Dual emission of temperature-induced betacarboline self-associated hydrogen bond aggregates

A systematic study of the influence of the gradual temperature decrease on the UV-vis absorption and fluorescence emission spectra of betacarboline, 9H-pyrido[3,4-b]indole, BC, and other model systems, such as BC plus $N_9$-methyl-9H-pyrido[3,4-b]indole, MBC, and BC plus pyridine, PY, has been carried out in 2-methylbutane, 2MB. These studies have allowed the conclusion that the temperature decrease favours the formation of hydrogen-bonded self-associated BC aggregates. The initial red shifts of the absorption and emission bands and the fluorescence quenching have been ascribed to the formation of hydrogen bond BC dimers with a proton transfer structure, PTC. In these adducts, the fluorescence is quenched by an electron-driven proton transfer process. However, because the quenching rate constant decreases upon decreasing the temperature, the emission intensity later increases without modification of the wavelength maxima. At the lowest temperatures, these dimeric PTC complexes further aggregate. We propose that they form ground state cyclic tetrameric adducts in which both nitrogen atoms of each BC unit are hydrogen bonded. The tautomeric forms of these tetrameric complexes, generated by a quadruple proton transfer, emit dual fluorescence, from its locally excited state, LE, and its intramolecular charge transfer state, ICT.
ON CONJUGACY OF p-GONAL AUTOMORPHISMS

In 1995 it was proved by Gonz$\acute{a}$lez-Diez that the cyclic group generated by a p-gonal automorphism of a closed Riemann surface of genus at least two is unique up to conjugation in the full group of conformal automorphisms. Later, in 2008, Gromadzki provided a different and shorter proof of the same fact using the Castelnuovo-Severi theorem. In this paper we provide another proof which is shorter and is just a simple use of Sylow's theorem together with the Castelnuovo-Severi theorem. This method permits to obtain that the cyclic group generated by a conformal automorphism of order p of a handlebody with a Kleinian structure and quotient the three-ball is unique up to conjugation in the full group of conformal automorphisms.
Hybrid 'Sinta' Papaya Exhibits Unique ACC Synthase 1 cDNA Isoforms

Five ripening-related ACC synthase cDNA isoforms were cloned from 80% ripe papaya cv. 'Sinta' by reverse transcription-PCR using gene-specific primers. Clone 2 had the longest transcript and contained all common exons and three alternative exons. Clones 3 and 4 contained common exons and one alternative exon each, while clone 1, the most common transcript, contained only the common exons. Clone 5 could be due to cloning artifacts and might not be a unique cDNA fragment. Thus, there are only four isoforms of ACC synthase mRNA. Southern blot analysis indicates that all five clones came from only one gene existing as a single copy in the 'Sinta' papaya genome. Multiple sequence alignment indicates that the four isoforms arise from a single gene, possibly through alternative splicing mechanisms. All the putative alternative exons were present at the 5'-end of the gene comprising the N-terminal region of the protein. 'Sinta' ACC synthase cDNAs were of the capacs 1 type and are most closely related to a 1.4 kb capacs 1-type DNA(AJ277160) from Eksotika papaya. No capacs 2-type cDNAs were cloned from 'Sinta' by RT-PCR. This is the first report of possible alternative splicing mechanism in ripening-related ACC synthase genes in hybrid papaya, possibly to modulate or fine-tune gene expression relevant to fruit ripening.

The purpose of this study is to explore the effects of mobilization of C0-C1 and C7-T1 applied to asymptomatic individuals with reduced upper cervical rotation during the FRT. Design: parallel randomized controlled trial. 48 subjects(38.52 years${\pm}15.13$) with C1-C2 rotation hypomobility in TFR joined the study and were randomized into three groups(C0, C7, control group). FRT in both directions was measured before and after the intervention. C0 intervention consisted of a dorsal translatoric mobilization of C0-C1 in the cervical neutral position. C7 intervention consisted of a ventral cranial translatoric mobilization of C7-T1 in neutral position and the control group maintained a supine position. C0 group experienced a FRT ROM to the restricted side increase of $17.64^{\circ}$(SD=4.55), that was significantly greater (P<0.001) than $5.95^{\circ}$(SD=4.81) of the C7 group and $2.45^{\circ}$(SD=5.05) of the control group. The results showed that a dorsal translatoric mobilization of C0-C1 in neutral position restored the physiological FRT mobility in subjects with C1-C2 hypomobility and experienced statistical significant improvement in FRT as compared to a C7-T1 translatoric mobilization and a control group. The degradation and removal of a series of dyes used in the textile industry for polyester/wool (PES/WO) blends and present in effluents, such as Green, Ash-Grey, Black, Navy Blue, Red and Yellow Domalan, and Orange and Red Bemacid, by catalytic action, in the presence of H_2O_2, of extracts of a novel peroxidase from postharvest lentil stubble was investigated. The extracts of this peroxidase (LSP) were effective in degrading these lastgeneration textile dyes, especially Green Domalan, Orange Bemacid, Grey and Black Domalan. A sensitivity study was carried out for Green Domalan biodegradation to determine the effects of process parameters such as pH,H_2O_2, enzyme and dye concentrations, contact and centrifugation times, and temperature. Standard ecotoxicity studies performed with Vibrio fischeri revealed that the dye solutions treated with peroxidase and H_2O_2 were less ecotoxic than the untreated ones.

In the production of chocolate, only cocoa seeds are used, generating by-products that are generally discarded, increasing the risk of environmental contamination. Given fiber, carbohydrates, proteins, and flavonoid content the use of cacao pod husks can generate nutraceutical products for human consumption. In contrast, obesity represents a major public health problem worldwide. Cacao derivatives are able to modulate overweight and lipid disorders. The objective of present work was to prepare and characterize products using cacao by-products and analyze their effects on altered cardiometabolic risk markers in an obesity model induced by high fat diet and fructose ingestion in rats. The effects of a pellet and extracts made with outer pod husk and kernel husk for 5 weeks were analyzed in an obesity rat model. The treatments significantly decreased body weight by 39%, systolic blood pressure by 27%, triglycerides by 55%, total cholesterol by 24%, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol by 37%, and the triglycerides/high-density lipoprotein ratio by 54%. Cacao by-products improved the metabolic function of obese animals, without causing secondary effects

Chlorella sp. is a green microalgae containing nutrients, vitamins, minerals, and chlorophyll. In some communities, Chlorella sp. is a traditional medicinal plant used for the management of inflammation-related diseases. In a rat model, ROQUETTE Chlorella sp. (RCs) benefits were investigated on visceral pain and associated inflammatory parameters related to cystitis both induced by cyclophosphamide (CYP). RCs was orally administered every day from day 1–16 (250 and 500 mg/kg body weight). Six hours after an intraperitoneal injection of 200 mg/kg body weight of CYP, body temperature, general behavior, food intake, and body weight were recorded. Twenty-four hours after CYP injection, rats were tested in two behavioral tests, an open field and the aversive light stimulus avoidance conditioning test, to evaluate the influence of pain on general activity and learning ability of rats. After euthanasia, bladders were weighed, their thickness was scored, and the urinary hemoglobin was measured. RCs orally administered at the two dosages significantly reduced visceral pain and associated inflammatory parameters related to cystitis both induced by CYP injection, and improved rat behavior. To conclude, RCs demonstrated beneficial effects against visceral pain and cystitis.
