Estimation of the parameters of a Wishart extension on symmetric matrices

This paper deals with the parameters of a natural extension of the Wishart distribution, that is the Riesz distribution on the space of symmetric matrices. We estimate the shape parameter using two different approaches. The first one is based on the method of moments, we give its expression and investigate some of its properties. The second represents the maximum likelihood estimator. Unfortunately, in this case we do not have an explicit formula for this estimator. This latter is expressed in terms of the digamma function and sample mean of log-gamma variables. However, we derive the strong consistency and asymptotic normality properties of this estimator. A numerical comparative study between the two estimators is carried out in order to test the performance of the proposed approaches. For the second parameter, that is the scale parameter, we prove that the distribution of the maximum likelihood estimator given by Kammoun et al. (J Statist Prob Lett 126:127–131, 2017) is related to the Riesz distribution. We examine some properties concerning this estimator and we assess its performance by a numerical study.

In [6], it is proved that the lengths of periods occurring in the β-expansion of a rational series r noted by Perβ(r) depend only on the denominator of the reduced form of r for quadratic Pisot unit series. In this paper, we will show first that every rational r in the unit disk has strictly periodic β-expansion for Pisot or Salem unit basis under some condition. Second, for this basis, if r = P/Q is written in reduced form with |P| < |Q|, we will generalize the curious property “Perβ(P/Q) = Perβ(1/Q)”.

Forearm fractures are common injuries in childhood. Median nerve entrapment is a rare complication of forearm fractures, but several cases have been reported in the literature. This case report discusses the diagnosis and management of median nerve entrapment in a 13-year-old male who presented acutely with a both-bone forearm fracture and numbness in the median nerve distribution. Following the delayed diagnosis, surgical exploration revealed complete nerve entrapment and a nerve graft was performed.

New MoO3 or WO3 modified CeO2-ZrO2 aerogel catalysts were elaborated using the sol gel methodcombined to supercritical drying for the NO-SCR by NH3 in excess of O2. XRD, N2-Physisorption, NH3-TPD,H2-TPR and DRUV-Vis spectroscopy were used to analyse the samples. The results reveal that all theaerogel powders (ZrO2, CeO2-ZrO2, MoO3-ZrO2, WO3-ZrO2, MoO3-CeO2-ZrO2 and WO3-CeO2-ZrO2),calcined at 500 C, are nanostructured and mesoporous materials, developing essentially the diffractionpeaks of the ZrO2 tetragonal phase, which was stabilized by the presence of cerium. Ce, Mo and W specieswere found highly dispersed on the zirconia surface, their nature and the diverse interactions developedbetween them affect the crystallites size of ZrO2, acidity, reducibility, surface oxygen mobility of catalystsand influence extremely their SCR activity. Higher NO-SCR performances are obtained, between 200 and500 C, over the new ternary MoO3-CeO2-ZrO2 and WO3-CeO2-ZrO2 catalysts compared to correspondingbinary systems (CeO2-ZrO2, MoO3-ZrO2 and WO3-ZrO2). This discloses a synergism in the NO-SCR relatedto the existence of strong interactions Ce$Mo and Ce$W. Interestingly, above 90 % NO conversions intoessentially N2 (97 %) are achieved between 350 and 500 C over the most efficient MoO3-CeO2-ZrO2ternary catalyst.
Mix Design and Properties of Recycled Aggregate Concretes

This work is devoted to the study of fresh and hardened properties of concrete containing recycled gravel. Four formulations were studied, the concrete of reference and three concretes containing recycled gravel with 30, 65 and 100 % replacement ratios. All materials were formulated on the basis of S4 class of flowability and a target C35 class of compressive strength according to the standard EN 206-1. The paper first presents the mix design method which was based on the optimization of cementitious paste and granular skeleton, then discusses experimental results. The results show that the elastic modulus and the tensile strength decrease while the peak strain in compression increases. Correlation with the water porosity is also established. The validity of analytical expressions proposed by Eurocode 2 is also discussed. The obtained results, together with results from the literature, show that these relationships do not predict adequately the mechanical properties as well as the stress?strain curve of tested materials. New expressions were established to predict the elastic modulus and the peak strain from the compressive strength of natural concrete. It was found that the proposed relationship E?fc is applicable for any type of concrete while the effect of substitution has to be introduced into the stress?strain (ec1?fc) relationship for recycled aggregate concrete. For the full stress?strain curve, the model of Carreira and Chu seems more adequate.
Dynamic User Interface Design in Pervasive Assistive Environment

This paper describes a novel approach based on the user interface presentation of unknown services within a pervasive environment dedicated to dependant people. The idea is to map the heterogeneity of the environment objects into abstracted service. At the level of the user interface, this will allow the personalization and the adaptation based on user’s requirements. Service provision has to be effective and performed according to current context particularly when focusing on people with special needs. The proposed Service Model (SM) supports the diversity of existing pervasive services and their content, the personalization and adaptation to both user and device profile, and the contextaware discovery in visited environment. We tested our architecture with the use of the TV as an interaction mean to interact with proposed services. The graphical interface deployed on the TV was evaluated by elderly people and resulting ergonomic recommendations. This research activity is ongoing work within the Nuadu project.
Parametric identification of handwriting system based on RLS algorithm

This paper deals with parametric identification based on Recursive Least Squares algorithm (RLS) to describe the human handwriting process. The electromyographic EMG signals records of muscle activities in the forearm during handwriting movements contain the adequate information to present this biological process.So, the handwriting process can be described from the relationship between EMG signals and the pen-tip movement. An experimental approach has been carried out to measure the forearm EMG signals and the pen-tip displacements on writing some of fundamental drawing and Arabic letters.These measurements are used to identify the handwriting process. In this research, a new fourth order, linear model is proposed to identify handwriting process. Good qualitative and quantitative agreement was found between traces and trajectories calculated with identified system.
