Anti-inflammatory effect of quetiapine on collagen-induced arthritis of mouse

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Quetiapine is an atypical antipsychotic and has also been used in the treatment of depression. Since anti-inflammatory effects of antidepressants are well established, we hypothesized that quetiapine may also exert anti-inflammatory effects. Thus this study was designed to examine the anti-inflammatory effect of quetiapine in murine collagen-induced arthritis. Mice were immunized with collagen type II for the induction of arthritis and treated with quetiapine (10mg/kg) daily for 2weeks. Mice were divided into 3 groups: control, CIA, and CIA+quetiapine treatment. Arthritic index and paw thickness were used to compare severity of arthritis. In additions, radiological and histological assessments were employed. Anti-type II collagen-specific antibody, interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-17 (IL-17), and prostaglandin E<SUB>2</SUB> (PGE<SUB>2</SUB>) were evaluated at the end of the treatment period. Both arthritic index and paw thickness were markedly improved in CIA+quetiapine treatment group compared with those in CIA groups (arthritic index; <I>P</I><0.01, paw thickness; <I>P</I><0.05). Radiologic assessment revealed decreased cartilage damage and bone erosion in CIA+quetiapine treatment group compared with those in CIA groups. Articular cartilage destruction observed in CIA group was not found in CIA+quetiapine group. The concentrations of anti-type II collagen-specific antibody, IL-6, IL-17, and PGE<SUB>2</SUB> in CIA+quetiapine group were significantly lower than those in CIA groups (<I>P</I><0.05). Weight gain which is commonly observed with the treatment of antipsychotics was not observed. Taken together, these results suggest that quetiapine shows anti-inflammatory effects in murine collagen-induced arthritis.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A comparative study of 3-dimensional textured glass morphologies with variable haze value and chemical texturing of the glass substrates was conducted to enhance light trapping in silicon (Si) thin film solar cells (TFSCs). The light trapping characteristics of periodic honeycomb structures show enhanced transmittance and haze ratio in numerical and experimental approaches. The periodic honeycomb structure of notched textures is better than a random or periodic carved structure. It has high transmittance of ∼95%, and haze ratio of ∼52.8%, and the haze property of the angular distribution function of transmittance shows wide scattering angles in the long wavelength region because of the wide spacing and aspect ratio of the texture. The numerical and experimental approaches of the 3-D texture structures in this work will be useful in developing high-performance Si TFSCs with light trapping.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> 3-D Light trapping structures are investigated for Si thin film solar cells. </LI> <LI> A glass texturing method is developed using chemical solutions of diluted HF. </LI> <LI> FDTD simulation shows a notched periodic honeycomb texture will be effective one. </LI> <LI> Periodic texturing shows better light scattering performance than random structures. </LI> <LI> Fabricated periodic honeycomb structure shows high transmittance and haze values. </LI> </UL> </P>

<P>A glass texturing process was developed to enhance the light scattering in the wideband wavelength range for thin-film hydrogenated amorphous silicon solar cells. Periodic honeycomb structures were patterned on glass substrates by a simple photolithography and chemical wet-etching process using HF (10%) solutions. We investigated the optical properties of the textured glasses for various etching times (i.e., the statuses of the etching steps), which were characterized using optical measurements and finite-difference time-domain simulations. We found the reproducible texturing conditions for obtaining high transmittance and haze values, and the angular distribution measurements showed that the scattered light is diffracted and trapped within the solar cell. The textured glass substrates showed a maximum transmittance of 95.5% and a haze ratio of about 61% in the wideband wavelength range, and the finite-difference time-domain simulation expected a very high short-circuit current density of 21.9 mA/cm(2) for a single-junction thin-film hydrogenated amorphous silicon solar cell employing the honeycomb textured glass substrates, which will be useful for developing high-performance thin-film hydrogenated amorphous silicon solar cells.</P>

<P>The signaling pathway downstream of TNF receptor (TNFR) is involved in the induction of a wide range of cellular processes, including cell proliferation, activation, differentiation, and apoptosis. TNFR-associated factor 2 (TRAF2) is a key adaptor molecule in TNFR signaling complexes that promotes downstream signaling cascades, such as nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-kappa B) and mitogen-activated protein kinase activation. TRAF-interacting protein (TRIP) is a known cellular binding partner of TRAF2 and inhibits TNF-induced NF-kappa B activation. Recent findings that TRIP plays a multifunctional role in antiviral response, cell proliferation, apoptosis, and embryonic development have increased our interest in exploring how TRIP can affect the TNFR-signaling pathway on a molecular level. In our current study, we demonstrated that TRIP is negatively involved in the TNF-induced inflammatory response through the down-regulation of proinflammatory cytokine production. Here, we demonstrated that the TRAF2-TRIP interaction inhibits Lys(63)-linked TRAF2 ubiquitination by inhibiting TRAF2 E3 ubiquitin (Ub) ligase activity. The TRAF2-TRIP interaction inhibited the binding of sphingosine 1-phosphate, which is a cofactor of TRAF2 E3 Ub ligase, to the TRAF2 RING domain. Finally, we demonstrated that TRIP functions as a negative regulator of proinflammatory cytokine production by inhibiting TNF-induced NF-kappa B activation. These results indicate that TRIP is an important cellular regulator of the TNF-induced inflammatory response.</P>
LTE 기반 5G 방송 시스템에서 PMCH 의 성능에 관한 연구

본 논문은 LTE (long term evolution) 기반 5G (fifth-generation) 방송 시스템에서 PMCH (physical multicast channel)의 송수신기 구조를 제시하고 성능을 확인한다. 3GPP (3rd generation partnership project)에서 개발된 release 16 은 LTE 기반 5G 방송을 포함하고 있으며, 기존 release 14 를 기반으로 하는 FeMBMS (further evolved multimedia broadcast multicast service) 시스템에 비해 더 넓은 커버리지 (coverage)를 확보하기 위한 새로운 OFDM (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) 파라미터가 추가로 정의되었다. 본 논문에서는 AWGN (additive white Gaussian noise) 및 이동 환경 하에서 LTE 기반 5G 방송을 지원하는 OFDM 파라미터를 적용한 PMCH 의 성능을 제시하였다.
IM-OFDM-SS/QOS 시스템을 위한 2 단계 검출 방법에 대한 연구

본 논문에서는 IM-OFDM-SS(index modulated orthogonal frequency division multiplexing with spread spectrum)와 IM-OFDM-QOS(IM-OFDM with quasi-orthogonal sequence) 시스템을 위한 2 단계 검출 (2-stage detection) 방법에 대해 연구하였다. IM-OFDM-SS/QOS 시스템은 전송할 수열의 인덱스(index)와 변조 심볼(modulation symbol)을 이용하여 정보를 전달하며, 수신기(receiver)에서는 인덱스와 변조 심볼을 결합하여 동시에 검출하는 최대 우도(maximum-likelihood) 검출 방법을 사용할 수 있다. 그리고, 인덱스를 먼저 검출하고, 검출한 인덱스에 대한 변조 심볼을 이어서 검출하는 2 단계 방법을 적용할 수 있다. 따라서, 본 논문에서는 IMOFDM-QOS 시스템에 2 단계 검출 방법을 적용하여 성능을 비교한다. 또한, 두 개 이상의 수열을 동시에 전송하는 경우 2 단계 검출 방법의 한계를 논의한다.
