Background: Information on the effectiveness of nirmatrelvir/ritonavir against the omicron is limited. The clinical response and viral kinetics to therapy in the real world need to be evaluated. Methods: Mild to moderate coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients with risk factors for severe illness were prospectively enrolled as a treatment group with nirmatrelvir/ritonavir therapy versus a control group with supportive care. Serial viral load and culture from the upper respiratory tract were evaluated for seven days, and clinical responses and adverse reactions were evaluated for 28 days. Results: A total of 51 patients were analyzed including 40 in the treatment group and 11 in the control group. Faster symptom resolution during hospitalization (P = 0.048) was observed in the treatment group. Only minor adverse reactions were reported in 27.5% of patients. The viral load on Day 7 was lower in the treatment group (P = 0.002). The viral culture showed a positivity of 67.6% (25/37) vs. 100% (6/6) on Day 1, 0% (0/37) vs. 16.7 (1/6) on Day 5, and 0% (0/16) vs. 50.0% (2/4) on Day 7 in the treatment and control groups, respectively. Conclusions: Nirmatrelvir/ritonavir against the omicron was safe and resulted in negative viral culture conversion after Day 5 of treatment with better symptomatic resolution.

Background: It is assumed that loss of heterozygosity and allelic copy loss in HLA gene is associated with poor response rates in immune checkpoint inhibitor treatment. H-owever, the accurate extents or consistency in cancer types have not been explored. Objective: The goal of this study is to investigate quantitative relationship between HLA allelic copy loss and response rates to immune checkpoint inhibitors. Also, tumor microenvironment was computationally assessed in the tumors with HLA copy loss to provide potential mechanisms for the relationships. Method: A total of 282 whole exome sequencing data from three cohorts of patients who received immune checkpoint blockade immunotherapy were analyzed, including Anti-PDL1 treated in metastatic urothelial cancer (N = 216), anti-PD1 treated metastatic melanoma (N = 26), and anti-CTLA4 treated metastatic melanoma (N = 39). The LOHHLA algorithm was used to calculate allelic copy number loss at each HLA-A, -B, and -C locus, and further determine HLA allelic copy loss status. The HLA copy status and ICB response rates were analyzed for association using Fisher's exact test. The CIBERSORT-absolute algorithm was then used to analyze the patient's immune environment, which represented loss of heterozygosity, using paired matched RNA sequencing data. Results: Unlike the general expectation, HLA allelic copy loss was not significantly associated with the ICB responses. Moreover, the relationship showed a reversed relationship in HLA-A in the urothelial cancer (better ICB response in HLA copy loss). Regardless of the HLA copy status, the proportion of cytotoxic immune cells in the immune environment of patients was correlated with ICB response, which was higher in the loss of heterozygosity group in the urothelial cohort. Conclusion: Although the loss of heterozygosity in HLA was generally expected to be an inhibitory factor in the immune treatment response by causing T cell immune evasion, our analysis demonstrates no explicit relationships.
Management of Sport Injuries with Korean Medicine: A Survey of Korean National Volleyball Team

<P>The purpose of this study was to report the current state of Korean medicine (KM) treatment on sports injury by implementing survey with volleyball team medical doctors participating in 2013-2014 season. Six KM doctors completed a questionnaire that includes injury parameters: type, location, situation, and pain scores. We collected 166 injury cases from 94 Korean male and female national volleyball players. Knee (25.9%), low back (13.3%), elbow, and ankle (8.4%) injuries were most common. Joint (41.6%) and muscle (30.7%) were major injured tissues. KM team medical doctors utilized acupuncture (40.4%), chuna manual therapy (16.0%), physical therapy (15.2%), taping (9.0%), and cupping (7.8%) to treat volleyball injuries. Any types of medications were used infrequently. Additional physical and exercise therapy were preferred after receiving acupuncture (both 46.9%). This study presented the preliminary injury profile of Korean elite volleyball players. Injury and treatment parameters could be useful to build advanced KM model in sport medicine.</P>

The characteristics of inactivation and photoreactivation of Escherichia coli by a high-power pulsed ultraviolet (PUV) irradiation and the influence of the humic acids on disinfection performance were investigated. The pulsed power source was operated at 2,400 V, with 200 J of energy being stored in a 100-μF capacitor. This energy dissipated in the xenon-filled flashlamp within 150 μs, generating a megawatt-level peak power per pulse. The light source was operated at 12 pulses per second (12 Hz). More than a 6-log reduction was achieved via 5 sec of irradiation at a distance of 20 cm, which corresponds approximately to a UV dose of 23 mJ/cm2. The inactivation efficiency decreased with increasing concentrations of humic acids (HA). At the distance of 20 cm, 10 ppm HA reduced the inactivation efficiency to 50%. UV absorption by HA and, in part, the growth-promoting effect of humic acids were implicated in reductions of inactivation performance in the presence of HA. After a disinfection procedure with PUV, the possibility of photoreactivation was greatly reduced and an additional reduction of approximately 1-log was also achieved during 8 h under visible light after inactivation with a UV dosage of 9.0 mJ/cm2 (3 sec at 30 cm). The extent of additional inactivation under visible light was reduced with increasing concentrations of humic acids in water.
National Pension Service(NPS) and Stock Liquidity in the Korean Stock Market

This study examines the impact of the National Pension Fund's participation in the Korean stock market on stock liquidity by analyzing stock holdings and transaction data spanning from 2010 to 2019. During the sample period, the National Pension Fund's (NPF) holdings of Korean stocks consistently rose, indicating a sustained and robust investment presence in the nation's financial market. In the regression analysis, the National Pension Fund's purchase of domestic stocks demonstrates a significant relationship with an increase in stock liquidity. Moreover, we underscored the robustness of our investigative outcomes by utilizing event study methodology, focusing on disclosures related to the National Pension Fund pursuant to the 5% rule, and alterations in the domestic equity benchmark designated by the National Pension Fund. The results show that the purchase of the National Pension Fund increase stock liquidity. These findings suggest a potential avenue through which the NPF’s active participation in the stock market may amplify both market quality and efficiency.
