Structure-activity relationship of essential oil components and insecticidal activity

Essential oils or phytochemicals that are naturally synthesized by plants have received much attention as alternative pest control strategy. They are composed of highly volatile compounds which are less toxic to human but highly toxic to pests such as insects, microorganisms and nematodes. Until now, many researchers have evaluated the toxicities of essential oils and phytochemicals in Korea. Among them some of essential oils are formulated as repellents against mosquitoes. However, even such a broad research, the mode of action of essential oils is still unclear. To develop more effective and environmental friendly natural pesticides and to help understand the mode of action of essential oils, we have investigated the structureactivity relationship (SAR) between the chemical components of bio-active essential oils and nematode as well as insect pests. SAR of short-chain aliphatic compounds and ester analogues and pine wood nematode, Brusaphelenchus xylophilus; and salicylate analogues and adzuki been weevil, Callosobruchus chinensis are discussed here.

Controlling magnetic domains in soft underlayer (SUL) of perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) is an important issue for the application of PMR in HDD. We studied the magnetic domain structures in SUL using the finite element based micromagnetic simulation (FEMM) for the SUL models with different thicknesses. The purpose is to simulate the magnetic domain wall noise when the SUL thickness and saturation magnetization are changed. The simulation results show that a 15 ㎚ SUL forms simpler Neel wall domain wall pattern and 40 ㎚ SUL forms complex Bloch wall. To visualize the effect of these domain walls stray field at a read sensor position, the magnetic stray field of the domain walls at air bearing surface (ABS) which is 50 ㎚ above the SUL was simulated and the results imply that Bloch walls have stronger stray field with more complicated field patterns than Neel walls and this becomes a significant noise source. Therefore, the thickness of the SUL should be controlled to avoid the formation of Bloch walls.

The pendent type organ accel pedal has many advantages over pendent accel pedal and box type organ accel pedal. In this paper, we focus on pendent type organ accel pedal design optimization for linearity sensor property and strength & crash performance and ease-to-install. And by the bench and vehicle testing, we proved our optimal design.

Vehicle collision, the brake pedal is pushed with the dash panel at the bottom of the driver. So I tried to remove this problem in addition to the pedal stopper. This paper introduces development history of optimization design of hinge breaking brake pedal.
