The Ministry of Agriculture and Fishery had carried out a random sample survey on rice yield by the method of plot cutting since 1959 to obtain correct statistics on rice production. There are important problems connected with the determination of optimum size and shape of sample plot, variation of yield between plots and field and variation in the time needed for different types of plot cutting. This kind of research has been performed in India by Dr. P. V. Sukhatme and Dr. V. G. Panse. Also the same optimum procedures are much different in Japan that in India. In Korea, the optimum procedures may well be different from either of these countries. Although the government is proceeding with the crop yield survey, it does not attempt to investigate plot problems but emphasize total rice yield estimation. This particular research was conducted on a scale enough that the author could personally supervise all of the work.
A Study on Unequal Probability Sampling over Two Successive Occasions in Time Series

본 논문에서는 반복적 계속 표본조사에서 일부의 표본을 교체하는 2회 계속조사의 표본 추출법들을 요약하고 앞 조사시기의 관찰값을 확률측도로 이용한 RHC(Rao-Hartley-Cochran) 유형의 불균둥 확률추출법을 제안하였다. 제안된 추출법과 기존의 확률추출법의 비교를 위하여 둘째 조사시기의 모평균 추정량과 그의 분산을 유포하였으며, 제안된 추출법외 상대 효율은 이론적인 측면과 수치적 시뮬레이션 방법으로 비교 분석되었다. 시뮬레이션 비교를 위하여 한 특별한 시계열 모형을 가정하고 이를 사용하여 인위적인 모집단을 생성하였으며 이 모집단에서 각 추출법에 해당되는 표본을 컴퓨터로 추출하여 각각의 추정치를 계산하여 비교한 결과에서 RHC 유형의 새로 제안된 추출법의 분산과 편차가 일반적으로 적음을 보였다. We review sampling schemes on successive occasions with partial replacement of units and propose a Rao-Hartley-Cochran(RHC) type`s sampling scheme over two successive occasions with probability proportionate to observations on the previous occasion. For comparison of the reviewed and proposed sampling schemes, optimal estimator of population mean on second occasion and its variance are derived. The relative efficiency of the proposed sampling scheme is compared with other equal and unequal probability sampling scheme by theoretical and numerical simulation study. For simulation study, three artificial populations are generated by a time series model. It is observed that RHC type`s sampling scheme has small variance and deviation in general.
A Study on Sampling for Estimating Tobacco Disease Incidences

For crops that are planted in a lattice layout, sampling designs can be made to take advantage of this regular arrangement. In order to select which tobacco plants to be examined in a survey to estimate disease loss in tobacco a method of, so called, bent plots was devised based on the regularity of plantings in the tobacco fields. We will first describe this sample selection and measurement method and then provide estimators and their bias and variance properties.

Use of the Linear Placement Statistics for the Parallelism of Two Regression Lines

In this paper we propose a class of tests for the parallelism of two regression lines based on linear placement statistics. The results of a small-sample Monte Carlo study show that the proposed tests are reasonably good in level control and powers.
Bayes Estimation of Reliability in the Strength-Stress Models

We obtain the Bayes estimator(BE), the minimum variance unbiased estimator(MVUE) and maximun likelihood estimator(MLE) of the reliability when the distribution of the stress and the strength are Weibull with known shape parameters. The experiment is terminated before all of the items on the test have failed and the failed items are partially replaced. Performance of the three estimators for moderate size samples are compared through Monte Carlo simulation.
