        Upregulation of heme oxygenase-1 by ginsenoside Ro attenuates lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammation in macrophage cells

        Background: The beneficial effects of ginsenoside species have been well demonstrated in a number of studies. However, the function of ginsenoside Ro (GRo), an oleanane-type saponin, has not been suffi- ciently investigated. Thus, the aim of the present study was to investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of GRo in vitro using the Raw 264.7 mouse macrophage cell line treated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS), and to clarify the possible mechanism of GRo involving heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), which itself plays a critical role in self-defense in the presence of inflammatory stress. Methods: Raw 264.7 cells were pretreated with GRo (up to 200mM) for 1 h before treatment with 1 mg/ mL LPS, and both cell viability and inflammatory markers involving HO-1 were evaluated. Results: GRo significantly increased cell viability in a dose dependent manner following treatment with LPS, and decreased levels of reactive oxygen species and nitric oxide. GRo decreased inflammatory cytokines such as nitric oxide synthase and cyclooxygenase-2 induced by LPS. Moreover, GRo increased the expression of HO-1 in a dose dependent manner. Cotreatment of GRo with tin protoporphyrin IX, a selective inhibitor of HO-1, not only inhibited upregulation of HO-1 induced by GRo, but also reversed the anti-inflammatory effect of GRo in LPS treated Raw 264.7 cells. Conclusion: GRo induces anti-inflammatory effects following treatment with LPS via upregulation of HO-1.

        경남지역 주요 약용작물의 해충 종류 조사

        경남지역 주요 약용 작물 5종에 발생하는 해충과 기타 해로운 동물의 종류를 1999년과 2000년 2개년 동안 조사하였다. 홍화에서는 우엉수염진딧물과 꽃노랑총채벌레, 대만총채벌레, 오이총채벌레, 알락수염노린재를 포함한 13과 16속 20종이 확인되었으며, 산약에서는 꽃노랑총채벌레, 대만총채벌레, 애긴노린재를 포함한 6과 7속 10종이, 두충에서는 차주머니나방을 포함하여 6과 8속 8종이, 당귀에서는 대만총채벌레, 꽃노랑총채벌레, 차응애, 점박이응애, 복숭아혹진딧물을 포함한 11과 15속 16종이, 길경에서는 담배거세미나방, 파밤나방을 포함하여 10과 11속 14종의 해충이 확인되었다. Insect pests and some important arthropod pests infesting five medicinal crops were surveyed in Gyeongnam province in 1999 and 2000. Nineteen species of 16 genera in 12 families including Vroleucon gobonis, Frankliniella occidentalis, F. intonsa, Tetranychus cinnabarinus, Thrips parmi, and Dolycoris baccarum were identified from safflower. Ten species of 7 genera in 6 families including F. occidentalis, F. intonsa, and Nysius plebejus from yam, 8 species of 8 genera in 6 families including Eumeta minuscula from hardy rubber-tree, 16 species of 14 genera in 11 families including F. occidentalis, F. intonsa, T. kanzawai, T. urticae and Myzus persicae from Angelica gigas, 15 species of 14 genera in 11 families including Spodoptera exigua, and S. litura from balloon flower.

      • EFFECT OF AEROBIC EXERCISES ON BRAIN SCAN AND BLOOD IN SENIOR

        Effect of dance sports on testosterone and brain blood in senior men. It is known that as for the old people, the hormones change caused by exercises has an effect on the blood vessel of a brain and that it also plays an important role in the prevention and medical treatment of senile dementia. The "MMSE-K" test report was used in this study. So the sex hormones(testosterone)) was analyzed in the blood for 2 weeks, divided into 4 terms. By selecting one male subject, the SPECT was used to take pictures of their brain. The results are as followings. Dance sport didn't cause detectable changes in the testosterone of man. When the integrating the results, is was possible to notice the testosterone in men didn't show significant changes until the 4th term. We consi! der that the short term exercise didn't affect the changes of testosterone. However, after adapting to the long term exercise, it seemed to be partial effective. So the increase of maintenance of testosterone, which is the cause of vessel expansion, is thought to increase the brain blood and effective in preventing brain vein diseases. When the integrating the results, it was possible to notice the testosterone in men didn't show significant changes. So the increase of maintance of testosterone, which is the cause of vessel expansion, is thought to increase the brain blood and effect in preventing brain vein disease.       • 국내산고령토정제에 관한 연구

        The samples used for this work were low grade clay(Fe?O? : 2.90%, TiO? :1.65%) produced from Youngsan-do district, and for the iron-bearing impurities removal having a bad influence on Kaoline sample was carried out column floatation using Oleic acid, Potassium oleat, Aero 840 promotor, Aero 870 promotor and Keroseneas collectors. For removal of the iron-vearing impurities from the kaoline, investigated first chemical composition size distribution of Kaoline sample, also performanced a basic study on pulp density, collector and pH change on a sort frother. The flotation separation of impurities from kaoline can be achieved by using both oleic acid and Aero 840 promotor as collectors within narrow aoid limits(pH 2-3). Pine oil was more effective frother than MIBC with olelic acid as aa collector.

        The purpose of this study is to find the effect that the special program which has been acted to junior 50 persons who live in Namgu, Donggu in Incheon area for 8 weeks give to their foundational physical strength. A public health center of Incheon Namgu made a comparative study their foundational physical strength data which has been acted to junior 50 persons before and after taking athletic program. Also, they compared elite junior athlete's foundational physical strength who resistered in Incheon Swimming Federation and Incheon Athletic Federation and the subjects's foundational physical strength for finding how much increased the subeject's foundational physical strength level for 8 weeks athletic program. As an result, it has some statistically similar difference in muscular endurance, power, agility, percent body fat to subject's foundational physical strength. Also, there is an statistically similar difference only in power on the research of the comparison which elite junior athlete's foundational physical strength and subject's foundational physical strength after taking athletic program . we mentioned these results on basis of existing researches which conducted junior's foundational physical strength increasing by athletic program.       • 중학교 체육수업에서의 성차별에 관한 연구

        This research aimed to investigate the characteristics of sexual discrimination experienced by students in co-ed physical education courses. Specifically, two major issues have been analyzed: the types of discrimination felt by students in co-ed physical education courses, and the schemes to improve discrimination as preferred by students, in order to deduce strategies for the reduction of discriminative factors in co-ed physical education courses. The responses derived from 214 students have been analyzed using a three-step categorization. Likewise, the type of discrimination experienced and preferred types of improvement have been fully analyzed according to differences in sex and year of students and sex of teachers. Results show that the sexual discrimination experienced in co-ed physical education courses can be categorized into five general areas of inequality in classes, wrongful punishment, unjust valuation, biased teachers, and discrimination of roles. Likewise, there was a difference in the response to sexual discrimination between male and female students. There was also a difference in the response between third and second year students. However, there was not much difference in the overall cognition of sexual discrimination of teachers. In addition, the preferred improvement factors of sexual discrimination in co-ed physical education can be categorized into six general areas of inequality in class, unequal valuation, unjust punishment, predisposition of teachers, discrimination of role, and discrimination of facilities.         This study shows that the quality standard prescribed in STCW 1955 is a kind of the quality system similar to ISO9000 series, ISO14000 series, and ISM code, and closely related to SOLAS and MARPOL by comparison with each other in various respects. And developing scheme of quality system for maritime educational institution is then also proposed for giving instructions to the concerned. This work is carried out for the first time in the maritime education field, and is thus expected to be very useful and helpful to personnels employed in developing and operating the quality system in the point of practice.
