Co3(PO4)2-Coated LiV3O8 as Positive Materials for Rechargeable Lithium Batteries

Co3(PO4)2-coated LiV3O8 has been successfully synthesized and used as positive material for rechargeable lithium batteries by a facile liquid phase method. The as-prepared powders were characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), and the galvanostatic discharge/charge experiments. As-prepared Co3(PO4)2-coated LiV3O8 forms a good layered structure with a poor cyrstallinity. SEM reveals that Co3(PO4)2-coated LiV3O8 has uniform particle distribution and reduced particle size when compared with bare one. The Co3(PO4)2 coating layer is about 33 - 59 nm forming a continuous lumps attached to LiV3O8 particle surface. Co3(PO4)2-coated LiV3O8 electrode shows increased capacity and more stable cycling. The first and 35th discharge capacities of the Co3(PO4)2-coated LiV3O8electrode are 322.8 mAh g−1 and 235.7 mAh g−1 in the range of 4.0 - 1.8 V at a current rate of 30 mA g−1, respectively. The improved electrochemical performance is assigned to the greatly reduced LiV3O8 particle with uniform morphology. Co3(PO4)2-coating further benefits the phase transitions of LiV3O8 during discharge/charge while preventing parasite reactions between electrode surface and electrolyte.
Risk Structure Analysis for Cost of Capital : A Demonstrative Study using Financial Indices

Economic value added (EVA) is introduced on two levels: as index for evaluation of corporation and as index for evaluation of business unit. In the latter case, application of one and the same cost of capital to all business units of a business corporation may be possible, but it is a fundamental policy for EVA to apply different cost of capital to business units with different risks. Estimate of cost of capital of business units is a problem to be resolved. The author, focusing on the question of the estimate of cost of capital of business units, has conducted a demonstrative study on risk structure of cost of capital estimates by using financial indices of Japanese manufacturers (37 automotive industries, 141 electrical and electronic machinery industries, 63 food processing industries, 98 chemical industries, 125 general machinery industries) for a period of 5 years from 1995 to 1999. The author presumes that $\beta$ is explained by a regression formula ${\beta}=B_0+{\Sigma}B_iY_i+{\alpha}$ ($Y_i$: financial indices) and selects 40 explanatory variables from financial statements as risk components. Using their financial indices, the author concludes through a series of statistical analyses that there is a good likelihood of estimating cost of capital for Japanese industries and is convinced that it will lead to more reliable and practical results by assigning averages and variances to 40 primary financial indices for a period of 3 to 5 years selected in this demonstrative study.
Effects of Channel Electron In-Plane Velocity on the Capacitance-Voltage Curve of MOS Devices

The coupling between the transverse and longitudinal components of the channel electron motion in NMOS devices leads to a reduction in the barrier height. Therefore, this study theoretically investigates the effects of the in-plane velocity of channel electrons on the capacitance-voltage characteristics of nano NMOS devices under inversion bias. Numerical calculation via a self-consistent solution to the coupled Schrödinger equation and Poisson equation is used in the investigation. The results demonstrate that such a coupling largely affects capacitance-voltage characteristic when the in-plane velocity of channel electrons is high. The ballistic transport ensures a high in-plane momentum. It suggests that such a coupling should be considered in the quantum capacitance-voltage modeling in ballistic transport devices.

The effects of the antisite related defects on the electronic structure of silica and the gate leakage current have been investigated using first-principles calculations. Energy levels related to the antisite defects in silicon dioxide have been introduced into the bandgap, which are nearly 2.0 eV from the top of the valence band. Combining with the electronic structures calculated from first-principles simulations, tunneling currents through the silica layer with antisite defects have been calculated. The tunneling current calculations show that the hole tunneling currents assisted by the antisite defects will be dominant at low oxide field whereas the electron direct tunneling current will be dominant at high oxide field. With increased thickness of the defect layer, the threshold point where the hole tunneling current assisted by antisite defects in silica is equal to the electron direct tunneling current extends to higher oxide field.

Drain-induced barrier lowering (DIBL) is one of the main parameters employed to indicate the short-channel effect for nano metal-oxide semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs). We propose a new physical model of the DIBL effect under two-dimensional approximations based on the energy-conservation equation for channel electrons in FETs, which is different from the former field-penetration model. The DIBL is caused by lowering of the effective potential barrier height seen by the channel electrons because a lateral channel electric field results in an increase in the average kinetic energy of the channel electrons. The channel length, temperature, and doping concentration-dependent DIBL effects predicted by the proposed physical model agree well with the experimental data and simulation results reported in Nature and other journals.
Analyses on the Pricing Factors from a Case Study of Light Trucks

The purpose of this paper is to clarify analytically the relation between the characteristics and the pricing of the products of individual manufacturers, so we can offer beneficial information for designing and developing products. Light trucks of 1 ton to 4 ton have been taken up as examples. We carried out analyses based on the information on the evaluations of the functional characteristics by surveying the specifications obtained from light truck catalogues.

Monte Carlo simulations show that, as temperature increases, the average kinetic energy of channel electrons in a GaN transistor first decreases and then increases. According to the calculations, the relative energy change reaches 40%. This change leads to a reduced barrier height due to quantum coupling among the three-dimensional motions of channel electrons. Thus, an analysis and physical model of the gate leakage current that includes drift velocity is proposed. Numerical calculations show that the negative and positive temperature dependence of gate leakage currents decreases across the barrier as the field increases. They also demonstrate that source–drain voltage can have an effect of 1 to 2 orders of magnitude on the gate leakage current. The proposed model agrees well with the experimental results.

Flower-like and plate-like CuO nanopowder has been successfully synthesized using a facile microwave-assisted synthetic route. The morphology and size of the final products strongly depended on microwave power. The phase, structures and morphologies of the as-prepared products were investigated in detail by BET surface area analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In addition, the chemical oxygen demand of polluted lake water was employed for characterization of these new photocatalysts. The results showed correlations between the morphology of CuO micro-crystals and their catalytic properties.
A Systematic Study of the Meaning Conveyed by Morphology in 3D Modeling Design

Implementation of 3D modeling design through morphological systematization represents a cuttingedge design methodology. However, this innovative approach has yet to establish a cohesive theoretical framework. Therefore, this paper utilized principles of Gestalt psychology as a foundation for significant research. By analyzing characteristics of organizational principles, the following eight essential keywords related to morphological systematization were proposed: “similar color,” “similar size,” “similar shape,” “distance,” “response,” “directional,” “overlapping,” and “incomplete.” These keywords were then synthesized to construct a morphological system framework that could allow content developers to aesthetically investigate various forms of 3D modeling and assess the strength of their formative attributes.
