<P>We report a simulation result in which we obtained a faster falling time of the fringe-field-switching negative dielectric anisotropy liquid crystal (n-FFS) by segregating the subpixel area with vertical walls. By inserting walls near both edges of the interdigitated electrodes, the transmittance (TR) between the walls was increased by a large twist angle of the liquid crystal. The falling time of the n-FFS with 12 walls was 10.5 ms, about 50% less than the n-FFS without a wall (21.3 ms). The maximum TR (TR(max)) of the proposed n-FFS was 26.1%, which was slightly smaller than the TR(max) of the n-FFS without walls (27.8%) but still larger than the FFS with a positive dielectric anisotropy liquid crystal (p-FFS).</P>
Isolation of 151 Mutants that Have Developmental Defects from T-DNA Tagging

<P>In order to understand the mechanisms underlying plant development, a necessary first step involves the elucidation of the functions of the genes, via the analysis of mutants that exhibit developmental defects. In this study, an activation tagging mutant library harboring 80,650 independent <I>Arabidopsis</I> transformants was generated in order to screen for developmental mutants. A total of 129 mutants manifesting dominant developmental abnormalities were isolated, and their T-DNA insertion loci were mapped. The activation of one or more genes adjacent to a T-DNA insertion locus was confirmed in eight dominant mutants. A gene adjacent to the right border was usually activated by the 35S enhancers. Interestingly, the transcriptional activation of multiple genes within a broad range was observed in one of the mutants, which raises the possibility that activation by the 35S enhancers was not limited strictly to a single gene. In order to gain a better understanding of sexual reproduction in higher plants, we isolated 22 mutants exhibiting defects in female gametophyte development, and determined their T-DNA insertion loci. We propose that this mutant population may prove useful in the further determination of the functions of genes that play important roles in plant development.</P>

세계 주요국가들은 선점식 해양이용에 따른 문제에 대응하기 위해 해양공간계획(Marine Spatial Planning)을 도입하였고, 국내에서도 이에 발맞춰 효율적인 해양공간관리를 위해 해양공간계획 및 관리에 관한 법률을 제정하여 2019년부터 시행하고 있다. 따라서 현행 해양공간계획 수립 이후 해양공간 통합관리 체제에 대한 가시적 분석이 필요하지만 효과적인 해양공간관리(Marine Spatial Management)와 성과평가가 가능한 해양공간 관리지표는 부족한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 해양공간관리 효율성·접근성을 증진시키고 실수요 기반의 해양정책을 지속적으로 지원할 수 있는 관리지표를 제안하였다. 이를 위해 해양수산정보를 최대한 수집하여 8개 분야로 재분류하고 해양수산부 최신 정책추진 방향을 분석하여 해양공간관리에 대한 5개 비전을 도출하였다. 관리지표는 해양공간관리 비전별로 구분하여 해양수산정보 2개 이상을 융합한 변수/결과형으로 개발하였다. 본 연구결과는 효율적 해양공간관리를 위한 객관적이고 과학적인 근거자료를 구축하는데 활용하고자 한다. Major countries around the world have implemented marine spatial planning to cope with problems caused by preemptive use of the ocean, and in line with this, laws on marine spatial planning and management have been enacted and implemented since 2019. Therefore, a visible analysis of the integrated marine spatial management system is needed after the current marine spatial planning was established, but marine spatial management indicators for effective marine spatial management and performance evaluation are insufficient. In this study, management indicators were proposed that can improve the efficiency and accessibility of marine spatial management and continuously actual demand-based marine policies. To this end, marine and fishery information was collected as much as possible, reclassified into 8 fields, and 5 visions for marine spatial management were derived by analyzing the latest policy direction of the Ministry of ocean and Fisheries. Management indicators were classified by marine spatial management vision and developed in a variable/result type in which two or more marine and fishery information were fused. The result of this study are intended to be used to build objective and scientific evidence for efficient marine spatial management.

<P>We report a method of broadening the reflection bandwidth of polymer-stabilized cholesteric liquid crystal (PSCLC). The top substrate was consecutively coated with a polyimide (PI) and a reactive mesogen (RM) layer, while the bottom substrate was coated with only PI. We exposed the top substrate with the RM coating to UV light. The reflection bandwidth of the PSCLC samples where the top substrate was over-coated with RM was significantly broader than the samples where both substrates were coated with PI. In addition to the effect of the UV intensity gradient, the RM-coated top substrate has a chemical affinity to bulk RM, promoting formation of the pitch gradient and broadening the reflection bandwidth in the sample. <P>We experimentally measured the splay (<I>e</I> <SUB>s</SUB>) and the bend flexoelectric coefficients (<I>e</I> <SUB>b</SUB>) of liquid crystal (LC) mixtures with negative dielectric anisotropy and investigated their effect on the image flicker of the LC mixtures driven with a low frequency electric field. Using the experimentally measured <I>e</I> <SUB>s</SUB> and <I>e</I> <SUB>b</SUB>, we simulated the transmittance (TR) response with the continuum model. First, we confirmed that the TR simulation results were approximated to the experimental data with only small variation. Second, we varied the simulation parameters of <I>e</I> <SUB>s</SUB> <I>, e</I> <SUB>b</SUB>, the separation (<I>S</I>), and the width (<I>W</I>) of the interdigitated electrodes and tried to find the optimum condition showing the least image flicker. Given <I>W</I> = 3.0 <I>μ</I>m and <I>e</I> <SUB>b</SUB> = 5.7 pC m<SUP>−1</SUP>, it was found that the image flicker could be minimized when the <I>e</I> <SUB>s</SUB> <I>/e</I> <SUB>b</SUB> value was about 2.4 and the <I>S</I>/<I>W</I> ratio was about 1.5. Because the <I>e</I> <SUB>s</SUB> <I>/e</I> <SUB>b</SUB> value of the rod-like LC material is generally less than 1, it is desirable to design an interdigitated electrode structure to minimize the image flicker effect.</P>

<P>The self-heating effect (SHE) in top-gate In–Ga–Zn–O (IGZO) thin-film transistors (TFTs) was examined systematically using short electrical pulse measurement methods. The temperature dependence of the pulse measurements of IGZO TFTs revealed a significant increase in temperature during the measurements, suggesting that conventional measurements can overestimate the device performance significantly. The effective temperature was introduced and extracted for IGZO TFTs at various heating powers and ambient temperatures. The short sampling time was determined to be a key in characterizing the intrinsic device properties that are not influenced by the SHE. The cooling behavior after self-heating was also examined using multipulse measurements. Because heating and cooling are significant even in a very short time, it is essential to consider the operation condition of the devices when characterizing TFTs to estimate the precise performance and reliability in a real operation.</P>

<P>A novel single-pulse charge pumping (SPCP) method was proposed and implemented to profile the density of states (DOSs) in metal–oxide–semiconductor thin-film transistors (TFTs). The proposed SPCP method was demonstrated in characterizing the DOS below the conduction band of indium gallium zinc oxide TFTs. The DOSs, including oxygen vacancy donorlike states and band tail states, were characterized successfully with high resolution. This method has all the advantages of the conventional CP method and single-pulse characterization.</P>

The trap energy profile of top gate In-Ga-Zn-O (IGZO) thin film transistors was extracted suc- cessfully using a transmission line model incorporating the conductance method. By implementing the transmission line model method into the conventional conductance method, we were able to evaluate the contact resistance and the channel length modulation precisely and to decouple them to obtain the intrinsic channel conductance. The observed conductance over the angular frequency was almost perfectly symmetrical, which is observed only in the ideal conductance method. Finally, a shallow trap profile, including the trap density and time constant near the conduction band edge of IGZO, was extracted successfully.

Open rhinoseptoplasty has been widely performed in the field of otorhinolaryngology. However, from the perspective of beginners, rhinoseptoplasty is a hard-to-learn surgery that involves a relatively steep learning curve. Therefore, practical guidance is essential to enhance the skills needed for excellent surgical outcomes. Here, we provide a step-wise dissection manual using a commercialized silicone nose model designed for rhinoseptoplasty. The contents include general approaches with regard to transcolumellar inverted V incision, flap elevation, osteotomy, septoplasty, modification of the lower lateral cartilage for tip surgery, and dorsal augmentation using silicone implants. In addition, we introduce novel techniques such as dorsal augmentation using a ready-made mold with tissue glue applied to diced cartilage and polycaprolactone mesh for rhinoseptoplasty. The present study also provides photos of individual surgical procedures using a silicone nose model for actual guidance. The authors expect that this manual will help beginning rhinoseptoplasty surgeons improve their confidence.
