Effect of wild ginseng on the laying performance, egg quality, cytokine expression, ginsenoside concentration, and microflora quantity of laying hens

        Habeeb Tajudeen,문준영,Sang Hun Ha,Abdolreza Hosseindoust,Suhyup Lee,김진수 한국축산학회 2023 한국축산학회지 Vol.65 No.2

The experiment was carried out to study the effect of Korean wild ginseng adventitious root supplementation on the laying performance, egg quality, cytokine expression, ginsenoside concentration, and microflora quantity of Institut de selection Animale (ISA) brown laying hens at 24 weeks old. A total of 90 laying hens were subjected to a completely randomized design at three treatments, five repetitions and six laying hens per replicate. The experiments were divided by diets into the basic feed (CON), basic feed + 0.1% wild ginseng (WG1), and basic feed + 0.5% wild ginseng (WG2). The feeding trial was carried out over a duration of 12 weeks after an initial acclimation period of 2 weeks. Feeds and water were administered ad libitum in mash form, and light was available for 16 hours per day. At the end of study, henday egg production (HDEP), average egg weight (AEW), and egg mass (EM) were increased (p <0.05) in WG2 at week 12. Feed conversion ratio (FCR) was decreased (p < 0.05) in WG2 at week 12. The ginsenoside content in egg yolk was increased (p <0.05) in laying hens in the WG2 treatment at week 12. Relative expression of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) was reduced (p < 0.05) in the WG supplemented diets at week 12. The fecal microflora quantity of Lactobacillus was increased (p < 0.05) in WG2 at week 8 to week 12, and Escherichia coli (E. coli) was significantly decreased (p < 0.05) in the WG2 at week 12. We concluded that the result observed in the HDEP, AEW, EM and FCR was due to an increase in ginsenoside content, leading to an improvement in the TNF-α, and fecal microflora quantity such as Lactobacillus and E. coli in the WG2 supplemented diets. We therefore recommend the use of WG at application level 0.5% per basal diet for optimum laying performance in layer hens.

Effects of various cooling methods and drinking water temperatures on reproductive performance and behavior in heat stressed sows

        Habeeb Tajudeen,Joseph Moturi,Abdolreza Hosseindoust,Sang Hun Ha,문준영,YoHan Choi,Soo-Jin Sa,Jin-Soo Kim 한국축산학회 2022 한국축산학회지 Vol.64 No.4

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of multiple cooling systems and different drinking water temperatures (DWT) on the performance of sows and their hair cortisol levels during heat stress. In this study, the effect of four different cooling systems: air conditioner (AC), cooling pad (CP), snout cooling (SC), and mist spray (MS), and two DWT, namely low water temperature (LWT) and high water temperature (HWT) on 48 multiparous sows (Landrace × Yorkshire; 242.84 ± 2.89 kg) was tested. The experiment is based on the use of eight replicas during a 21-days test. Different behaviors were recorded under different cooling treatments in sows. As a result, behaviors such as drinking, standing, and position change were found to be lower in sows under the AC and CP treatments than in those under the SC and MS treatments. Lying behavior increased under the AC and CP systems as compared with that under the SC and MS, systems. The average daily feed intake (ADFI) in sows and weight at weaning in piglets was higher under the AC, CP, and LWT treatments than under the SC, MS and HWT treatments. Sows subjected to SC and MS treatment showed higher hair cortisol levels, rectal temperature, and respiratory rate during lactation than those under AC and CP treatments. Hair cortisol levels, rectal temperature, and respiratory rate were also higher under the HWT than under the LWT treatment. As per the results of this study, the LWT has no significant effect on any of the behavioral factors. Taken together, the use of AC and CP cooling treatment is highly recommended to improve the behavior and to reduce the stress levels in lactating sows.

Outcomes of side-to-end versus end-to-end colorectal anastomosis in nonemergent sigmoid and rectal cancers: a randomized controlled clinical trial

        Habeeb Tamer A.A.M.,Mohammad Hatem,Wasefy Tamer,Mansour Mohamed Ibrahim 대한대장항문학회 2023 Annals of Coloproctolgy Vol.39 No.3

Purpose: The outcomes of open colorectal anastomosis of side-to-end versus end-to-end in nonemergent sigmoid and rectal cancer surgery in adults were compared. Methods: A randomized controlled trial on individuals with sigmoid and rectal cancers was conducted between September 2016 and September 2018. Results: The mean age was 62.58±12.3 years in the side-to-end anastomotic (SEA) group and 61.03±13.98 years in the end-to-end anastomotic (EEA) group. Except for the operative time, intraoperative data revealed no significant differences between the studied groups, and the SEA group revealed that the mean anastomotic time was significantly shorter. Perioperative blood loss, length of stay, reoperation, inpatient death, infection, and bleeding were significantly associated with leakage. There is a statistically significant change regarding the range of bowel frequency in the EEA group only (P=0.04). There is a statistically significant difference regarding incontinence for flatus in the SEA group only (P≤0.001). A statistically significant change in both groups regards incontinence for liquid stools (P≤0.001) and clustering of stools (P≤0.001 and P=0.043). The quality of life in the SEA group significantly dropped at 6 months and then returned to baseline as regards to physical well-being (PWB), functional well-being (FWB), and colorectal cancer symptoms (CCS) with no difference as regards SWB and EWB, while in the EEA group, the exact change happened only as regard PWB and FWB, but SWB and CCS percentage did not return to baseline. Conclusion: The SEA group offers a safe alternative approach to the EEA group.

Stable isotope and rare earth element geochemistry of the Baluti carbonates (Upper Triassic), Northern Iraq

Faraj Habeeb Tobia 한국지질과학협의회 2018 Geosciences Journal Vol.22 No.6

Stable isotope ratios of 18O/16O and 13C/12C and rare earth elements geochemistry of the Upper Triassic carbonates from the Baluti Formation in Kurdistan Region of Northern Iraq were studied in two areas, Sararu and Sarki. The aim of the study is to quantify the possible diagenetic processes that postdated deposition and the paleoenvironment of the Baluti Formation. The replacement products of the skeletal grains by selective dissolution and neomorphism probably by meteoric water preserved the original marine isotopic signatures possibly due to the closed system. The petrographic study revealed the existence of foraminifers, echinoderms, gastropods, crinoids, nodosaria and ostracods as major framework constituents. The carbonates have micritic matrix with microsparite and sparry calcite filling the pores and voids. The range and average values for twelve carbonate rocks of δ18O and δ13C in Sararu section were –5.3‰ to –3.16‰ (–4.12‰) and –2.94‰ to –0.96‰ (–1.75‰), respectively; while the corresponding values for the Sarki section were –3.69‰ to –0.39‰ (–2.08‰) and –5.34‰ to –2.70‰ (–4.02‰), respectively. The bivariate plot of δ18O and δ13C suggests that most of these carbonates are warm-water skeletons and have meteoric cement. The average ΣREE content and Eu-anomaly of the carbonates of Sararu sections were 44.26 ppm and 1.03, respectively, corresponding to 22.30 ppm and 0.93 for the Sarki section. The normalized patterns for the carbonate rocks exhibit: (1) non-seawater-like REE patterns, (2) positive Gd anomalies (average = 1.112 for Sararu and 1.114 for Sarki), (3) super chondritic Y/Ho ratio is 31.48 for Sararu and 31.73 for Sarki which are less than the value of seawater. The presence of sparry calcite cement, negative 13C and 18O isotope values, the positive Eu anomaly in the REE patterns (particularly for Sararu), eliminated Ce anomaly (Ce/Ce*: 0.916–1.167, average = 0.994 and 0.950–1.010, average = 0.964, respectively), and Er/Nd values propose that these carbonates have undergone meteoric diagenesis. The REE patterns suggest that the terrigenous materials of the Baluti were derived from felsic to intermediate rocks.

2024 Animal Bioscience Vol.37 No.4

Objective: Our study examined the impact of propriety blends of Bacillus strain probiotics on the performance, egg quality, and faecal microflora of laying hens. Methods: A total of 183 Institut de selection Animale (ISA) brown laying hens aged 23 weeks with an average body weight of 1,894±72 g were randomly allocated into 3 groups as control (corn-soybean meal based diet, CON), 0.5 g/kg Enterosure probiotics (ET1, 3×108 colony-forming unit [CFU]/kg feed), and 5 g/kg Enterosure probiotics (ET2, 3×109 CFU/kg feed) administered in mashed form. At the completion of each phase hen day egg production (HDEP), average egg weight (AEW), feed intake, and faecal microbiota were evaluated. Results: HDEP and AEW were higher (p<0.05) in the ET2-supplemented diet in phase 3 (week 9 to 12) compared with CON. Egg mass (EM) was higher (p<0.05) in phase 2 at ET2, and also higher (p<0.05) in phase 3 at the ET1 and ET2-supplemented diets compared with CON. Feed conversion ratio was lower (p<0.05) in phase 3 at the ET1 and ET2-supplemented diets, with ET2 being the lowest compared with ET1 and CON. Yolk colour was higher (p<0.05) in the ET-supplemented diets at phase 3 compared with CON. Bifidobacterium spp. was higher (p<0.05) in the ET2- supplemented diet compared with CON in phase 2, while in In phase 3, Lactobacillus spp. and Bifidobacterium spp. were higher (p<0.05) in the ET-supplemented diets compared with CON. Coliforms were lower (p<0.05) in the ETsupplemented diets compared with CON in phase 3. Conclusion: The propriety blends of Bacillus strain probiotics supplements at 0.5 g/kg and 5 g/kg could improve the production and quality of eggs with more significance at 5 g/kg for HDEP, AEW and EM, which was achieved via the increase of beneficial microbiomes such as Lactobacillus spp., Bifidobacterium spp., and the decrease of pathogenic microbiomes like Escherichia coli and Coliforms which was speculated to improve gut barrier function and the reproductive hormone.

Estimation of Moisture Damage and Permanent Deformation in Asphalt Mixture from Aggregate Gradation

Haider Habeeb,Satish Chandra,Yassir Nashaat 대한토목학회 2014 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.18 No.6

The present study explains the effect of aggregate gradation on moisture damage in bituminous mixes. Three types of aggregategradation, two types of binder; VG-30 and Polymer modified bitumen (PMB-40) and two types of mixes Bituminous Concrete (BC)and Dense Bituminous Macadam (DBM) are used. Moisture susceptibility tests like retained stability and tensile strength ratio areconducted on Marshall specimens. The static creep test was also conducted for conditioned and unconditioned specimens to observethe effect of moisture on creep behaviour. The results indicate that Marshall stability and flow values are higher in PMB-40 mixesthan in VG-30 mixes. Moisture susceptibility of PMB-40 mixes is low when compared with mix using VG-30. The reduction inretained stability, and Indirect Tensile Strength (ITS) and increase in creep are evaluated for finer, coarser and normal gradation ofaggregates to observe the effect of gradation on moisture susceptibility of mixes. The retained stability is least affected whencompared with other moisture susceptibility parameters. Also, gradation parameters σ1 and Gradation Ratio (GR) are introduced inthis paper to establish relation between aggregate gradation and moisture susceptibility and permanent deformation. Models aresuggested to estimate rut depth from ITS and stability values.

Torsional Strengthening of RC Beams with Continuous Spiral Near-Surface Mounted Steel Wire Rope

Nasih Habeeb Askandar,Abdulkareem Darweesh Mahmood 한국콘크리트학회 2020 International Journal of Concrete Structures and M Vol.14 No.2

The strength of reinforced concrete members can be enhanced using externally bonded reinforcement (EBR) and near surface mounted (NSM) methods. However, small number of studies has adopted the NSM method for torsional strengthening. To date, no study has examined the use of spiral NSM steel wire rope and epoxy adhesives for torsional strengthening. Therefore, this study examines the behaviour of RC beams subjected to the combined actions of torsion and bending moment when they are strengthened with spiral NSM steel wire rope (Ø8 mm) in different configurations. For this purpose, six beams of 15 cm × 25 cm × 200 cm were casted. One of these beams was conventional, whereas all the other beams were strengthened with spiral NSM steel wire rope. During the testing process, the twist angle at the torque intervals, first cracking torque, ultimate torque and ultimate twist angle of the conventional beam were compared with those of the strengthened beams. The torsional performance of the RC beams was significantly improved using spiral NSM steel wire rope in various spiral NSM configurations.
