Background: Circulating inflammatory cytokines and markers are increased in patients with psoriasis. Recent studies have shown that a higher red blood cell distribution width (RDW) is associated with disease activity in various disorders. Objectives: Our objective was to investigate whether RDW is increased in psoriasis patients, and to evaluate its association with disease severity. Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of psoriasis patients seen in single hospital in Korea. Demographic data, hematologic parameters and disease severity were collected. Results: A total of 261 psoriasis patients and 102 healthy controls were included in our study. The RDW value was significantly increased in psoriasis patients compared to healthy control (p=0.037). Compared to mild psoriasispatients (PASI<7), moderate to severe patients (PASI≥7) showed significantly higher RDW values (p=0.044). RDW did not show significant correlation with PASI (p=0.358). When patients were divided into two groups according to their RDW value (<14.6% and ≥14.6%), the mean value of PASI was not significantly different (p=0.219). Conclusion: Patients with psoriasis showed increased RDW values compared to healthy controls. It was also higher in moderate and severe disease group than mild group. RDW values were increased in psoriasis patients and it is possible that RDW value reflects the inflammatory status of psoriasis, but this needs to be evaluated in near future.

Ji Won Lee,Bong-Jo Kim,Cheol-Soon Lee,Boseok Cha,So-Jin Lee,Dongyun Lee,Jiyeong Seo,Young-Ji Lee,Youn-Jung Lee,Eunji Lim,Jae-Won Choi 대한소아청소년정신의학회 2021 소아청소년정신의학 Vol.32 No.4
Objectives: Adolescent suicide is a serious social problem. Adolescent alcohol use is one of the most important risk factors for adolescent suicide. This study aimed to identify the relationship between drinking habits and suicide among Korean adolescents. Methods: Data from the 14th and 15th Korean Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey, conducted in 2018 and 2019, were used for analysis. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to identify the relationship between drinking habits—including the age of drinking initiation, frequency of drinking, average drinking amount, frequency of drunkenness—and suicidal ideation, plans, and attempts. Results: Even after adjusting for age, sex, school grade, academic achievement, socioeconomic status, depression, stress, and drinking habits, the frequencies of drinking and drunkenness increased the risk of suicide attempts. Suicide attempts were associated with the frequency of drinking in girls and middle school students, and with the frequency of drunkenness in boys and high school students. Conclusion: This study identified associations between drinking habits (the age of drinking initiation, frequency of drinking, average amount of drinking, frequency of drunkenness) and suicidal behavior in adolescents. Our findings suggest that to prevent adolescent suicide, it might be necessary to investigate drinking habits, including the frequencies of drinking and drunkenness. Moreover, considering the differences in sex and school grade, it is important to include the individual group characteristics when evaluating drinking habits.
Microbial Population Dynamics and Temperature Changes during Fermentation of Kimjang Kimchi
Dongyun Lee,Sunjoo Kim,Jinhee Cho,김정호 한국미생물학회 2008 The journal of microbiology Vol.46 No.5
A distinct subset of lactic acid bacteria that are greatly influenced by temperature play an important role during kimchi fermentation. However, microbial population dynamics and temperature control during kimjang kimchi fermentation, which is traditionally fermented underground, are not known. Here we show that Lactobacillus sakei predominates in kimjang kimchi, perhaps due to suitable fermentation (5~9°C) and storage (-2°C) temperatures. The temperature of this kimchi gradually decreased to 3.2°C during the first 20 days of fermentation (-0.3oC/day) and then was stably maintained around 1.6°C, indicating that this simple approach is very efficient both for fermentation and storage. These findings provide important information towards the development of temperature controlling systems for kimchi fermentation.

Dongyun Lee,So-Jin Lee,Chul-Soo Park,Bong-Jo Kim,Cheol-Soon Lee,Boseok Cha,Ji-Yeong Seo,Jae-Won Choi 대한신경정신의학회 2019 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.16 No.10
Objective Resilience and impulsivity have opposite effects on depression in stressful situations. This study aimed to investigate the association among resilience, impulsivity, and depression in young males. Methods The participants consisted of 429 conscripts who underwent military training over 5 weeks. The surveys included the Connors- Davidson Resilience Scale-Korean version, the Barratt Impulsiveness Scale-11-Revised, and the Center for Epidemiological Studies- Depression Scale. The surveys were administered both before and after training. Results When simultaneously considering impulsivity and resilience, resilience was not associated with depression. Impulsivity had a complete negative mediating effect on resilience and depressive symptoms. Impulsivity is a significant negative mediating factor for the protective effect of resilience on depression. Conclusion This study recommends considering impulsivity when evaluating the protective role of resilience against depression.
P039 : Analysis of human blood follicular helper T cells in patients with psoriasis
( Dongyun Shin ),( Dae Suk Kim ),( Jung Hwan Lee ),( Sung Hee Kim ),( Hee Joo Kim ),( Do Young Kim ),( Soo Min Kim ),( Min Geol Lee ) 대한피부과학회 2014 대한피부과학회 학술발표대회집 Vol.66 No.2
Background: Follicular helper T (Tfh) cell is a recently characterized subset of helper T cells, with a distinct gene expression and a specialized role in supporting antibody response. Recently, blood Tfh cells are reported to be altered in patients with autoimmune disorders. However, there is no report about Tfh cell in patients with psoriasis. Objectives: To analyze the human blood Tfh cells in patients with psoriasis. Methods: Peripheral blood mononuclear cells from 16 psoriasis patients (PSO) and 11 healthy controls (HC) werestained with antibodies against CD4, CXCR5, PD-1, ICOS and analyzed with flow cytometry. Clinical and laboratory parameters were also measured. Results: The portions of CD4+CXCR5+ T cells in CD4+ T cells were not significantly different between PSO and HC. However, interestingly, the portions of CXCR5+PD-1 T cells in CD4+ T cells were significantly lower in PSO than HC (4.45% vs 2.14%, p=0.0421, respectively). The portions of CXCR5+PD-1 T cells in CD4+ T cells were also negatively correlated with ESR (p=0.0238, r=-0.5188), and significantly lower in patients with higher ASO titer (p=0.0445). Conclusion: CD4+CXCR5+PD-1+ T cells, which are known as activated subsets of Tfh cells, were significantly less expressed in PSO compared to HC, and negatively correlated with laboratory parameters of psoriasis. These results suggest that Tfh cells and B cell immunity could be altered in psoriasis.

Sea mustard (Undaria pinnatifida), an important edible seaweed belonging to the brown algal family of Alariaceae, contains copious physiologically active substances. It has long been popular in Korea as a food and is frequently consumed in the form of soup. It is also commercially available as a home meal replacement. In this study, we developed a seasoning key base with a high degree of sensory preference from sea mustard using the extrusion cooking process. Extrusion cooking conditions were optimized through response surface methodology. Barrel temperature (X1, 140℃-160℃) and screw speed (X2, 158-315 rpm) were set as independent variables, and overall preference was determined as the dependent variable (Y, points). An optimal condition was obtained at X1 = 148.5℃ and X2 = 315 rpm, and the dependent variable (Y, overall acceptance) was 7.95 points, similar to the experimental value of 7.81. Umami taste had a relationship with the overall acceptance of sea mustard seasoning. In the electronic nose and tongue, increased sourness and umami intensities were associated with the highest sensory score. The samples were separated well by each characteristic via principal component analysis. Collectively, our study provides imperative preliminary data for the development of various seasonings using sea mustard.

Objective: Cardiovascular diseases are representative risk factors for the onset of cognitive decline. The purpose of this study was to confirm the relationship between diastolic blood pressure and cognitive function in elderly people in Korea. Methods: Data from subjects who were enrolled in the prospective Korean Longitudinal Study on Cognitive Aging and Dementia were used in this study. Data from 701 subjects whose diastolic blood pressure range did not change (≤79 mm Hg or ≥80 mm Hg) over 2 years were analyzed. To analyze the differences in cognitive function between the groups at the 2-year follow-up, an analysis of covariance was performed with covariates, which were significantly different between the two groups, and the baseline cognitive function. Results: Significant differences were observed between the two groups, and the mean scores on the constructional praxis (η2=0.010) and word list recall tests (η2=0.018) in the diastolic blood pressure ≥80 mm Hg group were higher than those in the diastolic blood pressure ≤79 mm Hg group at the 2-year follow-up. Conclusion: These results indicate that maintaining a DBP below 79 mm Hg presents a greater risk of cognitive decline in Korean elderly people.
