Blood flow distributions were evaluated using various computational strategies. Three commonly used wall conditions in arterial modeling were employed, namely rigid, dynamic and compliant walls. The results show that the velocity distributions are similar under rigid and dynamic walls, developing into the Poiseuille flow, but they are blunt under compliant walls. The peak pressure under rigid walls is highest, but the model of dynamic walls has a good approximation of pressure against the model of compliant walls. The results indicate that a model of compliant walls appears to be a computationally and reasonably accurate approximation of blood velocity distributions compared with the analysis under rigid or dynamic walls. Introducing fluid-structure interaction into arterial modeling is necessary to ensure reliable results and information. However, a model of dynamic walls seems to be a computationally inexpensive yet reasonably accurate approximation for pressure.

The paper focus on the supply chain model with a single product in electronic and retail channel, only a supplier and a retailer in system, customers have alternatives to choose the channel that is better suited to their needs, some of them may alternatively switch to the other channel when a stock-out occurs in their preferred channel. Supplier and retailer implement one-for-one and (Q, R) ordering policies respectively to replenish their inventories. We set up the profit model of supply chain by Markov process, and study the product availability of supply chain. The result shows that the stock-out based substitution rate may increase or decrease the efficiency of decentralized supply chain; the centralized supply chain can adjust the based-stock levels timely to different stock-out based substitution rate and benefit from it, the supplier and retailer in a decentralized supply chain are more inattentive to customers’ stock-out based substitution rate, and prone to lose their benefits.
Computational analysis of blood flow and wall mechanics in a model of early atherosclerotic artery

In this paper, the model of the early atherosclerotic artery was introduced to investigate the blood flow and wall mechanics and the effects of atherosclerosis on neighboring healthy arteries. Under the assumptions of unsteady, laminar, Newtonian, viscous, and incompressible blood flow and linear-elastic, isotropic, and incompressible vessel wall, the finite element method was used to construct the fluid-structure interaction scheme. Results show that wall shear stress is lower, and cyclic strain is higher in the neighboring healthy arteries than those in the atherosclerotic artery. The hemodynamic and wall mechanical factors are disadvantageous to the healthy arteries and have negative effects. The mechanical changes induced by early atherosclerosis may cause the disease to spread to the healthy arteries. This work proves that early diagnosis and treatment are important in preventing the further development and propagation of atherosclerosis.

Background: TP73-AS1 is a novel antisense long noncoding RNA and plays an important role in cell proliferation and cancer development. However, the link between TP73-AS1 and colorectal cancer (CRC) has not yet been reported. Objective: To explore the association of genetic variants in TP73-AS1 and its expression with CRC susceptibility and prognosis. Methods: A case-control study (including 507 CRC cases and 503 controls) and bioinformatics analysis were conducted. Results: rs9800 polymorphism was significantly related to higher risk in CRC [adjusted odds ratio (AOR) = 1.33, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.02-1.75, P = 0.034 in heterozygote codominant model]. There was no difference between TP73-AS1 polymorphisms and different tumor node metastasis (TNM) stages in the adjusted model. Moreover, TP73-AS1 expression level was positively related to different TNM stages. After adjusted for age, gender and TNM, higher TP73-AS1 expression levels were related to shorter recurrence-free survival time [hazard ratio (HR) = 1.66, 95% CI = 1.02-2.71, P = 0.043]. Conclusion: TP73-AS1 polymorphisms and expression may be associated with susceptibility and prognosis of CRC.
Numerical simulation of pulse wave propagation in a curved artery

Objective: To set up a model of pulse wave propagation in a curved artery and compare the differences of pulse wave propagation between straight and curved arteries. Methodology: In previous work, we deal with a three-segment wave propagation model in a straight tube. In this paper, as a follow up study, we construct a wave propagation model in a curved artery based on the three-segment model developed in a straight tube. Numerical simulation is performed using a fluid-structure interaction. Findings: The comparison of this curved model and previous straight model indicates that arterial geometry has a significant impact on pulse wave propagation. An obvious time delay occurs whether between the peaks or between the bottoms in a straight tube. However, the time delay only occurs between the bottoms in a curved artery while it does not clearly exist between the peaks. The finding indicates that a time delay between bottoms is more stable and easy to catch. Actually, a velocity wave is just quantized by usually measuring a time delay between bottoms in clinics and experiments. Modeling of pulse wave propagation in a curved artery and the use of wave propagation model can be better made to perform hemodynamic distributions and predict vascular disorders.
Antitumor effects of dammarane-type saponins from steamed Notoginseng

<P>Six dammarane-type saponins were extracted from steamed <I>Panax notoginseng</I>. Their chemical structures were identified spectroscopically as ginsenosides Rh<SUB>1</SUB> (1), Rg<SUB>1</SUB> (2), 20 (S)-Rg<SUB>3</SUB> (3), 20 (R)-Rg<SUB>3</SUB> (4), Rb<SUB>3</SUB> (5), and Rb<SUB>1</SUB> (6). Compounds (0.1-10 μM) were tested for inhibition of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF)-induced nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB) luciferase reporter activity using a human kidney 293T cell-based assay. Ginsenoside Rb<SUB>3</SUB> (5) showed the most significant activity with an IC<SUB>50</SUB> of 8.2 μM. This compound also inhibited the induction of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) messenger Ribonucleic acid (mRNA) in a dose-dependent manner after HepG2 cells had been treated with TNF-α (10 ng/mL).</P>
An integrated dendrite-free zinc metal electrode for corrosion inhibition in aqueous system

Zinc ion batteries have gotten increasing attention as a potential candidate for lithium-ion batteries, due totheir high specific capacity (820 mAh·g1), energy density, and safety. Inevitably, dendrite and corrosion create sometrouble for this system. Herein, an integrated Zn electrode coated by Zn-Al metal oxides prepared by a simple spincoatingmethod was utilized to increase the rechargeability for aqueous zinc ion batteries. By coating the Zn anodewith an artificial electrolyte interface, the wettability of Zn anodes was improved and impedance was reduced. Thecoating suppressed not only the appearance of dendrite but also the formation of corrosion products. The symmetricalcells with coating have a low overpotential (43mV) and an excellent life span. Meanwhile, the applied full batteriesexhibit an improved capacity retention rate (86.67% after 120 cycles), great rate performance and low apparent activationenergy (24.6 KJ·mol1). The simple production methods and superior corrosion suppression effects provide newideas for the anode protection of aqueous system batteries.
