Distributed Energy Generation and Flow Optimization: A Simultaneous Approach

Energy generation and flow optimization is one of primary concerns in distributed energy grids. Typically, optimal energy generation and optimal flow are studied separately. In this paper, we propose an optimization algorithm which considers both energy generation and energy flow simultaneously. We construct a dynamical system to seek the optimal solution for both energy generation and energy flow. The theoretical guarantee of the proposed algorithm is provided. In addition, we carry out a numerical simulation to demonstrate the correctness of the strategy.
Measurement technology using Z axis adaptation for burrs formed on curved surfaces

Burr is an undesirable jutting out formed as a result of plastic deformation of a metal during cutting and shearing operations. Burrneeds to be minimized by an effective deburring process to improve the efficiency of machining and the quality of product. There is alsoa growing need for a measurement method or suitable measurement device to inspect burrs, favorably at drilled holes, sizes ranging frommicro to macro. In fact, without an appropriate measurement method, it has become more difficult to examine and measure burrs formedon a free surface. In this work, a burr measurement system is developed using a conoscopic holography sensor, which offers certain advantagesover interferometry, triangulation, and dynamic focusing, for point-by-point distance mapping. The measurement system isfurther improved to measure burrs on curved and inclined exit surfaces, whose range exceeds the measurement range of sensors, by usinga Z axis adaptation method.
A New Bearing-Only Navigation Law

This paper proposes a new bearing-only control law which can be used for autonomous navigation task. We firstly compare the proposed control law with a commonly used control law in the literature when the agent navigates with only one beacon. Second, we prove that if there are two or more beacons, the agent can almost globally asymptotically reaches the desired position under the proposed control law. Third, the proposed control law is then applied to a cooperative bearing-only navigation problem. Simulation result is given to support the mathematical analysis.
Development of Online 3D Wrinkle Measurement System

Roll to roll (R2R) system, known as 'web processing', is the process of producing these electronic devices on a roll of flexible plastic. With the need of improved performance and productivity in R2R industry, effective control and on-line supervision for web quality is essential. In this report, we present a system for on-line measurement of wrinkles, one of defects incurring due to compressive stresses developed in the web. This system is able to capture an image generated when a well defined line shape laser beam passes through a transparent web. The system calculates 3D shape information, including the height of the wrinkle on the web, and displays the images for the shape information of the web in real time. By using area scan camera and machine vision laser, this system takes more advantages of setting up as a simple and low cost system compared to the line scan camera systems that widely used in web manufacturing. Specific calibration method and analysis on the achievable accuracy will be discussed.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of yeast extract (YE) and salicylic acid (SA) on the expression of curcuminoid-biosynthesis genes (CzDCS and CURS1-3), and accumulation of curcumin in Curcuma zedoaria cell cultures. The results showed that, in cells treated with YE or SA, the expression levels of curcuminoid genes were 1.14- to 3.64-fold higher than the control (untreated cells), in which the YE exhibited a stronger effect in comparison with SA. Curcumin accumulation also tended to be similar to gene expression, curcumin contents in YE- or SA-treated cells were 1.61- to 2.53-fold higher than the control. The SA treatment at the fifth day of culture stimulated the curcumin accumulation and expression in all four genes compared to that at the beginning. While the YE treatments gave different results, the CzCURS1 and CzCURS3 genes were expressed strongly in cells that were treated at the beginning. However, the CzDCS and CzCURS2 genes showed the opposite expression pattern, they were activated strongly in the treatments at day five of the culture. However, the content of curcumin reached its maximum value on the fifth day of culture in all investigations.

We developed a cell suspension culture system for zedoary Curcuma zedoaria Roscoe), using 100 g fresh weight inoculum in a batch culture. The maximum cell biomass of 68.46 g/L fresh weight was obtained after 14 days of culture in a 10 L bioreactor with a pitch-blade impeller maintained at an agitation speed of 150 rpm and an aeration rate of 2.5 L/min. The accumulation of sesquiterpenes and polysaccharide in zedoary cells from 2 to 18 days was measured by HPLC and a phenol-sulfuric acid assay, respectively. The total polysaccharide concentration increased between 2 to 10 days of culture and reached a maximum value of 6.55%. HPLC revealed several eluted peaks of sesquiterpenes, which increased in amplitude from days 2 to 10. Furthermore, our results indicated that biotransformation occurred in the cell suspension, transforming certain sesquiterpenes into other types during culture
