We have focused on the stress evolution during initial growth stage of Ge nanodots on H-terminated Si(111) 1×1 and Si(111) 7×7corresponding to a StranskiKrastanow growth mode, when the wetting layer thickness approaches the critical value for three-dimen-sional nucleation. In case of the deposition on H-terminated Si(111) 1×1 surface, the rst Ge sub-bilayer shows tensile stress followedby compressive stress. The unique behavior demonstrates the important role of one atomic layer of H termination to control the intrinsicstress for nanodot fabrication.
Weighted geometric mean of n-operators with n-parameters

We shall consider a weighted geometric mean of n-operators with n-parameters. It is based on the geometric mean defined in our previous paper [C. Jung, H. Lee, T. Yamazaki, On a new construction of geometric mean of n-operators, Linear Algebra Appl. 431 (2009) 1477-1488]. Then we shall show that its weights can be obtained by simple forms in the commutative operators case. Some properties of the weighted geometric mean are obtained.

Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of addition of sodium polyacrylate (SPA) to a phytasesupplemented diet on the performance and phosphorus (P) retention of chicks. In experiment 1, chicks were randomly allocated to four dietary treatments which were fed from 7 to 21 days of age: i) basal diet (low nonphytate phosphorus (0.23% NPP)); ii) basal with 250 U/kg diet of phytase; iii) as (ii) with 2.5 g/kg diet of SPA; and iv) as (ii) with 5.0 g/kg diet of SPA. In experiment 2, three replicates, each with three chicks, were fed from 7 to 28 days of age the basal diet (0.23% NPP) with supplementation of phytase (0, 300, 600, 900 U/kg diet) and SPA (0, 2.5 g/kg diet) in a $4{\times}2$ factorial arrangement. In Experiment 1, feed efficiency was improved and excreted P was 10% less with phytase supplementation. However, the addition of SPA did not affect performance or P excretion. Dietary SPA supplementation to the diets showed significantly higher amounts of P retention, and highest values were observed in chicks fed 2.5 g/kg of the SPA-supplemented diet. In Experiment 2, feed efficiency was improved with phytase supplementation, and the addition of SPA showed significant improvement in feed efficiency. Excreted P was significantly lower in chicks fed SPA-supplemented diets, and the retained P coefficient improved with SPA supplementation. In conclusion, the increased transit time of digesta with suitable supplementation levels of SPA may allow phytase activity to be more effective in the degradation of phytate, and improve P retention.

In this paper, an analytical solution for the wave-induced seabed response in a porous seabed is derived. Unlike previous investigations with quasi-static soil behaviour, dynamic soil behaviour is considered in the new solution. The basic one-dimensional framework proposed by Zienkiewicz et al (1980) is extended to two-dimensional cases. Based on the analytical solution derived, the effects of dynamic soil behaviour on the wave-induced seabed response are examined. The boundary of quasi-static soil behaviour and dynamic soil behaviour is clarified, and formulated for engineering practice.

<P>The mouse Period2 (mPer2) locus is an essential negative-feedback element of the mammalian circadian-clock mechanism. Recent work has shown that mPer2 circadian gene expression persists in both central and peripheral tissues. Here, we analyze the mouse mPer2 promoter and identify a circadian enhancer (E2) with a noncanonical 5'-CACGTT-3' E-box located 20 bp upstream of the mPer2 transcription start site. The E2 enhancer accounts for most circadian transcriptional drive of the mPer2 locus by CLOCK:BMAL1, is a major site of DNaseI hypersensitivity in this region, and is constitutively bound by a transcriptional complex containing the CLOCK protein. Importantly, the E2 enhancer is sufficient to drive self-sustained circadian rhythms of luciferase activity in central and peripheral tissues from mPer2-E2::Luciferase transgenic mice with tissue-specific phase and period characteristics. Last, genetic analysis with mutations in Clock and Bmal1 shows that the E2 enhancer is a target of CLOCK and BMAL1 in vivo.</P>
Configuration Dependence of Toroidal Current in Heliotron J

A change of toroidal current by controlling the magnetic configuration has been observed in Heliotron J. The effect of the magnetic configuration on the neoclassical bootstrap current has been theoretically investigated for Heliotron J. It is found that the bumpy field component (B04) plays an important role in changing both the value and the direction of the bootstrap current in Heliotron J. The bootstrap current density is reversed at the small minor radius first, and then the net bootstrap current changes its direction from a positive value to a negative value as B04 decreases.

The measurement of D, CII and CIII line spectral profiles and the CD band spectrum from the vicinity of a test limiter surface is performed in Heliotron J test limiter experiments. With deep insertion of the limiter, there is a localized intense region of the D, CII and CIII line intensity in the limiter surface, and the CD band spectrum is observed at this region. It is considered that the deuterium ion flux and heat load concentrate at this region and enhance carbon impurity generation.r_che
