Molecular mapping of four blast resistance genes using recombinant inbred lines of 93-11 and nipponbare

        Hongmei Yang,Melissa H Jia,Yulin Jia,Junjie Xing,Venu, R-C,Maria Bellizzi,Longping Yuan,Zhilong Wang,Chuanqing Sun,Guo-Liang Wang 한국식물학회 2013 Journal of Plant Biology Vol.56 No.2

Molecular mapping of new blast resistance genes is important for developing resistant rice cultivars using marker-assisted selection. In this study, 259 recombinant inbred lines (RILs) were developed from a cross between Nipponbare and 93-11, and were used to construct a 1165.8-cM linkage map with 131 polymorphic simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers. Four major quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for resistance to six isolates of Magnaporthe oryzae were identified: qPi93-1, qPi93-2, qPi93-3, and qPiN-1. For the three genes identified in 93-11, qPi93-1 is linked with SSR marker RM116 on the short arm of chromosome 11 and explains 33% of the phenotypic variation in resistance to isolate CHE86. qPi93-2 is linked with SSR marker RM224 on the long arm of chromosome 11 and accounts for 31% and 25% of the phenotypic variation in resistance to isolates 162-8B and ARB50, respectively. qPi93-3 is linked with SSR marker RM7102 on chromosome 12 and explains 16%, 53%, and 28% of the phenotypic variation in resistance to isolates CHE86, ARB52, and ARB94, respectively. QTL qPiN-1 from Nipponbare is associated with SSR marker RM302 on chromosome 1 and accounts for 34% of the phenotypic variation in resistance to isolate PO6-6. These new genes can be used to develop new varieties with blast resistance via marker-aided selection and to explore the molecular mechanism of rice blast resistance.

Cyclic load experiment study on the laminated composite RC walls with different concrete ages

        Hongmei Zhang,Xilin Lu,Jianbao Li,Lin Liang 국제구조공학회 2010 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.36 No.6

12 typical laminated composite reinforced concrete (RC) walls with different concrete ages and 3 cast-in-place RC walls subjected to low frequency cyclic load were carried out in this study. The failure mode, force-deformation response and energy dissipation capacity of these specimens were investigated. Differences of structural behaviours between composite RC walls and common cast-in-place RC walls were emphasized in the analysis. The compatibility of the composite specimens with different concrete ages was discussed based on the experiment. Test results indicated that the differences between the lateral bearing capacity and the displacement ductility of the composite walls and the common walls were not so obvious. Some of the composite specimen even has higher bearing capacity under the experiment loading situation. Besides, the two parts of the laminated composite specimens demonstrates incompatibility at the later loading sequence on failure mode and strain response when it is in tension. Finally, this laminated composite shear walls are suggested to be applied in rapid reconstruction structures which is not very high.

Maxillary protraction using customized mini-plates for anchorage in an adolescent girl with skeletal Class III malocclusion

        Shuran Liang,Xianju Xie,Fan Wang,Qiao Chang,Hongmei Wang,Yuxing Bai 대한치과교정학회 2020 대한치과교정학회지 Vol.50 No.5

The treatment of skeletal Class III malocclusion in adolescents is challenging. Maxillary protraction, particularly that using bone anchorage, has been proven to be an effective method for the stimulation of maxillary growth. However, the conventional procedure, which involves the surgical implantation of mini-plates, is traumatic and associated with a high risk. Three-dimensional (3D) digital technology offers the possibility of individualized treatment. Customized miniplates can be designed according to the shape of the maxillary surface and the positions of the roots on cone-beam computed tomography scans; this reduces both the surgical risk and patient trauma. Here we report a case involving a 12-year-old adolescent girl with skeletal Class III malocclusion and midface deficiency that was treated in two phases. In phase 1, rapid maxillary expansion and protraction were performed using 3D-printed mini-plates for anchorage. The mini-plates exhibited better adaptation to the bone contour, and titanium screw implantation was safer because of the customized design. The orthopedic force applied to each mini-plate was approximately 400–500 g, and the plates remained stable during the maxillary protraction process, which exhibited efficacious orthopedic effects and significantly improved the facial profile and esthetics. In phase 2, fixed appliances were used for alignment and leveling of the maxillary and mandibular dentitions. The complete two-phase treatment lasted for 24 months. After 48 months of retention, the treatment outcomes remained stable.

Principals’ perceptions of effective teaching: A survey of Chinese school principals

Shujie Liu,Jian Wang,Hongmei Liang 한국교육개발원 2015 KEDI Journal of Educational Policy Vol.12 No.2

Principals’ beliefs of effective teaching presumably shape their efforts to recruit teachers, evaluate teaching quality, support teachers to develop their teaching practices, and nurture the professional environment that promotes high the teaching quality in their schools. Drawing on survey data from 314 Chinese principals, this study examines principals’ perceptions of effective teaching and compares them with those of Chinese teachers and U.S. school principals in the literature. The study found that Chinese principals believed effective teaching practices to be those that align lesson plans with student learning styles, engage students actively in the learning process, offer clear, specific, and timely feedback, treat all students with respect, and maintain a physical and emotional safe environment for learning. These ideas are consistent with Chinese teachers’ perceptions about effective teaching but are clearly differentiated from those of U.S. principals. These perceptions were varied as participants had different years of administrative experiences, worked in urban or rural schools, and in schools with different levels of student performance.

Lattice-based Threshold Ring Signature with Message Block Sharing

( Jiangshan Chen ),( Yupu Hu ),( Wen Gao ),( Hongmei Liang ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2019 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.13 No.2

Threshold ring signature scheme enables any t entities from N ring members to spontaneously generate a publicly verifiable t-out-of-N signature anonymously. The verifier is convinced that the signature is indeed generated by at least t users from the claimed group, but he cannot tell them apart. Threshold ring signatures are significant for ad-hoc groups such as mobile ad-hoc networks. Based on the lattice-based ring signature proposed by Melchor et al. at AFRICRYPT’13, this work presents a lattice-based threshold ring signature scheme, employing the technique of message block sharing proposed by Choi and Kim. Besides, in order to avoid the system parameter setup problems, we proposed a message processing technique called “pad-then-permute”, to pre-process the message before blocking the message, thus making the threshold ring signature scheme more flexible. Our threshold ring signature scheme has several advantages: inherits the quantum immunity from the lattice structure; has considerably short signature and almost no signature size increase with the threshold value; provable to be correct, efficient, indistinguishable source hiding, and unforgeable.
