Chemistry of Ionic Endohedral Fullerenes
Hiroshi Ueno 한국고분자학회 2021 한국고분자학회 학술대회 연구논문 초록집 Vol.46 No.2
Inserting a small chemical species into fullerenes is a fascinating method to endow them with unique characteristic properties. Previously, a powerful method to access alkali metal encapsulated fullerenes, so-called “plasma implantation”, has been developed, which enabled us to achieve scalable synthesis of Li+-encapsulated fullerenes. These compounds are regarded as an “ion-encapsulated fullerene” which is a new fullerene family, but should not be categorized into general endohedral metallofullerenes. As a result of significant progress in the basic studies during the past 10 years, the characteristic properties arising from the ionic natures have been successively explored. I present here the outline of our studies on ion-encapsulated fullerenes including synthetic approach, basic properties, reactivity, and application for perovskite solar cell, aiming at triggering the broad and interdisciplinary expansion of the novel materials.

Objective Galvanic vestibular stimulation (GVS) activates the vestibular afferents, and these changes in vestibular input exert a strong influence on the subject’s posture or standing balance. In patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD), vestibular dysfunction might contribute to postural instability and gait disorders. Methods Current intensity was increased to 0.7 mA, and the current was applied to the patients for 20 minutes. To perform a sham stimulation, the current intensity was increased as described and then decreased to 0 mA over the course of 10 seconds. The patient’s status was recorded continuously for 20 minutes with the patient in the supine position. Results Three out of 5 patients diagnosed with PD with postural instability and/or abnormal axial posture showed a reduction in postural instability after GVS. The score for item 12 of the revised Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale part 3 was decreased in these patients. Conclusions The mechanism of postural instability is complex and not completely understood. In 2 out of the 5 patients, postural instability was not changed in response to GVS. Nonetheless, the GVS-induced change in postural instability for 3 patients in our study suggests that GVS might be a therapeutic option for postural instability
A development of the double screen universal design mobile phone to physically handicapped people

In Yokohama Rehabilitation Center, we"re working to support handicapped people for their daily living through the home visit rehabilitation service. Many seriously handicapped persons requested that they wanted to use the mobile phone for themselves. We started to develop the useful mobile phone for upper limb disabled persons with the mobile phone affiliated company in Japan (NTT DoCoMo, Inc. and Mitsubishi electric corporation) and produced the double screen universal design mobile phone (D800iDS) in February 2007 which had the touch panel and the port of external switch. Then we supported to put D800iDS to practical use for 7 physically handicapped persons who included "cerebral palsy", "spinal cord injury" and "progressive muscular dystrophy" and so other diseases. As a result, we realized that D800iDS was very useful for them. But it is a regret that Mitsubishi electric corporation stopped to produce D800iDS in March 2008. The mobile phone like D800iDS is very much needed by physical handicapped people. We are seriously looking for a company that will join us to develop a mobile phone like D800iDS.

A Zr-based metal-organic framework with tetrakis(carboxyphenyl)porphyrin groups (Zr-MOF-TCPP: MOF-525) has been utilized as a photoredox catalyst to promote oxidative hydroxylation of arylboronic acids under green LED light irradiation. Zr-MOF-TCPP displays a superior catalytic activity for this process over the corresponding homogeneous catalyst (H4TCPP).

Little is known about the treatment of gender dysphoria among children and adolescents in Japan. This preliminary survey aims to improve understanding of current clinical practice for treatment of children with gender dysphoria. Subjects were 315 certified child and adolescent psychiatrists in Japan. The questionnaire asked about clinical experiences concerning gender dysphoria and gender identityrelated concerns. A total of 128 psychiatrists responded to the questionnaire. Mean length of clinical experience was 24.2±10.0 years in total and 16.9±11.5 years as child and adolescent psychiatry specialists. Among the respondents, 74 (57.8%) had seen children and adolescents with DSM-5 gender dysphoria, and 87 (67.7%) had examined cases with gender identity-related concerns. The mean number of experienced cases with gender dysphoria was 1.80±2.3 per respondent. We found that even among certified child and adolescent psychiatrists in Japan, experience with treatment of children with gender dysphoria was limited.

Study Design: Retrospective cohort study.Purpose: We propose a method for screening for low bone mineral density (BMD) among perimenopausal and postmenopausal women using a self-reported questionnaire.Overview of Literature: Osteoporosis is a major health problem worldwide. However, it is not cost-effective to evaluate BMD in all patients. Although several tools for predicting osteoporosis have been established, they do not focus much on low BMD prior to the development of osteoporosis. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 198 women aged 40–70 years who underwent mass screening for osteoporosis at our hospital between 2016 and 2019. The BMD values and the following data were collected: age, body mass index, fracture history, lower back pain, height loss, kyphosis, history of fragility fracture, family history of vertebral or hip fracture, and menopause. The reliability of each data point for the young adult mean <80% was calculated using discriminant analysis. Variables with large weight coefficients were selected and scored. This scoring tool was examined, and a cutoff score for predicting the young adult mean <80% was determined. Results: Sixty-four participants (32.3%) had a young adult mean <80%. According to the weight coefficients, the following five variables were scored as follows: age ≥60 years 3 points, body mass index <22 kg/m2 3 points, lower back pain 1 point, height loss (cm) 1 point, and menopause 1 point. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.738 (95% confidence interval, 0.669–0.807). At cutoff scores of ≥5 and <5, the sensitivity was 82.8%, with specificity of 52.0%.Conclusions: The scoring tool performed well for predicting young adult mean <80% among perimenopausal and postmenopausal women in Japan. This tool may be useful to screen for low BMD.
