Condensed Cramer rule for computing a kind of restricted matrix equation

Chao Gu,Zhaoliang Xu 한국전산응용수학회 2008 Journal of applied mathematics & informatics Vol.26 No.5

The problem of finding Cramer rule for solutions of some restricted linear equation Ax = b has been widely discussed. Recently Wang and Qiao consider the following more general problem AXB = D, R(X) ⊂ T, N(X) ⊃ S. They present the solution of above general restricted matrix equation by using generalized inverses and give an explicit expression for the elements of the solution matrix for the matrix equation. In this paper we re-consider the restricted matrix equation and give an equivalent matrix equation to it. Through the equivalent matrix equation, we derive condensed Cramer rule for above restricted matrix equation. As an application, condensed determinantal expressions for A(2)T,S A and AA(2) T,S are established. Based on above results, we present a method for computing the solution of a kind of restricted matrix equation. • An Antiviral Mechanism Investigated with Ribavirin as an RNA Virus Mutagen for Foot-and-mouth Disease Virus

Gu, Chao-Jiang,Zheng, Cong-Yi,Zhang, Qian,Shi, Li-Li,Li, Yong,Qu, San-Fu Korean Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biol 2006 Journal of biochemistry and molecular biology Vol.39 No.1

To prove whether error catastrophe /lethal mutagenesis is the primary antiviral mechanism of action of ribavirin against foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV). Ribavirin passage experiments were performed and supernatants of $Rp_1$ to $Rp_5$ were harvested. Morphological alterations as well as the levels of viral RNAs, proteins, and infectious particles in the BHK-21 cells infected using the supernatants of $Rp_1$ to $Rp_5$ and control were measured by microscope, real-time RT-PCR, western-blotting and plaque assays, respectively. The mutation frequency was measured by sequencing the complete P1- and 3D-encoding region of FMDV after a single round of virus infection from ribavirin-treated or untreated FMDV-infected cells. Ribavirin treatment for FMDV caused dramatically inhibition of multiplication in cell cultures. The levels of viral RNAs, proteins, and infectious particles in the BHK-21 cells infected were more greatly reduced along with the passage from $Rp_1$ to $Rp_5$, moreover, nucleocapsid protein could not be detected and no recovery of infectious virus in the supernatant or detection of intracellular viral RNA was observed at the $Rp_5$-infected cells. A high mutation rate, giving rise to an 8-and 11-fold increase in mutagenesis and resulting in some amino acid substitutions, was found in viral RNA synthesized at a single round of virus infection in the presence of ribavirin of $1000\;{\mu}M$ and caused a 99.7% loss in viral infectivity in contrast with parallel untreated control virus. These results suggest that the antiviral molecular mechanism of ribavirin is based on the lethal mutagenesis/error catastrophe, that is, the ribavirin is not merely an antiviral reagent but also an effective mutagen.

YAP/TAZ-Mediated Upregulation of GAB2 Leads to Increased Sensitivity to Growth Factor–Induced Activation of the PI3K Pathway

        Wang, Chao,Gu, Chao,Jeong, Kang Jin,Zhang, Dong,Guo, Wei,Lu, Yiling,Ju, Zhenlin,Panupinthu, Nattapon,Yang, Ji Yeon,Gagea, Mihai (Mike),Ng, Patrick Kwok Shing,Zhang, Fan,Mills, Gordon B. American Association for Cancer Research 2017 Cancer Research Vol.77 No.7

Interactions between HIPPO, YAP/TAZ, and the PI3K/AKT pathway may be therapeutically targetable, providing new approaches to treating endometrial cancers and other cancers where the HIPPO pathway is a core oncogenic driver.

The transcription regulators YAP and TAZ function as effectors of the HIPPO signaling cascade, critical for organismal development, cell growth, and cellular reprogramming, and YAP/TAZ is commonly misregulated in human cancers. The precise mechanism by which aberrant YAP/TAZ promotes tumor growth remains unclear. The HIPPO tumor suppressor pathway phosphorylates YAP and TAZ, resulting in cytosolic sequestration with subsequent degradation. Here, we report that the PI3K/AKT pathway, which is critically involved in the pathophysiology of endometrial cancer, interacts with the HIPPO pathway at multiple levels. Strikingly, coordinate knockdown of YAP and TAZ, mimicking activation of the HIPPO pathway, markedly decreased both constitutive and growth factor–induced PI3K pathway activation by decreasing levels of the GAB2 linker molecule in endometrial cancer lines. Furthermore, targeting YAP/TAZ decreased endometrial cancer tumor growth in vivo. In addition, YAP and TAZ total and phosphoprotein levels correlated with clinical characteristics and outcomes in endometrial cancer. Thus, YAP and TAZ, which are inhibited by the HIPPO tumor suppressor pathway, modify PI3K/AKT pathway signaling in endometrial cancer. The cross-talk between these key pathways identifies potential new biomarkers and therapeutic targets in endometrial cancer. Cancer Res; 77(7); 1637–48. ©2017 AACR.

Effect of BiFeO3 addition on Bi2O3–ZnO–Nb2O5 based ceramics

        Xiaolian Chao,Zupei Yang,Chao Kang,Rui Gu 한국물리학회 2010 Current Applied Physics Vol.10 No.1

In this paper, low temperature sintering of the Bi2(Zn1/3Nb2/3)2O7 (b-BZN) dielectric ceramics was studied with the use of BiFeO3 as a sintering aid. The effects of BiFeO3 contents and the sintering temperature on the phase structure, density and dielectric properties were investigated. The results showed that the sintering temperature could be decreased and the dielectric properties could be retained by the addition of BiFeO3. The structure of BiFeO3 doped b-BZN was still the monoclinic pyrochlore phase. The sintering temperature of BiFeO3 doped b-BZN ceramics was reduced from 1000 ℃ to 920 ℃. In the case of 0.15wt.% BiFeO3 addition, the b-BZN ceramics sintered at 920 ℃ exhibited good dielectric properties, which were listed as follows: εr = 79 and tan δ = 0.00086 at a frequency of 1 MHz. The obtained properties make this composition to be a good candidate for the LTCC application.

Laparoscopic hepatectomy for the treatment of Caroli’s disease: a case report

        Chao-bo Chen,Wei-dong Hu,Wan-wen Zhao,Yan-yan Gu,Hong-wei Hou,Zheng Pan 대한외과학회 2018 Annals of Surgical Treatment and Research(ASRT) Vol.94 No.3

Caroli disease is a rare congenital disorder characterized by nonobstructive dilatation of intrahepatic ducts. In cases with symptomatic intrahepatic manifestations, treatment should correspond to the type with hepatic resection for localized disease and transplantation for diffuse forms. If possible, complete resection of the cysts can cure the symptoms and avoid the risk of malignancy. A 66-year-old woman presented to Wuxi Xishan People's Hospital with recurrent intermittent upper quadrant abdominal pain. Further examinations suggested the diagnosis of Caroli disease limited to the left hepatic lobe. She underwent laparoscopic hepatectomy. Pathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of Caroli disease, and no malignancy was found. There were no immediate complications and no long-term complications after one and one-half years of follow-up. Laparoscopic hepatectomy could be a feasible, safe treatment option for localized Caroli disease

Elongation Prediction of Steel-Strips in Annealing Furnace with Deep Learning via Improved Incremental Extreme Learning Machine

        Chao Wang,Jian-Hui Wang,Shu-Sheng Gu,Xiao Wang,Yu-Xian Zhang 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2017 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.15 No.3

The elongation of steel-strips in annealing furnace is an important factor that affects the position ofwelding line and safety of air-knife since there is no extra space to install welding line detector in field conditions. Therefore, predicting the elongation of steel-strips in the annealing process is important to fulfill the requirementsof eliminating security risks and improving economic performance. In this paper, we propose a deep architecturescalled I-ELM/MLCSA autoencoders with the concept of stacked generalization philosophy to solve large and complexdata mining problems. The comparison results of the case studies indicate that D-ELMs-AE/MLCSA is apromising prediction algorithm and can be employed for steel-strips elongation predictions with excellent performance.

      • Applicative Value of Serum CA19-9, CEA, CA125 and CA242 in Diagnosis and Prognosis for Patients with Pancreatic Cancer Treated by Concurrent Chemoradiotherapy

        Gu, Yu-Lei,Lan, Chao,Pei, Hui,Yang, Shuang-Ning,Liu, Yan-Fen,Xiao, Li-Li Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.15

Objective: To evaluate the application value of serum CA19-9, CEA, CA125 and CA242 in diagnosis and prognosis of pancreatic cancer cases treated with concurrent chemotherapy. Materials and Methods: 52 patients with pancreatic cancer, 40 with benign pancreatic diseases and 40 healthy people were selected. The electrochemiluminescence immunoassay method was used for detecting levels of CA19-9, CEA and CA125, and a CanAg CA242 enzyme linked immunoassay kit for assessing the level of CA242. The Kaplan-Meier method was used for analyzing the prognostic factors of patients with pancreatic cancer. The Cox proportional hazard model was applied for analyzing the hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidential interval (CI) for survival time of patients with pancreatic cancer. Results: The levels of serum CA19-9, CEA, CA125 and CA242 in patients with pancreatic cancer were significantly higher than those in patients with benign pancreatic diseases and healthy people (P<0.001). The sensitivity of CA19-9 was the highest among these, followed by CA242, CA125 and CEA. The specificity of CA242 is the highest, followed by CA125, CEA and CA19-9. The sensitivity and specificity of joint detection of serum CA19-9, CEA, CA125and CA242 were 90.4% and 93.8%, obviously higher than single detection of those markers in diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. The median survival time of 52 patients with pancreatic cancer was 10 months (95% CI7.389~12.611).. Patients with the increasing level of serum CA19-9, CEA, CA125, CA242 had shorter survival times (P=0.047. 0.043, 0.0041, 0.029). COX regression analysis showed that CA19-9 was an independent prognostic factor for patients with pancreatic cancer (P=0.001, 95%CI 2.591~38.243). Conclusions: The detection of serum tumor markers (CA19.9, CEA, CA125 and CA242) is conducive to the early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer and joint detection of tumor markers helps improve the diagnostic efficiency. Moreover, CA19-9 is an independent prognostic factor for patients with pancreatic cancer.

BMB Reports : Poly(ADP-ribose) protects vascular smooth muscle cells from oxidative DNA damage

        ( Chao Zhang ),( Tao Luo ),( Shijun Cui ),( Yongquan Gu ),( Chunjing Bian ),( Yibin Chen ),( Xiaochun Yu ),( Zhonggao Wang ) 생화학분자생물학회(구 한국생화학분자생물학회) 2015 BMB Reports Vol.48 No.6

Vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) undergo death during atherosclerosis, a widespread cardiovascular disease. Recent studies suggest that oxidative damage occurs in VSMCs and induces atherosclerosis. Here, we analyzed oxidative damage repair in VSMCs and found that VSMCs are hypersensitive to oxidative damage. Further analysis showed that oxidative damage repair in VSMCs is suppressed by a low level of poly (ADP-ribosyl)ation (PARylation), a key post-translational modification in oxidative damage repair. The low level of PARylation is not caused by the lack of PARP-1, the major poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase activated by oxidative damage. Instead, the expression of poly(ADP-ribose) glycohydrolase, PARG, the enzyme hydrolyzing poly(ADP-ribose), is significantly higher in VSMCs than that in the control cells. Using PARG inhibitor to suppress PARG activity facilitates oxidative damage-induced PARylation as well as DNA damage repair. Thus, our study demonstrates a novel molecular mechanism for oxidative damage-induced VSMCs death. This study also identifies the use of PARG inhibitors as a potential treatment for atherosclerosis.
