This work aims at developing an approach to poly(acrylic acid)/cerium ions (PAA/cerium ions) double network hydrogels and exploring the self-healing properties of the hydrogels, with expectation to provide some clues for constructing new healable gel actuators and enrich the family of self-healable hydrogels. The hydrogel is covalently crosslinked by a traditional crosslinking agent N,N'-methylene bis-acrylamide to form the first network and further physically crosslinked by the ionic interaction between cerium ions and the carboxyl groups in the hydrogel network. The preparation method and self-healing behaviors of the hydrogels are investigated.

This paper presents an experimental work for short circular steel tube columns filled with normal concrete (NAC), recycled aggregate concrete (RAC), and RAC with silica fume and steel fiber. Ten specimens were tested under axial compression to research the effect of silica fume and steel fiber volume percentage on the behavior of recycled aggregate concrete-filled steel tube columns (RACFST). The failure modes, ultimate loads and axial load- strain relationships are presented. The test results indicate that silica fume and steel fiber would not change the failure mode of the RACFST column, but can increase the mechanical performances of the RACFST column because of the filling effect and pozzolanic action of silica fume and the confinement effect of steel fiber. The ultimate load, ductility and energy dissipation capacity of RACFST columns can exceed that of corresponding natural aggregate concrete-filled steel tube (NACFST) column. Design formulas EC4 for the load capacity NACFST and RACFST columns are proposed, and the predictions agree well with the experimental results from this study.

Silk Fibroin (SF) is a protein polymer with great biocompatibility, which can promote cell proliferation and differentiation,and enhance bone repair. In this paper, the effects of distinctive concentrations of SF solutions on the physicochemical andbiological properties of the SF-HA-SA scaffolds were investigated. The SF-HA-SA porous scaffolds were prepared utilizingthe pneumatic extrusion 3D printing technique, composed of hydroxyapatite (HA) and different concentrations of SF solution,and sodium alginate (SA) as a binder. The results shown the SF-HA-SA scaffolds can promote cell proliferation withthe increase of SF concentration in scaffolds, and the strength meets the necessities of trabecular bone defects of bone andcartilage repair. It provides an important reference for the application of SF in bone tissue engineering.
