The scattering cross section is the physical quantity which is susceptible of a reasonably direct experimental measurement and which at the same time lends itself readily to calculation, and which establish contact between scattering theory and scattering experiment to assist each other. We have calculated one-photon free-free absorption cross sections without target distortion at the frequencies of the CO_2, Nd, and ruby lasers, for targets consisting of the ground states of He, Ne, Ar. The calculations yield total cross sections averaged over all orientations of the polarzation, which is taken to be linear. Electron energies are in the range up to about 13 eV. The atomic potential used to represent the interaction of the atom in our calculation is the same one that is replaced atom by the potential used by Robinsion and Geltman in the evaluation of photodetachment cross-sections. We used the Numerov method for numerical integration of our differential equations. This method appears to be most efficient numerical intergration scheme available for second-order differential equations with the first derivative absent.

<P>Plasmonic nanostructures provide as a highly active-SERS substrate that can potentially achieve biomolecules detection. However, the detection of highly diluted, small volume analyte detection remains an urgent problem, due to the diffuse over the hydrophilic surfaces, which far from the plasmonic sensitive areas and limits the SERS detection sensitivity. In this study, we describe the fabrication and characterization of octadecyltrichlorosilane (OTS) capped gold nanodot (Au ND) arrays, the combination of hydrophobic surfaces and nanoplasmonics, and demonstrates their suitability as hydrophobic SERS active substrate for biomedical application. The activity of OTS capped Au ND arrays as SERS substrate was experimentally verified using Rhodamine B as an analyte. This substrate showed 3-fold signal enhancement compared to the ordinary hydrophilic Au ND arrays due to the hydrophobic condensation effect. It is expected that the OTS capped Au ND arrays can be lead to development of a highly sensitive and selective tool for biomedical applications using SERS detection.</P>
Geometry-dependent terahertz emission of silicon nanowires.

<P>THz emission was observed from the vertically aligned silicon nanowire (Si NW) arrays, upon the excitation using a fs Ti-sapphire laser pulse (800 nm). The Si NWs (length = 0.3 ~9 mum) were synthesized by the chemical etching of n-type silicon substrates. The THz emission exhibits significant length dependence; the intensity increases sharply up to a length of 3 mum and then almost saturates. Their efficient THz emission is attributed to strong local field enhancement by coherent surface plasmons, with distinctive geometry dependence.</P>

<P>This study examined the effect of the cross-linking with riboflavin-ultraviolet A (UVA) irradiation on the chemical bonds and ultrastructural changes of human sclera tissues using Raman spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Raman spectroscopy of the normal and cross-linked human sclera tissue revealed different types of the riboflavin-UVA and collagen interactions, which could be identified from their unique peaks, intensity, and shape. Raman spectroscopy can prove to be a powerful tool for examining the chemical bond of collagenous tissues at the molecular level. After riboflavin-UVA treatment, unlike a regular parallel arrangement of normal collagen fibrils, the AFM image revealed interlocking arrangements of collagen fibrils. The observed changes in the surface topography of the collagen fibrils, as well as in their chemical bonds in the sclera tissue, support the formation of interfibrilar cross-links in sclera tissues.</P>
Comparison of Obesity and Dyslimidemia between Giant Embryo Rice Koji and Soybean Koji in Obese Rats

In this study, we compared anti-obesity and lipid-lowering effects between giant embryo rice koji (RK) fermented with Aspergillus oryzae 1354 and soybean koji (SK) fermented with Bacillus amyloliquefaciens CJ 15-6 on rats fed a high-fat diet (HFD), a model for obesity. Five-week-old male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups as follows: regular diet (RD), high-fat diet (HFD), HFD + 3% rice koji (HFD-RK), and HFD + 3% soybean koji (HFD+SK). The body weight gain, liver and visceral fat pad weights, serum TG, LDL-cholesterol, and leptin levels, the aeverage size of the AT were significantly decreased in the HFD-RK and HFD-SK supplementation groups compared with those in the HF group. In addition, RK or SK supplement significantly attenuated the hepatic TG level, the occurrence of fatty liver deposits and steatosis by inhibiting lipogenesis through down-regulation of FAS, ACC, and malic enzyme The anti-obesity and hypolipidemic effects were marginally greater in the HFD-SK group than in the HFD-RK group. These findings indicated that rice koji or soybean koji may have potential for improving some obesity-related parameters in obese rats.

Background: In Korea, there is a high dependency on oriental medicine and folk remedies1. And inaccurate information available through the internet is increasing2. So, there is always a possibility that patients may have difficulty obtaining accurate information about atopic dermatitis(AD). Objectives: To determine the awareness, treatment behavior, and treatment satisfaction of patients with AD and their caregivers. Methods: In October 2017, Patients diagnosed with AD at nine hospitals were enrolled in this study. A questionnaire was completed by each patient. Results: A total of 371 subjects were surveyed. In response to the question asking knowledge about AD, the correct answer rate was 55.4%. Bath, use of soap, use of exfoliant, and use of moisturizer showed favorable outcomes. A total of 54.9% patients responded that they were reluctant to steroid ointment usage. When asked about their previous treatment, 39.6% reported using oriental medicine and 26.5% had tried folk remedies. Hospital treatment satisfaction score was 6.6. Conclusion: Patients usually applied their knowledge in their daily lives. However, there is a lot of inaccurate knowledge. Therefore, it is important for patients to understand the characteristics of this disease and obtain correct information.
LC-MS/MS를 이용한 우유 중 농약 성분 동시 분석법 개발 및 유효성 검증

해마다 연간 우유 소비량이 증가하는 우리나라의 경우, 유해물질 관리와 안전은 더욱 중요하다. 한국작물보호협회에서 자료에 의하면 2014~2018년 농약의 약제별 생산 및 출하 현황 중 살충제가 가장 많은 것으로 보고되어 있다. 카바메이트계 농약은 생물학적 효과가 좋아 살충제, 살균제 및 구충제 등 다양하게 사용되고 있다. 카바메이트계 농약은 일부는 높은 급성 독성을 가지고 있기 때문에 식품에 사용되는 것을 조심해야 하고, 일부 물질의 경우 발암물질을 발생시키고 돌연변이를 야기할 수 있다고 보고되었다. 본 연구에서는 다양한 카바메이트계 농약 중 국내에서 많이 사용되고 있는 살충제의 3가지 농약을 선정하여 우유 원료 중 bendiocarb, carbaryl과 carbofuran 등에 대한 효율적이고 효과적인 분석법을 개발하였고 유효성 검증을 실시하였다. 시료를 무수황산나트륨과 디클로로메탄을 넣고 진탕추출 후 탈수한 뒤 농축하였다. 이를 헥산과 헥산포화아세토니트릴을 이용하여 지방을 제거하고 C18 카트리지를 이용하여 정제 후 LCMS/MS에 주입하여 분석한 결과, bendiocarb, carbaryl 및 carbofuran의 표준원액을 blank를 이용하여 5~100 ng/mL 범위에서 결정계수(r2) 0.999 이상의 직선성을 확인하였다. Bendiocarb의 일내 정밀성은 4.0% 이하, 정확성은 96.2~103.9%, carbaryl의 정밀성은 4.3% 이하, 정확성은 96.9~104.5%, carbofuran의 정밀성은 5.3% 이하, 정확성은 90.9~109.1%로 확인되었고, bendiocarb의 일간 정밀성은 6.5% 이하, 정확성은 90.1~103.7%, carbaryl의 정밀성은 10.5% 이하, 정확성은 95.3~103.3%, carbofuran의 정밀성은 14.8% 이하, 정확성은 94.2~108.5%로 확인되었다. Bendiocarb, carbaryl 및 carbofuran의 평균 회수율은 103.6~110.7%였다. 이때 상대표준편차는 모두 4.9% 이하로 확인되었다. 3가지 성분 각각의 검출한계는 0.8~1.5 ng/mL, 정량한계는 3.0~6.0 ng/mL로 확인되었다. 측정불확도를 산출한 결과 bendiocarb는 14.17±0.82 ㎎/㎏, carbaryl은 14.34±0.91 ㎎/㎏, carbofuran은 14.28±0.79 ㎎/㎏(신뢰수준 95%, K=2)으로 나타났다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 우유 중 bendiocarb, carbaryl 및 carbofuran의 정성 및 정량분석을 위해 유효성이 검증된 동시 분석법을 확립함으로써 향후 우유 중 잔류물질 기준규격 설정 및 관리에 참고 자료가 될 수 있다고 판단된다. Carbamate pesticides are compounds obtained by the reaction of carbamic acid and amine. These pesticides are often used as insecticides and herbicides. Especially, bendiocarb, carbaryl and carbofuran are popular carbamate pesticides LC-MS/MS using liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) and C18 cartridges was used to identify and quantity the levels of bendiocarb, carbaryl and carbofuran in raw material milk with high sensitivity and specificity. A calibration curve was obtained from 5 to 100 ng/mL with a satisfactory correlation coefficient of 0.999. The limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantitation (LOQ) for bendiocarb, carbaryl and carbofuran in the matrix were 0.8 ng/mL to 1.5 ng/mL and 3.0 ng/mL to 6.0 ng/mL, respectively. The recovery of the three pesticides from spiked samples at 15 ng/mL ranged from 103.6 to 110.7% with a relative standard deviation (RSD) between 4.6 to 4.9%. The measurement of uncertainty of the LC-MS/MS method developed for the three pesticides was based on the analytical process and quantification. Thus, the current study has established a fase and easy method for the analysis of bendiocarb, carbaryl and carbofuran in raw material milk by LC-MS/MS.
Leptospira canicola 실험적 감염햄스타의 조직절편내 면역조직화학적 균체항원검출

The present study was done to detect Leptospira canicola antigens in paraffin sections from experimentally infected hamsters with PAP method. The anti-Leptospira canicola serum used as first antibody was prepared by immunizing rabbits with Leptospira canicola. Positive reactions were detected in interstitium, tubular epithelial cells and glomerulus of the kidney, and in the hepatic sinusoid. With PAP method, leptospiral antigens were detected at the 48 hours after bacterial infection, but isolation, silver stain, and dark field microscopic examination of the samples did 48 hours later than PAP method. The results suggested that PAP method is considered as a reliable tool for confirmative diagnosis of this disease.
