      • Development of a Design Factor Quantification Method to Increase a Grip Comfort of Outside Door Handle (ODH)

        Objective: The present study is to evaluate satisfaction of vehicle outside door handles (ODHs) by design factor for improving grip comfort. Background: Existing studies have mainly focused on size and/or shape of typical handles (e.g., cylindrical handle); therefore, a specialized research for ergonomic ODH design is needed. Method: Satisfaction (operation, shape, height, width, tilting angle, central radius (R), inside upper R, inside middle R, inside lower R, pressure distribution, and overall satisfaction) by design factor (2-level: section width; 3-level: central R, inside upper R, inside middle R, inside lower R, tilting angle, and section height) were analyzed by applying a Taguchi L18 design (2¹ × 3<SUP>6</SUP>). Design levels by design factor were determined referring to 5 existing ODHs. 18 ODHs developed in the study were relatively evaluated comparing with a reference ODH (0 point) through an 11-point bipolar scale (-5: extremely dissatisfaction, 0: no difference, +5: extremely satisfaction) by twenty participants aged 20s ~ 50s. Results: Section width and inside upper R were significant on satisfaction of ODH. Conclusion: A design guideline for ODH was established considering users’ satisfaction. Application: The design factor evaluation protocol using Taguchi method applied in the study can be applicable to the other vehicle moving handles (e.g., inside door handle, door trim grip handle, door trim pull handle).

        흉부 및 대혈관 외상의 인터벤션

        Trauma is an injury to the body that involves multiple anatomical and pathophysiological changes caused by forces acting from outside the body. The number of patients with trauma is increasing as our society becomes more sophisticated. The importance and demand of traumatology are growing due to the development and spread of treatment and diagnostic technologies. In particular, damage to the large blood vessels of the chest can be life-threatening, and the sequelae are often severe; therefore, diagnostic and therapeutic methods are becoming increasingly important. Trauma to nonaortic vessels of the thorax and aorta results in varying degrees of physical damage depending on the mechanism of the accident and anatomical damage involved. The main damage is hemorrhage from non-aortic vessels of the thorax and aorta, accompanied by hemodynamic instability and coagulation disorders, which can be life-threatening. Immediate diagnosis and rapid therapeutic access can often improve the prognosis. The treatment of trauma can be surgical or interventional, depending on the patient’s condition. Among them, interventional procedures are increasingly gaining popularity owing to their convenience, rapidity, and high therapeutic effectiveness, with increasing use in more trauma centers worldwide. Typical interventional procedures for patients with thoracic trauma include embolization for non-aortic injuries and thoracic endovascular aortic repair for aortic injuries. These procedures have many advantages over surgical treatments, such as fewer internal or surgical side effects, and can be performed more quickly than surgical procedures, contributing to improved outcomes for patients with trauma. 외상(trauma)이란 신체 외부에서 작용한 힘에 의한 여러 해부학적, 병태생리학적 변화를 수반하는 신체 손상을 의미한다. 외상 환자는 우리 사회가 고도로 발달해 감에 따라 그 수도 따라 증가하고 있다. 치료 및 진단기술의 발전과 보급의 증가로 외상의학의 중요성은 점점 커지고 있으며 그 수요 역시 증가하고 있다. 그중 특히 흉부 및 흉부의 대혈관의 손상은 환자의생명을 위협하고 그 후유증 역시 심각한 경우가 많아 진단 및 치료 방법의 중요성이 점차 증가하고 있는 추세이다. 흉부 및 흉부의 대혈관의 외상이 발생하였을 경우 그 사고 수상 기전및 관련된 해부학적 손상 기전에 따라서 다양한 정도의 신체 손상이 발생한다. 주요한 손상으로는 흉부의 동맥에서 발생하는 출혈이 있으며, 이는 혈역학적 불안정과 응고장애 등을 동반하여 환자의 생명을 위협하게 된다. 이러한 손상은 즉각적인 진단과 빠른 치료적 접근이예후를 증진하는데 도움을 주는 경우가 많다. 이러한 환자의 치료로는 환자의 상태에 따라서수술적 접근 방법과 중재적 시술로 접근하는 방법이 있다. 이 중 중재적 시술은 그 편리성과신속성 및 높은 치료 효과로 인해 점차 각광받고 있으며, 전 세계적으로 보다 많은 외상의료기관에서 점차 시행되고 있다. 대표적인 흉부 외상 환자의 인터벤션 치료로는 비대동맥성 손상의 경우 색전술(embolization)이 있으며, 대동맥의 경우 thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR)가 있다. 이러한 시술들은 수술적 치료 방법에 비하여 내과적 혹은 외과적 부작용이 적고, 수술적 방법보다 신속하게 시행할 수 있는 점 등 보다 많은 장점을 가지고 있으며 외상 환자의 치료성적 향상에 기여하고 있다.

      • Oleate Prevents Palmitate-Induced Atrophy via Modulation of Mitochondrial ROS Production in Skeletal Myotubes

        <P>Accumulation of saturated fatty acids contributes to lipotoxicity-related insulin resistance and atrophy in skeletal muscle. Conversely, unsaturated fatty acids like docosahexaenoic acid were proven to preserve muscle mass. However, it is not known if the most common unsaturated oleate will protect skeletal myotubes against palmitate-mediated atrophy, and its specific mechanism remains to be elucidated. Therefore, we investigated the effects of oleate on atrophy-related factors in palmitate-conditioned myotubes. Exposure of myotubes to palmitate, but not to oleate, led to an induction of fragmented nuclei, myotube loss, atrophy, and mitochondrial superoxide in a dose-dependent manner. Treatment of oleate to myotubes attenuated production of palmitate-induced mitochondrial superoxide in a dose-dependent manner. The treatment of oleate or MitoTEMPO to palmitate-conditioned myotubes led to inhibition of palmitate-induced mRNA expression of proinflammatory (TNF-<I>α</I> and IL6), mitochondrial fission (Drp1 and Fis1), and atrophy markers (myostatin and atrogin1). In accordance with the gene expression data, our immunocytochemistry experiment demonstrated that oleate and MitoTEMPO prevented or attenuated palmitate-mediated myotube shrinkage. These results provide a mechanism indicating that oleate prevents palmitate-mediated atrophy via at least partial modulation of mitochondrial superoxide production.</P>

        The Public-Private Partnerships and the Fiscal Soundness of Local Governments in Korea

        This paper studies the risks associated with local finance in Korea by identifying the financial status of each local government, including the financial burdens of PPP projects, and examined governmental future burdens related to PPP projects. We reviewed all fiscal burdens associated with projects, such as, for BTL (Build-Transfer-Lease) types of projects, facility lease and operating expenses, and, for the BTO (Build-Transfer-Operate) types of projects, construction subsidies that are paid at the construction stage, MRG (Minimum Revenue Guarantee) payments and the government's share of payment. Furthermore, we compared the annual expenditures of local governments on PPP projects against their annual budgets and checked if the 2% ceiling rule could be applied.

      • <i>Iodobacter ciconiae</i> sp. nov., a bacterium isolated from feces of oriental stork, <i>Ciconia boyciana</i>

        <P> A novel Gram-stain-negative, facultatively anaerobic, non-motile, non-violet-pigmented, rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain H11R3<SUP>T</SUP>, was isolated from the feces of Oriental stork, <I>Ciconia boyciana</I>, collected from Seoul Grand Park Zoo, Republic of Korea. Phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequence revealed that H11R3<SUP>T</SUP> formed a monophyletic clade with <I>Iodobacter fluviatilis</I> DSM 3764<SUP>T</SUP>, <I>Iodobacter arcticus</I> DSM 100243<SUP>T</SUP>, and <I>Iodobacter limnosediminis</I> DSM 103822<SUP>T</SUP>, with sequence similarities of 98.8, 98.6 and 98.4%, respectively. H11R3<SUP>T</SUP> grew optimally at 15 ℃, pH 8, with 0.5% (w/v) NaCl. The predominant isoprenoid quinone was ubiquinone-8 (Q-8), and polar lipids included phosphatidylethanolamine, three unidentified lipids, four unidentified phospholipids, and two unidentified aminophospholipids. The major fatty acids were summed feature 3 and C<SUB>16 : 0</SUB>, and the DNA G+Ccontent of the genome is 48.0mol%. The average nucleotide identity (ANI) value between strains H11R3<SUP>T</SUP> and <I>I. fluviatilis</I> NCTC 11159<SUP>T</SUP> (=DSM 3764T) is 83.7%. On the basis of phenotypic, genotypic, phylogenetic and chemotaxonomic characteristics, strain H11R3<SUP>T</SUP> represents a novel species of the genus <I>Iodobacter</I> for which the name <I>Iodobacter ciconiae</I> sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is H11R3<SUP>T</SUP> (=KCTC 62666<SUP>T</SUP>=JCM 33283<SUP>T</SUP>). </P>

        Measurement of the Thermal Conductivity of a Polycrystalline Diamond Thin Film via Light Source Thermal Analysis

        A 1.8 μm thick polycrystalline diamond (PCD) thin film layer is prepared on a Si(100) substrate using hot-filament chemical vapor deposition. Thereafter, its thermal conductivity is measured using the conventional laser flash analysis (LFA) method, a LaserPIT-M2 instrument, and the newly proposed light source thermal analysis (LSTA) method. The LSTA method measures the thermal conductivity of the prepared PCD thin film layer using an ultraviolet (UV) lamp with a wavelength of 395 nm as the heat source and a thermocouple installed at a specific distance. In addition, the microstructure and quality of the prepared PCD thin films are evaluated using an optical microscope, a field emission scanning electron microscope, and a micro-Raman spectroscope. The LFA, LaserPIT-M2, and LSTA determine the thermal conductivities of the PCD thin films, which are 1.7, 1430, and 213.43 W/(m·K), respectively, indicating that the LFA method and LaserPIT-M2 are prone to errors. Considering the grain size of PCD, we conclude that the LSTA method is the most reliable one for determining the thermal conductivity of the fabricated PCD thin film layers. Therefore, the proposed LSTA method presents significant potential for the accurate and reliable measurement of the thermal conductivity of PCD thin films.
