      • Activating Transcription Factor 1 is a Prognostic Marker of Colorectal Cancer

        Objective: Identifying cancer-related genes or proteins is critical in preventing and controlling colorectal cancer (CRC). This study was to investigate the clinicopathological and prognostic value of activating transcription factor 1 (ATF1) in CRC. Methods: Protein expression of ATF1 was detected using immunohistochemistry in 66 CRC tissues. Clinicopathological association of ATF1 in CRC was analyzed with chi-square test or Fisher's exact test. The prognostic value of ATF1 in CRC is estimated using the Kaplan-Meier analysis and Cox regression models. Results: The ATF1 protein expression was significantly lower in tumor tissues than corresponding normal tissues (51.5% and 71.1%, respectively, P = 0.038). No correlation was found between ATF1 expression and the investigated clinicopathological parameters, including gender, age, depth of invasion, lymph node status, metastasis, pathological stage, vascular tumoral emboli, peritumoral deposits, chemotherapy and original tumor site (all with P > 0.05). Patients with higher ATF1 expression levels have a significantly higher survival rate than that with lower expression (P = 0.026 for overall survival, P = 0.008 for progress free survival). Multivariate Cox regression model revealed that ATF1 expression and depth of invasion were the predictors of the overall survival (P = 0.008 and P = 0.028) and progress free survival (P = 0.002 and P = 0.005) in CRC. Conclusions: Higher ATF1 expression is a predictor of a favorable outcome for the overall survival and progress free survival in CRC.

      • Repairing Facial Soft Tissue Defects by Swelling Anesthesia after Tumor Resection with Narrow Pedicle Flaps

        Aims: To investigate the role of swelling anesthesia in repairing facial soft tissue defects after tumor resection and temporal superficial artery frontal branch of narrow pedicle flap. Materials and Methods: From January 2008 to June 2008, 16 patients from Department of Ophthalmology with eye or eyelid tumors after eyeball removal of eye and part resection of surrounding soft tissue, undergoing postoperative swelling anesthesia with superficial temporal artery flap repair to prevent facial soft tissue defect formation and bone exposure, were recruited. Results: In all 16 patients facial soft tissue defect repair had good effects, with limited bleeding, and short operation times. Seven days after surgery, all flaps were in good repair. On postoperative follow-up after 3 months, flaps showed a similar appearance as with facial tissue. Conclusions: Swelling anesthesia for superficial temporoparietal artery frontal branch of narrow pedicle flap to repair soft tissue defect after facial tumor resection is feasible, and is linked with good analgesic effects, high postoperative survival of skin flaps, and good cosmetic effects.

        A Novel 3-D Imaging Configuration Exploiting Synthetic Aperture Ladar

        Traditional three-dimensional (3-D) laser imaging systems are based on real aperture imaging technology,whose resolution decreases as the range increases. In this paper, we develop a novel 3-D imaging techniquebased on the synthetic aperture technology in which the imaging resolution is significantly improved anddoes not degrade with the increase of the range. We consider an imaging laser radar (ladar) system usingthe floodlight transmitting mode and multi-beam receiving mode. High 3-D imaging resolutions areachieved by matched filtering the linear frequency modulated (LFM) signals respectively in range, syntheticaperture along-track, and the real aperture across-track. In this paper, a novel 3-D imaging signal modelis given first. Because of the motion during the transmission of a sweep, the Doppler shift induced bythe continuous motion is taken into account. And then, a proper algorithm for the 3-D imaging geometryis given. Finally, simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed technique.

        Cytotoxic Isoflavanones from Uraria clarkei

        Two new isoflavanones, (3R) 5,7,3',4'-tetrahydroxy-2'-methoxyisoflavanone (1) and (3R) 5',8-di-(${\gamma}$,${\gamma}$-dimethylallyl)-2',5-dihydroxyl-4',7-dimethoxyl-isoflavanone (2), were isolated from Uraria clarkei, together with two known compounds dalbergioidin (3), 5,7-dihydroxy-2',4'-dimethoxyisoflavanone (4). The structures involving the absolute configuration of the new compounds were well elucidated by MS, IR, UV, CD, 1D and 2D NMR analyses. Cytotoxicity of the four compounds were assessed, results suggested that compound 2 possessed well cytotoxic activity, against the Hela, K562, and HL60 cell lines with $IC_{50}$ values of 28.0, 40.6 and $35.1{\mu}M$, respectively.

        CT-Guided Microcoil Localization of Small Peripheral Pulmonary Nodules to Direct Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Resection without the Aid of Intraoperative Fluoroscopy

        Objective: To evaluate the feasibility, safety, and effectiveness of CT-guided microcoil localization of solitary pulmonary nodules (SPNs) for guiding video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS). Materials and Methods: Between June 2016 and October 2019, 454 consecutive patients with 501 SPNs who received CTguided microcoil localization before VATS in our institution were enrolled. The diameter of the nodules was 0.93 ± 0.49 cm, and the shortest distance from the nodules to the pleura was 1.41 ± 0.95 cm. The distal end of the microcoil was placed less than 1 cm away from the nodule, and the proximal end was placed outside the visceral pleura. VATS was performed under the guidance of implanted microcoils without the aid of intraoperative fluoroscopy. Results: All 501 nodules were marked with microcoils. The time required for microcoil localization was 12.8 ± 5.2 minutes. Microcoil localization-related complications occurred in 179 cases (39.4%). None of the complications required treatment. A total of 463 nodules were successfully resected under the guidance of implanted microcoils. VATS revealed 38 patients with dislocated microcoils, of which 28 underwent wedge resection (21 cases under the guidance of the bleeding points of pleural puncture, 7 cases through palpation), 5 underwent direct lobectomy, and the remaining 5 underwent a conversion to thoracotomy. In 4 cases, a portion of the microcoil remained in the lung parenchyma. Conclusion: CT-guided microcoil localization of SPNs is safe and reliable. Marking the nodule and pleura simultaneously with microcoils can effectively guide the resection of SPNs using VATS without the aid of intraoperative fluoroscopy.

        Mechanical behavior of rock-coal-rock specimens with different coal thicknesses

        To explore the influence of coal thickness on the mechanical behavior and the failure characteristics of rock-coal-rock (RCR) mass, the experimental investigation of uniaxial compressive tests was conducted first and then a systematic numerical simulation by particle flow code (PFC2D) was performed to deeply analyze the failure mechanical behavior of RCR specimens with different coal thicknesses in conventional compression tests. The overall elastic modulus and peak stress of RCR specimens lie between the rock and the coal. Inter-particle properties were calibrated to match the physical sample strength and the stiffness response. Numerical simulation results show that the deformation and strength behaviors of RCR specimens depend not only on the coal thickness, but also on the confining pressure. Under low confining pressures, the overall failure mechanism of RCR specimen is the serious damage of coal section when the coal thickness is smaller than 30 mm, but it is shear failure of coal section when the coal thickness is larger than 30 mm. Whereas under high confining pressures, obvious shear bands exist in both the coal section and the rock section when the coal thickness is larger than 30 mm, but when the coal thickness is smaller than 30mm, the failure mechanism is serious damage of coal section and shear failure of rock section.

      • Raindrop Category Numerical Modeling on Microphysical Process of Precipitation Formation of Stratiform Cloud in Northern China

        중국 북부지방의 관측자료와 강우 category model을 이용하여 강수 발생의 미세과정과 전형적인 층운 3가지 종류가 형성될 때의 빙정 역할이 분석되었다. 종류 Ⅰ는 강한 전선면의 광범위한 상승에 따른 층운의 형성으로서 강우의 발생은 주로 수증기의 침전과 상층 구름 속 빙정위의 riming과정에 좌우된다. 이때 빙정은 높은 구름에 매우 큰 농도로 존재하여 강수의 형성에 중요한 역할을 하며 이 구름 종류의 seeder-feeder 과정으로 고려된다. 종류 Ⅱ는 저기압 규모의 수렴에 의해 형성되는 층운으로서 riming에 의해 성장되는 빙정과정에 따라 발생되는 강수이다. 종류 Ⅲ은 약한 전선면상에 발생되는 광범위한 상승 기류에 동반되어 낮은 구름층에서 형성된다. 구름 방울들의 충돌과 구름 방울 및 빗방울 사이의 충돌은 이런 강우 형성의 중요 과정임이 밝혀졌다. Based on the observations in northern China, the microphysical process of precipitation formation and the role of ice crystal playing in this process for three kinds of typical stratiform clouds are analyzed using rain category model. Results show that for type one, namely stratiform cloud system formed by widespread lifting of a strong frontal surface, the original formation of rainfall depends mainly on vapor deposition and riming process on ice particles from aloft. Ice crystal has a high number concentration in high level of cloud due to the lower temperature and plays a very important role in the formation of precipitation and shows clearly the "seeder-feeder" process in this kind of cloud; For type two, namely stratiform cloud system produced by cyclonic scale convergence which provides liquid water, the primary precipitation is due to the process of ice crystal growing by riming; Type three is the shallow layer cloud system associated with widespread lifting of a weak frontal surface system.

        Risk Factors for Pulmonary Cement Embolism (PCE) After Polymethylmethacrylate Augmentation: Analysis of 32 PCE Cases

        Objective: Pulmonary cement embolism (PCE) is an underestimated but potentially fatal complication after cement augmentation. Although the treatment and follow-up of PCE have been reported in the literature, the risk factors for PCE are so far less investigated. This study aims to identify the preoperative and intraoperative risk factors for the development of PCE. Methods: A total of 1,373 patients treated with the polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) augmentation technique were retrospectively included. Patients with PCE were divided into vertebral augmentation group and screw augmentation group. Possible risk factors were collected as follows: age, sex, bone mineral density, body mass index, diagnosis, comorbidity, surgical procedure, type of screw, augmented level, number of augmented vertebrae, fracture severity, presence of intravertebral cleft, cement volume, marked leakage in the paravertebral venous plexus, and periods of surgery. Binary logistic regression analyses were used to analyze independent risk factors for PCE. Results: PCE was identified in 32 patients, with an incidence rate of 2.33% (32 of 1,373). For patients who had undergone vertebral augmentation, marked leakage in the paravertebral venous plexus (odds ratio [OR], 1.2; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.1–10.3; p=0.000) and previous surgery (OR, 16.1; 95% CI, 4.2–61.0; p=0.007) were independent risk factors for PCE. Regarding patients who had undergone screw augmentation, the marked leakage in the paravertebral venous plexus (OR, 4.2; 95% CI, 0.5–37.3; p=0.004) was the main risk factor. Conclusion: Marked leakage in the paravertebral venous plexus and previous surgery were significant risk factors related to PCE. Paravertebral leakage and operator experience should be concerned when performing PMMA augmentation.

        Microstructure and tribological properties of ion beam‑modified GO‑reinforced copper matrix composites

        The flaw of low dispersibility in the metal matrix brought on by graphene's full crystal structure can be improved by the application of ion beam radiation to the surface of the material. Copper atoms are uniformly dispersed on the modified graphene oxide ( GOM) surface after being irradiated to a copper ion beam, and during the sputtering modification, the valence state of copper is changed, resulting in the formation of a new CuO phase on the graphene oxide (GO) surface. Therefore, after copper ion beam irradiation of graphene, the interfacial adhesion between GOM and copper matrix is enhanced, and the wear resistance is significantly improved. When the GOM content is low, it can withstand most of the load during the friction and wear test, which reduces the wear of the copper matrix and the occurrence of fatigue cracks at the interface of the composite material.
