Evaluating Feasibility of Producing Fermented Organic Fertilizer with Vegetable Waste

Food waste (FW) has been recognized as a critical problem in Korea and many research was conducted to efficiently utilize or treat FW. Main purpose of this research was to evaluate a feasibility for producing fermented organic fertilizer with vegetable waste (VW). Three different organic materials (saw dust, coco peat, and waste mushroom media) were mixed with VW at the rate of 30, 40, 50% respectively. Total days of composting experiment were 35 days and each sub samples were collected at every 5 days from starting of composting. Result showed that inner temperature of composting was increased to 60±4°C within 5~10 days depending on varied organic materials and mixing ratio. Among different treatment, the highest increase of inner temperature was observed when 30% of saw dust was mixed with VW. After finishing composting experiment, maturity of each compost was evaluated with solvita and germination test. Maturity index (MI) of each treatment was ranged between 5~7 indicating that manufactured fertilizer was curing or finished stage. Calculated germination index (GI) was at the range of 57.83~101.16 depending on organic materials and mixing ratio. Both MI and GI showed that manufactured fertilizer was met for fertilizer criteria while control (VW only) was not adequate for composting. Overall, VW can be utilized for making organic fertilizer mixing with saw dust, coco peat and more research should be conducted to make high quality of organic fertilizer with vegetable waste.

Eccrine poroma arises most often on the sole or side of the foot as a solitary nodule. There are few reports of the occurrence of multiple eccrine poroma, defined as eccrine poromatosis. The pathophysiology is unclear, but many of the published cases have a history of immunosuppression, either with chemotherapy or radiation. Eccrine poromatosis associated with chemotherapy or immunosuppression is a rare condition, and there is no reported case in Korean dermatologic literature to date. A 36-year-old male presented with multiple red, dome-shaped nodular lesions on his feet which have been for 6 months. 5 years ago he underwent chemotherapy and peripheral blood stem cell transplantation for his acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Graft-versus-host disease developed one year after transplantation and he was managed by taking azathioprine, imatinib, ruxolitinib and prednisolone. Apart from this, he has been in remission from AML until now. Two punch biopsied specimens were obtained and histopathologic examination showed marked acanthosis and tumor growing down into the dermis in broad anastomosing bands. Tumor cells were slightly smaller than keratinocytes, and sharp demarcation between the keratinocytes were seen. On the basis of clinical and histologic findings, he was diagnosed as eccrine poromatosis. Herein, we report a case of eccrine poromatosis that developed in a patient with history of chemotherapy and immunosuppression

Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare hematologic malignancy characterized by a proliferation of blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cells. Cutaneous involvement of BPDCN was observed at diagnosis in 77% of cases. Skin lesions may be solitary or multiple, affecting the trunk, head, and extremities. They are typically erythematous or red.brown nodules, tumors or plaques, or bruise-like lesions. Disseminated cutaneous lesions are relatively uncommon, representing 15% of cases. An 83-year-old woman presented with generalized erythematous papulonodular lesions that appeared on her trunk and extremities. Biopsied specimen from trunk showed dense, monomorphous dermal infiltration of blastic cells with irregular nuclei. Immunohistochemical study confirmed the expression of CD4, CD56, and CD123 in the absence of T-cell, B-cell and myeloid markers. Bone marrow biopsy and positron emission tomography- computed tomography revealed multiple organ involvement of tumor cells. From these clinical and histologic findings, diagnosis of BPDCN was made. Despite of palliative chemotherapy, patient deceased after 4 months. Herein, we present a case of BPDCN showing unusual generalized papulonodular lesions. Considering that BPDCN is an aggressive malignancy, appropriate diagnosis and treatment is crucial. Clinicians should remind themselves that BPDCN can show diverse cutaneous manifestations.
Melanoacanthoma on the leg clinically resembling nevus spilus

Melanoacanthoma is a rare benign mixed tumor of both keratinocytes and melanocytes. The cell of origin of these tumors is thought to be basal and prickle cell keratinocytes in conjunction with pigment laden dendritic melanocytes. Melanoacanthomas usually manifest as solitary or multiple pigmented papules, plaques, cutaneous horns and nodules in face, trunk or extremities. Clinically, melanoacanthoma could show variable features such as squamous cell carcinoma or melanoma, but nevus spilus-like melanoacanthoma has not been reported. A 62-year female presented with asymptomatic, pigmented lesions on her lower leg for the past 20 years. It clinically appears as a hyperpigmented patch containing scattered multiple dark, papular foci. It has gradually increased in size over time. Histopathology revealed hyperkeratosis, acanthosis with tumor nests composed of keratinocytes along with scattered large dendritic melanocytes laden with abundant melanin granules spread throughout the epidermis. No cytologic atypia was noticed. The dendritic melanocytes were demonstrated by the HMB-45 stain and S-100 stain. These findings were consistent with melanoacanthoma. We hereby report a case of melanoacanthoma resembling nevus spilus on the lower leg, which showed an unusual clinical presentation.

NMR shift arising from the electron orbital angular momentum and the electron spin dipolar-nuclear spin angular momentum interactions has been investigated for a $4d^{1}$ system in a strong crystal field of octahedral symmetry. To examine the NMR shif for a $4d^{1}$ system in a strong crystal field of octahedral symmetry, we derive a general expression for ${\Delta}$B/B using a nonmultipole expansion technique. From this expression all the multipolar terms are determined. For the $4d^{1}$ system in a strong crystal field of octahedral symmetry the exact solution for NMR shift, ${\Delta}$B, is compared with the multipolar results. ${\Delta}$B/B for the $4d^{1}$ system is also compared with that for the $3d^{1}$ system. It is found that the $1/R^{7}$ term contributes dominantly to the NMR shift. However, there is good agreement between the nonmultipole and multipolar results for R-values larger than 0.2 nm for the $4d^{1}$ system but for R-values larger than 0.4 nm for the $3d^{1}$ system.

Adenoma of the nipple (AN) is an uncommon benign tumor of the breast. AN shows similar signs and symptoms with Paget``s disease and similar histopathologic features with sweat gland adenoma. Clinical features like soreness, ulceration and swelling of the nipple, sometimes with discharge, may simulate Paget’s disease. Thus, performing careful clinical and histological examinations along with radiologic investigations are important for the proper management of AN. A 37-year-old female, consulted in the department of dermatology for a mass lesion of her right nipple that appeared 1 year before. She presented with erythematous swelling, serosanguinous discharge and erosion of the nipple. Physical examination revealed an irregular nodule on the right nipple area with edema. The left breast and nipple were normal. Ultrasonography showed a hypoechoic circumscribed nodule measuring 13 x 15 x 11mm in the right nipple. A punch biopsy specimen revealed a proliferation of gland-like structures in which the tubules were lined with a double layer of epithelial cells, an outer myoepithelial layer of cuboidal cells. The cells showed no evidence of cytologic atypia. These findings were consistent with AN. Herein, we present an interesting case of locally infiltrative neoplasm of the nipple which was finally diagnosed with AN.

We have investigated the ferroelectric properties of integrated Pt/SrBi2Ta2O9 (SBT)/Pt capacitors with capacitor-level dielectric of boron phosphosilicate glass (BPSG). A signicant reduction of remanent polarization (P-P^) was observed in the SBT capacitor as covered with BPSG lm and the polarization decay depended strongly on top electorde size. Detailed analyses showed the degradation resulted from bismuth loss in the surface region of SBT, which is closely related with the impurites diused from BPSG into SBT layer. The degradation of Pt/SBT/Pt ferroelectric capacitor was successfully prevented by inserting SiO2 layer as a impurity blocking layer between the SBT and the BPSG. Thereby device performances of SBT-based ferroelectric memory were also considerably improved.
Histologic analysis of lipolysis with a novel 1,927-nm diode laser during 3-month follow-up

Background: Although several laser lipolysis devices have been applied in the past, their shortage of efficacy andlong treatment times are shortcomings, leading to lower utilization in lipolysis. Lasers of 1,927-nm promote greater water and fat absorption than previous wavelengths. Objectives: To evaluate the dose-dependent effects and repair processes of 1,927-nm diode laser lipolysis by analyzing histopathologic findings. Methods: Two minipigs were used, and one of the two was injected with a tumescent saline solution. Six 10 x 10 cm2 test fields were treated by a 1,927-nm diode laser with a wide range of total energy levels (4.8-7.2 W, 60-120 mJ, 40-60 Hz). Serial biopsies were performed immediately after the procedure and at 1 day, 1 week, 2weeks, 4 weeks and 3 months after laser lipolysis. The thickness of the subcutaneous fat layer was evaluated. Results: Three months after laser lipolysis, visible and palpable depressed areas on the skin surface of both minipigs were observed without clinically visible damage to the epidermis. Inflammatory cell infiltration or granulomatous reaction began after laser treatment but resolved in the follow-up period. Reduction of the thickness of the subcutaneous layer was also detected. Conclusion: The novel 1,927-nm diode laser may provide effective lipolysis with a better safety margin and faster treatment time. Further studies are warranted to evaluate efficacy and safety in human settings.
