Fretting damage under high temperature corrosion and wear condition is one of the main factors that cause the failure of thekey parts of mechanical and electrical equipment, and laser cladding wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant coating is the maintechnology to repair these failure key parts. In this paper, the layered 50Cr6Ni2/Stellite X-40 multi-material was prepared bydirect laser deposition (DLD) using wear-resistant Fe-based alloy and corrosion-resistant Co-based alloy, to meet the needsof repair and remanufacturing of key parts with fretting damage. The results show that the layered 50Cr6Ni2/Stellite X-40composite material retains their respective microstructures and excellent properties. The microstructure of the 50Cr6Ni2layer mainly contains martensite and granular bainite, the microstructure of the Stellite X-40 layer consists of dendrite andeutectic structure. The layered 50Cr6Ni2/Stellite X-40 composite material has both good wear resistance (wear mass loss is1.0 mg) and good corrosion resistance (− 0.37549 of Ecorrand 0.00032 of icorr). The DLD layered 50Cr6Ni2/Stellite X-40composite material could meet the demand of short stress path rolling mill remanufacturing.

Several model-scale tests with a ship model have been performed in the ice tank of the Marine Technology Group in the Aalto University. The ship model of ice going tanker Uikku was mounted rigidly to the main carriage and towed through ice fields. The model tests were performed by changing ice thickness, drift angles and speeds in different ice fields. This paper reports the testing results and different phenomenon during model tests. The measured ice forces are presented and compared to level ice forces. The process of ice forces from broken ice on the ship is also analyzed for some typical tests. The research work could provide guidance on marine structures operating in waters covered by broken ice.

Fleagrass, a herb known for its pleasant aroma, is widely used as a mosquito repellent, antibacterial agent, and for treating colds, reducing swelling, and alleviating pain. The antifungal effects of the essential oils of fleagrass and carvacrol against Candida albicans were investigated by evaluating the growth and the mycelial and biofilm development of C. albicans. Transmission electron microscopy was used to evaluate the integrity of the cell membrane and cell wall of C. albicans. Fleagrass exhibited high fungicidal activity against C. albicans at concentrations of 0.5% v/v (via the Ras1/cAMP/PKA pathway). Furthermore, transmission electron microscopy revealed damage to the cell wall and membrane after treatment with the essential oil, which was further confirmed by the increased levels of β-1,3-glucan and chitin in the cell wall. This study showed that fleagrass exerts good fungicidal and hyphal growth inhibition activity against C. albicans by disrupting its cell wall, and thus, fleagrass may be a potential antifungal drug.

Hydrogels have been widely adopted for in-depth water control in mature oilfields, however, the poormechanical properties limit their application. Herein, a conjoined-network induced hydrogel was preparedthrough the in-situ free radical copolymerization of acrylamide (AM), Acrylic acid (AA) and N,N0-methylenebis(acrylamide) (MBA) in the presence of nano-cellulose (CNF/ACNF), and the coordinationeffect between aluminium ion and carboxyl. The results showed that a small amount of nano-cellulose(0.2 %) increased the compressive strength of the hydrogel by 7 times. The presence of nano-celluloseendowed the hydrogel with excellent thermal stability and high shearing elasticity, at the same time,could effectively reduced the swelling rate that hindered its disintegration in practical application. Theevaluation of sand-pack plugging suggested that the double cross-linked nano-cellulose hydrogel presenteda significant capacity for efficient water plugging, where the breakthrough pressure gradientwas as high as 23.73 MPa, the plugging rate reached 99.9%, and the maximum residual resistance factorwas 3902.06. This work provided a novel design of hydrogel with high compressive strength and satisfactorystability for water shutoff and conformance control in heterogeneous oil reservoirs.

<P>For the goal of superconducting magnet applications in the advanced testing device for high temperature superconducting (HTS) wire and sample coils, a wide bore conduction-cooled superconducting magnet with available warm bore of phi 186 mm and center field of 5 T for the background magnetic field applications was designed and fabricated and tested. A sample cryostat with two GM cryocoolers is inserted in the background magnet. The system allows measurements to be performed in a repeatable and reliable fashion. The detailed design, fabrication and thermal analysis are presented in the paper.</P>
