      • Genetic Screening for Mutations in the Chip Gene in Intracranial Aneurysm Patients of Chinese Han Nationality

        We performed a case-control study to investigate whether SNPs of CHIP might affect the development of IA in Chinese Han nationality. We believe we are the first to have screened IA patients for mutations in the CHIP gene to determine the association with these variants. The study group comprised 224 Chinese Han nationality patients with at least one intracranial aneurysm and 238 unrelated healthy Han nationality controls. Genomic DNA was isolated from blood leukocytes. The entire coding regions of CHIP were genotyped by PCR amplification and DNA sequencing. Differences in genotype and allele frequencies between patients and controls were tested by the chi-square method. Genotype and allele frequencies of the SNP rs116166850 was demonstrated to be in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. No significant difference in genotype or allele frequencies between case and control groups was detected at the SNP. Our data do not support the hypothesis of a major role for the CHIP gene in IA development in the Chinese Han population.

        Investigation of morphological changes of HPS membrane caused by cecropin B through scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy

        Background: Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) have been identified as promising compounds for consideration as novel antimicrobial agents. Objectives: This study analyzed the efficacy of cecropin B against Haemophilus parasuis isolates through scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) experiments. Results: Cecropin B exhibited broad inhibition activity against 15 standard Haemophilus parasuis (HPS) strains and 5 of the clinical isolates had minimum inhibition concentrations (MICs) ranging from 2 to 16 μg/mL. Microelectrophoresis and hexadecane adsorption assays indicated that the more hydrophobic and the higher the isoelectric point (IEP) of the strain, the more sensitive it was to cecropin B. Through SEM, multiple blisters of various shapes and dents on the cell surface were observed. Protrusions and leakage were detected by AFM. Conclusions: Based on the results, cecropin B could inhibit HPS via a pore-forming mechanism by interacting with the cytoplasmic membrane of bacteria. Moreover, as cecropin B concentration increased, the bacteria membrane was more seriously damaged. Thus, cecropin B could be developed as an effective anti-HPS agent for use in clinical applications.

        The role of extracellular vesicles in osteoarthritis treatment via microenvironment regulation

        Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease that is common among the middle-aged and older populations, causes patients to experience recurrent pain in their joints and negatively affects their quality of life. Currently, therapeutic options for patients with OA consist of medications to alleviate pain and treat the symptoms; however, due to typically poor outcomes, patients with advanced OA are unlikely to avoid joint replacement. In recent years, several studies have linked disrupted homeostasis of the joint cavity microenvironment to the development of OA. Recently, extracellular vesicles (EVs) have received increasing attention in the field of OA. EVs are natural nano-microcarrier materials with unique biological activity that are produced by cells through paracrine action. They are composed of lipid bilayers that contain physiologically active molecules, such as nucleic acids and proteins. Moreover, EVs may participate in local and distal intercellular and intracellular communication. EVs have also recently been shown to influence OA development by regulating biochemical factors in the OA microenvironmental. In this article, we first describe the microenvironment of OA. Then, we provide an overview of EVs, summarize the main types used for the treatment of OA, and describe their mechanisms. Next, we review clinical studies using EVs for OA treatment. Finally, the specific mechanism underlying the application of miRNA-enriched EVs in OA therapy is described.

        Reversibility and safety of KISS1 metastasis suppressor gene vaccine in immunocastration of ram lambs

        Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the reversibility and safety of KISS1 metastasis suppressor (KISS1) gene vaccine in immunocastration. Methods: Six eight-week old ram lambs were randomly divided into vaccinated and control groups. The vaccine (1 mg/ram lamb) was injected at weeks 0, 3, and 6 of the study. Blood samples were collected from the jugular vein before primary immunization and at weeks 2, 4, 6, 10, 14, 22, and 30 after primary immunization. All ram lambs were slaughtered at 38 weeks of age, and samples were collected. Results: The specific anti-KISS1 antibody titers in vaccinated animals were significantly higher and the serum testosterone level was significantly lower than those in the control groups from week 4 to 14 after primary immunization (p<0.05). No significant difference was observed at weeks 22 and 30 after the primary immunization. Similar results were also found for scrotal circumference, testicular weight, length, breadth, and spermatogenesis in seminiferous tubules in week 30 after primary immunization. KS (KISS1-hepatitis B surface antigen S) fusion fragment of KISS1 gene vaccine was not detected in host cell genomic DNA of 9 tissues of the vaccinated ram lambs by polymerase chain reaction. Conclusion: The effects of KISS1 gene vaccine in immunocastration were reversible and no integration events were recorded.

      • Prognostic Significance of Beclin-1 Expression in Colorectal Cancer: a Meta-analysis

        Objective: Beclin-1 has recently been observed as an essential marker of autophagy in several cancers. However, the prognostic role of Beclin-1 in colorectal neoplasia remains controversial. Our study aimed to evaluate the potential association between Beclin-1 expression and the outcome of colorectal cancer patients. Materials and Methods: All related studies were systematically searched in Pubmed, Embase, Springer and Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure databases (CNKI), and then a meta-analysis was performed to determine the association of Beclin-1 expression with clinical outcomes. Finally, a total of 6 articles were included in our analysis. Results: Our data showed that high Beclin-1 expression in patients with CRC was associated with poor prognosis in terms of tumor distant metastasis (OR=2.090, 95%CI=1.061-4.119, p=0.033) and overall survival (RR=1.422, 95%CI=1.032-1.959, p=0.031). However, we did not found any correlation between Beclin-1 over-expression and tumor differentiation (OR=1.711, 95%CI=0.920-3.183, p=0.090). In addition, there was no evidence of publication bias as suggested by Egger's tests for tumor distant metastasis (p=1.000), differentiation (p=1.000) and OS (p=0.308). Conclusions: Our present meta-analysis indicated that elevated Beclin-1 expression iss associated with tumor metastasis and a poor prognosis in patients with CRC. Beclin-1 might serve as an efficient prognostic indicator in CRC, and could be a new molecular target in CRC therapy.

        Buckling analysis of filament wound composite cylindrical shell for considering the filament undulation and crossover

        The buckling equations of filament wound composite cylindrical shell are established. The coefficients Kij and Lij of the buckling equations are determined by solving the equations. The geometric analysis and the effective stiffness calculation for the fiber crossover and undulation region are respectively accomplished. Using the effective stiffness of the undulation region, the specific formulas of the coefficients Kij and Lij of the buckling equations are determined. Numerical examples of the buckling critical loads have been performed for the different winding angles and stacking sequences cylindrical shell designs. It can be concluded that the fiber undulation results in the less effect on the buckling critical loads Pcr. Pcr increases with the thickness-radius ratio. The effect on Pcr due to the fiber undulation is more obvious with the thickness-radius ratio. Pcr decreases with the length-radius ratio. The effect on Pcr due to the fiber undulation can be neglected when the ratio is large.

        The Influence of Industrial Upgrade in ‘Belt and Road’ Host countries on China’s OFDI Flow

        In recent years, as the largest developing country and G2, China’s OFDI scale has been expanding, and its flow pattern and characteristics have also become an important aspect of academic research. Based on this, this paper uses panel data of 7 ‘Belt and Road’ Southeast Asian countries from 2003 to 2017 and introduces structural indicators of host countries to analyze the impact of Industrial upgrade of host countries on the flow direction of China’s OFDI. As a Result, we find that China’s OFDI has the preference of “low value-added industry”, “low GDP per capita” and “high total factor productivity”. The acceleration of industrial upgrading in the host country will lead to the decrease of China’s direct investment onto the country in the medium and long term, and make China’s OFDI flow to countries with a worse industrial structure.

        Over-expression of GmHAL3 modulates salt stresses tolerance in transgenic arabidopsis

        The halotolerance protein HAL3, also known as SIS2, is a yeast protein that regulates the cell cycle and tolerance to salt stress through inhibition of the Ppz1 type 1 protein phosphatase. Although the roles of HAL3 have been demonstrated during the growth, development, and stress adaptation of Arabidopsis thaliana and Nicotiana tabacum, the function of HAL3 in other plant species, including soybean (Glycine max), has not been elucidated. In this study, GmHAL3a and GmHAL3b were isolated from Glycine max, and their roles were analyzed. GmHAL3a and GmHAL3b transcripts were detected in the roots, stems, leaves and seeds, with higher levels in the roots, and were induced by sodium chloride (NaCl), lithium chloride (LiCl), sorbitol, cold and ABA treatment. Overexpression of GmHAL3a or GmHAL3b in Arabidopsis accelerated the onset of flowering and resulted in more vigorous seed germination and increased tolerance to NaCl, LiCl, and sorbitol stress in seedlings, compared with wild type (WT) and empty vector control (VC) plants. Transgenic Arabidopsis plants accumulated proline and eliminated superoxide radical (O2 −) in response to the stress. In addition, transcription levels of the stress-related genes RD22 and P5CS1 were substantially higher in transgenic Arabidopsis than in WT and VC plants. Taken together, the data indicate that GmHAL functions as a positive regulator of the response to salt, lithium cations and sorbitol stress.

        인쇄 광고에서 표현된 엔트로피의 상호텍스트성에 관한 연구 : 세 가지 상호텍스트성 인쇄 광고를 중심으로

        본 연구에서 엔트로피와 상호텍스트성 이론을 바탕으로 인쇄 광고에서의 시각 정보, 정보 엔트로피과 상호텍스트성을 연관을 지어 연구를 진행하였다. 정보 엔트로피 이론에 따르면 광고에 시각 정보가 많을수록 무질서하게 되고 엔트로피값이 높아진다. 반면에 시각 정보가 적을수록 질서있게 되고 엔트로피값이 낮아진다. 또한, 본 연구에서 미국 철학자인 피어스의 세 가지 기호에 따라 광고를 기호적 상호텍스트성 광고, 지표적 상호텍스트성 광고, 상징적 상호텍스트성 광고로 분류하여 고찰하였다. 이 세 가지 상호텍스트성 광고에 관한 사례 분석을 통해 인쇄 광고에서의 엔트로피를 고찰하였다. 사례 분석을 통해 다음과 같은 결론을 도출하였다. 기호적 상호텍스트성 광고의 경우 시각적 기호와 광고 대상 간의 직접적인 시각적 연관을 통해 상호텍스트성 효과를 나타냈다. 지표적 상호텍스트성 광고의 경우 시각적 기호와 광고 대상 간의 암시적인 시각적 연관을 통해 상호텍스트성 효과를 나타냈다. 상징적 상호텍스트성 광고의 경우 관련 없는 시각적 기호와 광고 대상이 논리적 관행이나 법칙을 통해 상호텍스트성 효과를 나타났다. 이 세 가지 광고의 디자인 과정은 정보에 관한 정리 과정으로 볼 수 있는데 혼란 정도 즉 엔트로피를 줄이는 과정이다. 광고 디자인은 상호텍스트성의 디자인 기법을 통해 시각 정보를 효율적으로 통합하고 엔트로피값을 낮춤으로써 시각 정보를 효과적으로 수용자에게 전달한다. 디자이너는 이런 시각 정보, 엔트로피, 상호텍스트성에 대한 정리를 통해 보다 깊이 있고 수용자에게 쉽게 이해할 수 있는 광고를 만들 수 있다. Based on the theories of entropy and intertextuality, this research links the visual information, information entropy and intertextuality in print advertising works. According to the information entropy theory, it can be concluded that the more visual information in the advertisement, the more disordered it is, the greater the entropy value will be. On the contrary, the less visual information, the more orderly it is, the smaller the entropy value will be. In addition, according to the semiotics trinity theory of American philosopher Pierce, this paper divides advertisements into icon intertextual advertising, index intertextual advertising and symbol intertextual advertising. The following conclusions are drawn through case analysis: Icon intertextual advertising achieves intertextual effects through the direct visual connection between visual symbols and advertising objects. index intertextual advertising achieves intertextual effects through the less obvious visual connection between visual symbols and advertising objects. symbol intertextual advertising is the intertextual effect of unrelated visual symbols and advertising objects through logical conventions or rules. These three advertising design processes can be considered as information integration and reduction of confusion, that is to say, the process of entropy reduction. Intertextuality design approach in advertisement design can efficiently integrate visual information and reduce entropy to achieve the effect of efficiently conveying visual information to the audience. This application of visual information, entropy, and intertextuality can enable designers to create deeper and more understandable advertisements.
