<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Atmospheric-pressure (AP) cold plasma has experienced a growing interest recently due to its simplicity and high efficiency for preparing supported metal catalysts by using the active hydrogen species generated from explosive H2 gas. In this communication, we report an alternative AP cold plasma method for synthesizing supported Pd catalysts using Ar gas and ethanol instead of explosive H2 gas and toxic reducing agents. The TOF value of the prepared Pd/P25 catalyst at 120 °C is 3.1 times of that prepared by cold plasma using H2 gas due to the protection of the formed carbon species. AP cold plasma using ethanol as the origin of active hydrogen species is safer and more efficient than that using H2 gas, and may also have great potentials to synthesize other supported metal catalysts.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> An alternative AP cold plasma method was employed to synthesize Pd catalyst. </LI> <LI> Ethanol was adopted to generate active hydrogen species instead of explosive H2. </LI> <LI> Protection of the residual carbon species is responsible for the small size of Pd. </LI> <LI> TOF of Pd/P25 prepared using ethanol is 3.1 times of that prepared using H2 gas. </LI> <LI> It is a safer, facile and environmentally benign AP cold plasma method. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

The protein encoded by dynein axonemal heavy chain 1 (DNAH1) is a part of dynein, which regulates the function of cilia and sperm flagella. The mutant of DNAH1 causes the deletion of inner dynein arm 3 in the flagellum, leading to multiple morphological abnormalities of the sperm flagella (MMAF) and severe asthenozoospermia. However, instead of asthenozoospermia and MMAF, the result caused by the mutation of DNAH1 remains unknown. Here we report a male infertility patient with severe asthenozoospermia and teratozoospermia. We found two heterozygous mutations in DNAH1 (c.6912C>A and c.7076G>T) and which were reported to be associated with MMAF for the first time. We next collected and analyzed 65 cases of DNAH1 mutation and found that the proportion of short flagella is the largest, while the bent flagella account for the smallest, and the incidence of head deformity is not high in the sperm of these patients. Finally, we also analyzed 31 DNAH1 mutation patients who were treated with intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) and achieved beneficial outcomes. We hope our research will be helpful in the diagnosis and treatment of male infertility caused by DNAH1 mutation.

Li-wen Zhang,Ru-cheng Xiao,Bin Sun,Yang Jiang,Xue-yi Zhang,Dong-li Zhuang,Yun-gang Zhou,Xue Tu 국제구조공학회 2013 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.47 No.2
Economic performances of consecutive multi-span suspension bridges are studied. The material amount and cost estimation formulas of the bridges have been derived in the part 1 of the study. A parametric study is carried out based on the formulas for investigating the different factors’ effect on the bridge cost. The factors include the bridge sag, the bridge span, the bridge foundation and the environment condition, etc. Then, an economical layout of the bridges is proposed for different conditions. Lastly, a selection of suspension bridge types is discussed based on the economy of bridges.

A study on economic performances of consecutive multi-span suspension bridges is carried out. In this part of the study, material amount and structural cost estimation formulas of the bridges is derived based on the structural ultimate carrying capacity. The bridge cost includes the part of superstructure and the part of substructure. Three types of bridge foundations, bored piles, concrete caissons and floating foundations, are considered in substructure. These formulas are to be used for the parametric study of the bridge cost in order to define its more economical layout under different conditions in the part two of the study.
Measurements of proton beam flux and energy of APEP using foil activation technique
Li Wenlin,Dong Qifan,Jing Hantao,Ou Li,Tan Zhixin,Zhuang Sixuan,Wu Qingbiao 한국원자력학회 2024 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.56 No.1
The activation method of metallic foils is an important technique to measure the flux and energy of proton beams. In this paper, the method was used to measure the CSNS APEP proton flux at seven nominal proton energies ranging from 10 MeV to 70 MeV for beam spot sizes of the 20 mm × 20 mm and 50 mm × 50 mm. The reactions of natTi(p, x)48V, natNi(p, x)57Ni, natCu(p, x)58Co, and 27Al(p, x)24Na were employed to measure the proton beam flux with a range of 107-109 p/cm2/s. Furthermore, we also proposed a method using the activity ratio with a stacked-foil target to determine the energy spread of a Gaussian-like distribution for different nominal proton energies. The optimal combinations of Al, Cu, Ti, Ni, Mo, Fe, Nb, and In foils were adopted for the proton energies. The measured energy spreads for degraded beams of 30 MeV–70 MeV were found to be smaller than 10.00%.

A new type of hydrophobic polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofiber is fabricated by solution blowing of a blend solution of fluorine-containing polyacrylate (FPA) and PAN. The nanofibers’ surface composition, hydrophobicity, and protection ability were evaluated to clarify the effects of FPA addition. Results revealed that FPA addition increased the nanofiber diameter, as well as enhanced the hydrophobicity and transport properties of the nanofiber mats. The mats had average water contact angles of 123.44 o, 132.11 o, and 137.11 o for FPA contents of 0.66 wt%, 1.98 wt%, and 3.30 wt%, respectively. All these results suggested the potential of the solution blowing nanofiber mats as protection materials.

<P>The FeOx-supported Pd catalyst prepared by co-precipitation has drawn considerable research attention owing to its low-temperature CO oxidation activity. However, Pd utilization should be improved owing to its encapsulation into the support. In this work, atmospheric-pressure cold plasma was employed to synthesize a Pd/FeOx-P catalyst for the first time. The reaction rate of the Pd/FeOx-P catalyst (at 25 degrees C) is 1.3 times that of the Pd/FeOx-C catalyst prepared by conventional H-2 reduction and 3.5 times that in a previous work, owing to the surface enrichment of Pd species, the larger pore diameter of the FeOx support, a higher metallic Pd ratio, and abundant oxygen vacancies. To improve the performance of $LiFePO_4F$, a novel sol-gel process is developed. For comparison, ceramic process is also implemented. From X-ray diffraction results we know that each sample adopts a triclinic $P{\bar{1}}$ space group, and they are isostructural with amblygonite and tavorite. The scanning electron microscope images show that the homogeneous grains with the dimension of 300-500 nm is obtained by the sol-gel process; meanwhile the sample particles obtained by ceramic process are as big as 1000-3000 nm. By galvanostatic tests and at electrochemical impedance spectroscopy method, the sample obtained by sol-gel process presents better electrochemical properties than the one obtained by ceramic process.
