MPEG-5 EVC Encoder Improvement for V-PCC
Vol.2021 No.6
In this paper, we proposed an improved method on the picture order of coding (POC) of MPEG-5 Essential video Coding (EVC) encoder to support a short intra period for Video-based Point Cloud Compression (V-PCC). As a codec-agnostically designed standard, V-PCC claimed to be able to work with a lot of codecs. Current EVC test model software shows that the baseline profile could not provide appropriate POC calculation. The proposed method offers a solution to this POC-related problem and provides up to 44.6% coding grains for EVC based V-PCC.

Vol.2022 No.11
In this paper, we proposed a method for Video-based point cloud compression reference software TMC2 encoder with an option for empty partitions in point cloud encoding. This encoder option allows tile initialization and process for an empty partition. The proposed method provides the TMC2 encoder the robustness to process dynamic point clouds.
HEVC Coding Unit Mode Based Motion Frame Analysis
Vol.2021 No.6
In this paper we propose a method predict whether a video frame contains motion according to the invoking situation of the coding unit mode in HEVC. The motion prediction of video frames is conducive for use in video compression and video data extraction. In the existing technology, motion prediction is usually performed by high complexity computer vision technology. However, we proposed to analyze the motion frame based on HEVC coding unit mode which does not need to use the static background frame. And the prediction accuracy rate of motion frame analysis by our method has exceeded 80%.

This study investigated the insecticidal activity and mechanism of action of essential oil from Citrus limon Osbeck (C. limon oil). The fumigation method was used to determine the insecticidal activity of different concentrations of C. limon oil against adult Cryptolestes pusillus (C. pusillus). In addition, the effect of C. limon oil on the organs of adult C. pusillus was studied. The results showed that when the concentration of C. limon oil reached 0.6 μL/cm 3 , following fumigation for 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, and 24 h, the corrected mortality rates of adult C. pusillus were 13 %, 30 %, 47 %, 95 %, 97 %, and 100 %, respectively. Furthermore, C. limon oil caused vacuolization in the digestive tract and adipose cells, thus, as a plant-based insecticide, it has strong research and application value.
Movement Detection Using Keyframes in Video Surveillance System
Vol.2022 No.6
In this paper, we propose a conceptual framework that identifies video frames in motion containing the movement of people and vehicles in traffic videos. The automatic selection of video frames in motion is an important topic in security and surveillance video because the number of videos to be monitored simultaneously is simply too large due to limited human resources. The conventional method to identify the areas in motion is to compute the differences over consecutive video frames, which has been costly because of its high computational complexity. In this paper, we reduced the overall complexity by examining only the keyframes (or I-frames). The basic assumption is that the time period between I-frames is rather shorter (e.g., 1/10 ~ 3 secs) than the usual length of objects in motion in video (i.e., pedestrian walking, automobile passing, etc.). The proposed method estimates the possibility of videos containing motion between I-frames by evaluating the difference of consecutive I-frames with the long-time statistics of the previously decoded I-frames of the same video. The experimental results showed that the proposed method showed more than 80% accuracy in short surveillance videos obtained from different locations while keeping the computational complexity as low as 20 % compared to the HM decoder.
Complexity Analysis of Internet Video Coding (IVC) Decoding
Park, Sang-hyo,Dong, Tianyu,Jang, Euee S. Korea Multimedia Society 2017 The journal of multimedia information system Vol.4 No.4
The Internet Video Coding (IVC) standard is due to be published by Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) for various Internet applications such as internet broadcast streaming. IVC aims at three things fundamentally: 1) forming IVC patents under a free of charge license, 2) reaching comparable compression performance to AVC/H.264 constrained Baseline Profile (cBP), and 3) maintaining computational complexity for feasible implementation of real-time encoding and decoding. MPEG experts have worked diligently on the intellectual property rights issues for IVC, and they reported that IVC already achieved the second goal (compression performance) and even showed comparable performance to even AVC/H.264 High Profile (HP). For the complexity issue, however, there has not been thorough analysis on IVC decoder. In this paper, we analyze the IVC decoder in view of the time complexity by evaluating running time. Through the experimental results, IVC is 3.6 times and 3.1 times more complex than AVC/H.264 cBP under constrained set (CS) 1 and CS2, respectively. Compared to AVC/H.264 HP, IVC is 2.8 times and 2.9 times slower in decoding time under CS1 and CS2, respectively. The most critical tool to be improved for lightweight IVC decoder is motion compensation process containing a resolution-adaptive interpolation filtering process.
Efficient Image Size Selection for MPEG Video-based Point Cloud Compression
Qiong Jia,M. Vol.2022 No.6
In this paper, we propose an efficient image size selection method for video-based point cloud compression. The current MPEG video-based point cloud compression reference encoding process configures a threshold on the size of images while converting point cloud data into images. Because the converted image is compressed and restored by the legacy video codec, the size of the image is one of the main components in influencing the compression efficiency. If the image size can be made smaller than the image size determined by the threshold, compression efficiency can be improved. Here, we studied how to improve the compression efficiency by selecting the best-fit image size generated during video-based point cloud compression. Experimental results show that the proposed method can reduce the encoding time by 6 percent without loss of coding performance compared to the test model 15.0 version of video-based point cloud encoder.
Effects of Microbiota on the Treatment of Obesity with the Natural Product Celastrol in Rats
Weiyue Hu,Lingling Wang,Guizhen Du,Quanquan Guan,Tianyu Dong,Ling Song,Yankai Xia,Xinru Wang 대한당뇨병학회 2020 Diabetes and Metabolism Journal Vol.44 No.5
Background: Obesity has become one of the most serious issues threatening the health of humankind, and we conducted this study to examine whether and how celastrol protects against obesity. Methods: We fed male Sprague-Dawley rats a high-fat diet and administered celastrol to obese rats for 3 weeks. By recording body weight (BW) and other measures, we identified the effective dose of celastrol for obesity treatment. Feces were collected to perform 16S rRNA sequencing, and hypothalami were extracted for transcriptome sequencing. We then treated leptin knockout rats with celastrol and explored the changes in energy metabolism. Male Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) mice were used to test the acute toxicity of celastrol. Results: We observed that celastrol reduced BW and promoted energy expenditure at a dose of 500 μg/kg BW but that food intake was not changed after administration. The diversity of the gut microbiota was improved, with an increased ratio of Bacteroidetes to Firmicutes, and the gut microbiota played an important role in the anti-obesity effects of celastrol. Hypothalamic transcriptome analysis showed a significant enrichment of the leptin signaling pathway, and we found that celastrol significantly enhanced energy expenditure, which was mediated by the leptin signaling pathway. Acute lethal toxicity of celastrol was not observed at doses ranging from 0 to 62.5 mg/kg BW. Conclusion: Our study revealed that celastrol decreased the BW of obese rats by enhancing energy expenditure but not by suppressing food intake and that this effect was mediated by the improvement of the gut microbiota and the activation of the hypothalamic leptin signaling pathway.
