Pristine and 4.35 V charged-state particles of the Li1.0Ni0.88Co0.08Mn0.04O₂ lithium–ion battery (LIB) cathode material were cross-sectioned by the focused-ion-beam method to allow the acquisition of spatially resolved Ni L₃-edge, Co L₃-edge, Mn L₃-edge, and O K-edge X-ray absorption spectra by scanning transmission X-ray microscopy with a spatial resolution of ~30 ㎚. The Co L₃-edge and the Mn L₃-edge spectra, respectively, displayed almost the same features throughout the particles for both the pristine-state and charged-state samples. The average oxidation states of the Co and Mn ions were estimated to be ~3+ and ~4+, respectively. The Ni L₃-edge and O K-edge spectra included different features, depending on the charge state and intra-particle location. The estimated average oxidation state of the Ni ions ranged from ~2.7+ to ~3.0+ for the pristine-state sample (space-averaged value: ~2.9+) and from ~2.7+ to ~3.5+ for the charged-state sample (space-averaged value: ~3.3+). A correlation was observed between the changes in the features of the O K-edge and Ni L₃-edge. These results would provide important implications for the development of high-performance LIBs.

<P>New functionalized CuO hollow nanospheres on acetylene black (CuO/AB) and on charcoal (CuO/C) have been found to be effective catalysts for C-S bond formation under microwave irradiation. CuO catalysts showed high catalytic activity with a wide variety of substituents which include electron-rich and electron-poor aryl iodides with thiophenols by the addition of two equivalents of K<SUB>2</SUB>CO<SUB>3</SUB> as base in the absence of ligands.</P>
캐리어 수명시간과 온도에 따른 수직형 절연 게이트 바이폴러 트랜지스터의 Forward Biased Safe Operating Area를 위한 설계 및 시뮬레이션

The forward biased safe operating area of insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) is important for stable and reliable operations. A parasitic thyristor latch-up has limited the on-state operation of the devices. In this manuscript, we reported the forward biased safe operating area of the vertical punch through IGBTs with various N buffer layers, carrier lifetimes, and temperatures. Increasing the thickness and doping concentration of the N buffer layer decreased the forward current and improved the forward biased safe operating area. The low forward current suppressed a parasitic thyristor latch-up. Reducing the carrier lifetime increased the forward bias safe operating area due to the enhanced recombination in the N buffer layer. At the high temperature, two conflicting mechanisms of the forward bias safe operating area were found. As the temperature rised, the forward bias safe operating area increased due to the channel scattering and forward current reduction. The forward biased safe operating area rather decreased at the high temperature because the parasitic thyristor easily triggered at the low collector voltage.

<P>The positional distribution pattern of fatty acids (FAs) in the triacylglycerols (TAGs) affects intestinal absorption of these FAs. The aim of this study was to compare lymphatic absorption of pinolenic acid (PLA) present in structured pinolenic TAG (SPT) where PLA was evenly distributed on the glycerol backbone, with absorption of pine nut oil (PNO) where PLA was predominantly positioned at the sn-3 position. SPT was prepared via the nonspecific lipase-catalyzed esterification of glycerol with free FA obtained from PNO. Lymphatic absorption of PLA from PNO and from SPT was compared in a rat model of lymphatic cannulation. Significantly (P < 0.05) greater amounts of PLA were detected in lymph collected for 8 h from an emulsion containing SPT (28.5 +/- 0.7% dose) than from an emulsion containing PNO (26.2 +/- 0.6% dose), thereby indicating that PLA present in SPT has a greater capacity for lymphatic absorption than PLA from PNO.</P>
