribed to the reduced cell elongation of anther filament, limiting access of pollens to stigma. We found that the expression of a subset of flower-development related genes including <I>ARGOS</I>, <I>IAA19</I>, <I>ACS8,</I> and <I>MYB24</I> was downregulated in the <I>pre2pre5pre6</I> flowers. Given these results, we propose that PREs, with unequal functional redundancy, take part in the coordinated growth of floral organs, contributing to successful autogamous reproduction in <I>Arabidopsis thaliana.</I></P>
Cemento-osseous dysplasia: clinical presentation and symptoms

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate risk factors and symptoms in cemento-osseous dysplasia (COD) patients. Materials and Methods: In this study, 62 patients who were diagnosed histologically with COD were investigated from 2010 to 2020 at the author’s institution. We compared clinical and radiological characteristics of symptomatic and asymptomatic patients. The factors were sex, age, lesion size, site, radiologic stage of lesion, apical involvement, sign of infection, and history of tooth extraction. Statistical analysis was performed using Fisher’s exact test and the chi-square test. Results: COD was more prevalent in female patients. With the exception of three cases, all were focal COD. The majority of patients presented with symptoms when the lesion was smaller than 1.5 cm in size. Symptoms were observed when the apex of the tooth was included in the lesion or there was a local infection around the lesion. The history of tooth extraction and previous endodontic treatment were evaluated, and history was not a signifi-cant predictor for the onset of symptoms. Conclusion: In this study, risk factors associated with symptomatic patients were size of lesion, apical involvement, and local infection.

<▼1><P>A missense mutation of <I>KARRIKIN-INSENSITIVE2</I>, <I>KAI2</I><SUP><I>ply2</I></SUP>, compromises its ligand-binding activity, which subsequently impairs KAI2-signaling and multiple aspects of light-dependent responses.</P></▼1><▼2><P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>A smoke-derived compound, karrikin (KAR), and an endogenous but as yet unidentified KARRIKIN INSENSITIVE2 (KAI2) ligand (KL) have been identified as chemical cues in higher plants that impact on multiple aspects of growth and development. Genetic screening of light-signaling mutants in <I>Arabidopsis thaliana</I> has identified a mutant designated as <I>ply2</I> (<I>pleiotropic long hypocotyl2</I>) that has pleiotropic light-response defects. In this study, we used positional cloning to identify the molecular lesion of <I>ply2</I> as a missense mutation of <I>KAI2</I>/<I>HYPOSENSITIVE TO LIGHT</I>, which causes a single amino acid substitution, Ala219Val. Physiological analysis and genetic epistasis analysis with the KL-signaling components <I>MORE AXILLARY GROWTH2</I> (<I>MAX2</I>) and <I>SUPPRESSOR OF MAX2 1</I> suggested that the pleiotropic phenotypes of the <I>ply2</I> mutant can be ascribed to a defect in KL-signaling. Molecular and biochemical analyses revealed that the mutant KAI2<SUP>ply2</SUP> protein is impaired in its ligand-binding activity. In support of this conclusion, X-ray crystallography studies suggested that the <I>KAI2</I><SUP><I>ply2</I></SUP> mutation not only results in a narrowed entrance gate for the ligand but also alters the structural flexibility of the helical lid domains. We discuss the structural implications of the Ala219 residue with regard to ligand-specific binding and signaling of KAI2, together with potential functions of KL-signaling in the context of the light-regulatory network in <I>Arabidopsis thaliana</I>.</P></▼2>
네트워크 기반 시스템 명세 및 검증을 위한 Z 프레임워크

정형명세 언어인 Z는 상태기반의 명세언어로써 시스템의 기능성을 명세 및 검증하는데 사용되고 있다. Z를 사용하여 시스템 명세 시 Z에서 제공하는 스키마를 이용하여 복잡한 구조의 상태를 나타내기에 용이하다. 하지만 Z에서 커버하는 명세 대상이 단일 시스템이기 때문에 2개 이상의 시스템으로 구성된 네트워크 상의 통신을 나타내기가 힘든 단점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 Z를 이용하여 네트워크 환경의 시스템들의 기능 및 통신을 명세하기 위한 프레임워크를 제시하고 사례연구를 통해 Z를 통해 시스템의 기능성 및 통신을 모두 명세하여 프레임워크의 적용가능성을 살펴본다. 또한 두 가지 측면을 모두 포함하는 검증 속성을 나타냄으로써 네트워크 환경 시스템의 속성을 프레임워크를 통해 명세, 검증 가능함을 보인다. Formal specification language Z is a statebased language and used for specifying and verifying system functionalities. By using Z for specifying system, developer can easily describe a complex state through a schema in Z but, the communication in network including more than two systems is not possible to be specified. In this paper, we propose the Z framework for representing communication and functionality of systems in a networked environment and show applicability of the framework by specifying both communication and functionality of safety-critical real system, hydrogen monitoring system. The many properties which system must hold have functionality and communication simultaneously so in case study, we describe verification property including two aspects and show possibility of specifying and verifying properties in networked environment using framework.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical and radiographic characteristics of idiopathic bone cavity (IBC) to determine the effect of surgical intervention on the process of healing. Materials and Methods: All cases diagnosed with IBC during the period of 2011 to 2020 at our Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery were searched. Ninety cases were retrieved. The features evaluated were sex, age, contour of the lesion, number of teeth involved, site, history of trauma, and postoperative healing pattern. The significance of differences was assessed by Mann-Whitney U test and chi-square test. Results: The female:male ratio showed no predilection toward either sex (0.9:0.8). The mean age of the collected sample was 22.05±14.38 years, and the age ranged from 10 to 58 years. All cases presented in the mandible and showed well-circumscribed radiolucency. Margins were either scalloped or round in shape, and the size varied from one tooth to six teeth involvement. Seventy cases involved three or fewer roots. Three cases showed bilateral lesion. Four cases had a history of trauma at the area of the lesion. Fifty-one cases were followed for six months after surgery, and all showed increased bone density at the lesion. Conclusion: There is no definitive radiological or clinical feature of IBC. Considering the diversity of clinical and radiological features, such a diagnosis relies primarily on surgical findings of an empty bone cavity with no epithelial lining. Our data suggest that surgical intervention be the first choice of treatment as opposed to observation.
Role of HCl in Atomic Layer Deposition of TiO2 Thin Films from Titanium Tetrachloride and Water

Atomic layer deposition (ALD) of TiO2 thin film from TiCl4 and H2O has been intensively studied since the invention of ALD method to grow thin films via chemical adsorptions of two precursors. However the role of HCl which is a gaseous byproduct in ALD chemistry for TiO2 growth is still intriguing in terms of the growth mechanism. In order to investigate the role of HCl in TiO2 ALD, HCl pulse and its purging steps are inserted in a typical sequence of TiCl4 pulse-purge-H2O pulse-purge. When they are inserted after the first-half reaction (chemisorption of TiCl4), the grown thickness of TiO2 becomes thinner or thicker at lower or higher growth temperatures than 300 oC, respectively. However the insertion after the second-half reaction (chemisorption of H2O) results in severely reduced thicknesses in all growth temperatures. By using the result, we explain the growth mechanism and the role of HCl in TiO2 ALD.

Purpose: This study investigated childhood cancer survivors' behavior related to a healthy lifestyle during their survival period by comparing reports between childhood cancer survivors and their parents. Methods: In this comparative descriptive study, a survey was conducted with a 33-item questionnaire and one open-ended question about areas for improvement. The participants comprised 69 childhood cancer survivors and 69 of their parents, for a total of 138. Results: The total mean healthy lifestyle score, on a 4-point Likert scale, reported by childhood cancer survivors was 2.97, while that reported by their parents was 3.03. No significant differences in children's healthy lifestyles were found between childhood cancer survivors' and their parents' reports (t=0.86, p=.390). For the open-ended question, the main keywords based on the results of degree and eigenvector centrality were "exercise", "unbalanced diet", and "food". These keywords were present in both the children's and parents' responses. Conclusion: Obtaining information on childhood cancer survivors' healthy lifestyles based on reports from themselves and their parents provides meaningful insights into the improvement of health care management. The results of this study may be used to develop and plan healthy lifestyle standards to meet childhood cancer survivors' needs.
