Explants of button daisy were screened for their regeneration potential and transient GUS gene expression. Medium containing MS salts minerals and $B_5$ vitamins supplemented with $0.1\;\cal{mg/L}$ BA and $0.1\;\cal{mg/L}$ TDZ showed the best regeneration. Disc florets and receptacles were the most responsive explants in regeneration and transient gene expression respectively. Regenerated plants were successfully rooted and established in the green-house conditions. Infection and co-cultivation of explants with Agrobacterium tumefaciens containing pCAMBIA 1301 resulted in transient GUS foci. Among the different explants, receptacles showed the highest percentage of transient GUS gene expression. Enzymatic and molecular analyses of transformed calli confirmed the integration of GUS gene.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>We have measured the proton energy distribution from the <SUP>4</SUP>He(stopped <SUP>K−</SUP>,p) reaction by means of time-of-flight. A mono-energetic peak was observed, which is interpreted as the formation of a new kind of neutral tribaryon S<SUP>0</SUP>(3115) with isospin T=1 and strangeness S=−1. The mass and width of the state were deduced to be 3117.0−4.4+1.5MeV/<SUP>c2</SUP> and <21MeV/<SUP>c2</SUP>, respectively. The state mainly decays into ΣNN.</P>
Three-Dimensional Microstructural Modelling of Wear, Crack Initiation and Growth in Rail Steel

Rolling-sliding, cyclic contact of wheel and rail progressively alters the microstructure of the contacting steels, eventually leading to micro-scale crack initiation, wear and macro-scale crack growth in the railhead. Relating the microstructural changes to subsequent wear and cracking is being accomplished through modelling at three spatial scales: (i) bulk material (ii) multi-grain and (iii) sub-grain. The models incorporate detailed information from metallurgical examinations of used rails and tested rail material. The initial 2-dimensional models representing the rail material are being further developed into 3-dimensional models. Modelling is taking account of thermal effects, and traffic patterns to which the rails are exposed.

This study extends previous research by comparing banks across European Union (EU) accession and non-accession countries of central-eastern Europe in order to detect differences that perhaps have implications related to policy prescriptions for joining the EU. Using commercial banking data from 17 centraleastern European countries for 2000-04, the period leading up to the EU accessions of 2004 and 2007, a multiproduct translog cost function approach reveals that banks in accession countries generally display stronger input substitutability across capital, labor and deposits than that displayed by banks in non-accession countries. The implication regarding the higher substitutability between capital and labor in EU accession countries is lower banking industry employment in those countries after EU accession. Bank deposits are also substitutes for labor, reflecting the substantial impact of international competition and technological advancements in the industry. As a result of these relationships, pre-accession preparation for the forthcoming banking industry changes may be necessary in some instances.
