The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of leg extension exercises performed on outdoor resistance exercise machines on knee extension muscle strength and quadriceps muscle group cross sectional area (CSA) in elderly women. Two groups were recruited for this study, including an exercise group (EG: n=13, 71.38±2.79 yrs) and a control group (CG: n=5, 73.4±5.94), In all subjects, maximum isometric and isokinetic muscle strength of knee flexion and extension were measured using an isokinetic dynamometer (Cybex Humac Norm Testing & Rehabilitation System, USA). Quadriceps muscle group CSA were measured using MRI (Philps, Intera 1.5 T, NE Netherlands), The results of this study showed that post-intervention isometric knee extension peak torque value were higher than pre-intervention measures in the EG. However, the EG did not show improvement in quadriceps muscle group CSA, Also, no differences in the shift of optimal knee joint angle were observed between pre and post-intervention exercise. Outdoor leg extension exercise showed small increases in muscle strength in comparison to other resistance training exercises. The results of this study suggest that because outdoor leg extension exercise machines lack a progressive loading mechanism, significant increases in muscle strength may not be obtained.
Wavelet Pair Noise Removal for Increasing the Classification Accuracy of a Remotely Sensed Image

The noise removal as a preprocessing was tried with various kinds of wavelet pairs. Wavelet transform for 2D images generally uses the same wavelets as basis functions in horizontal and vertical directions. A method with different wavelets was tried for each direction separately, which gives more precise interpretation of the classification. Total 486 pairs of wavelets from nine basis functions were tried to remove image noises. The classification accuracies before and after the noise removal were compared. Although all kinds of wavelet pairs showed the increased accuracies in classification, there were best and worst wavelet pairs depending on the data sets. Wavelet pairs with low energy percentage of LL band showed the high classification accuracy. A pattern was found in the results that very similar vertical accuracy was distributed for each horizontal ones. Since Haar is the shortest length filter, Haar could be a predictor wavelet to find the good wavelet pairs.
Velocity Profile Generation Methods for Industrial Robots and CNC Machine tools

We propose software algorithms which provide the characteristics of acceleration/deceleration essential to high dynamic performance at the transient state where industrial robots or CNC machine tools start and stop. The path error, which is one of the most significant factors in performance evaluation of industrial robots and CNC machine tools, is analyzed for linear, exponential, and parabolic acceleration/deceleration algorithms in case of circular interpolation. The analysis shows that the path error depends on the acceleration/deceleration routine and the servo control system. In experiments, the entire control algorithm including the proposed acceleration/deceleration algorithms is executed on the motion control system with a floating point digital signal processor(DSP) TMS320C30 as a CPU. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithms are very effective in controlling axes of motion of industrial robots or CNC machine tools with the desired characteristics.

11살된 암컷 개, 요크셔 테리어의 발치된 잇몸에서 치은종이 관찰 되었다. 치은종은 조직병리학적 특징에 따라 섬유소성, 골화성, 극세포성 그리고 거대세포성 치은종으로 나눌 수 있으며, 본 증례의 경우 광학현미경학적 관찰결과 골화성 치은종으로 진단되었다. 그러나 특이하게도 골화성 치은종 병변과 함께 몇몇의 거대세포가 관찰 되었다. 거대세포는 파골세포와 유사한 형태를 가지고 있으며, 더욱이 거대세포성 치은종의 경우 발치한 잇몸에서 주로 발생하는 것으로 보고되고 있다. 그러므로 골화성 치은종에 발생한 거대세포의 출현이유를 두 가지로 제시할 수 있겠다. 하나는, 치은종의 섬유모세포가 분화되어 형성된 골 성분을 거대세포가 파골세포처럼 탐식하기 위해 출현한 것으로 가정할 수 있으며, 다른 한편으로는 골화성 치은종의 주요 발생원인인 만성 치은염과 발치로 인한 손상 및 염증 등의 거대세포성 치은종의 발생 원인이 복합적으로 작용하여 발생한 혼합 치은종으로 판단할 수 있겠다. 이와 같은 이유로 거대세포가 골화성 치은종에 출현할 가능성이 있다고 판단되어지지만 현재까지 이와 같은 보고는 없었으며, 또한 턱에서 발생하는 거대세포를 포함하는 병변의 발병기전은 아직까지 불분명한 상태이므로 본 증례가 발병기전 연구에 도움이 될 것으로 사료된다. An epulis was occurred on gingiva of 11-year old female dog, Yorkshire terrier. Our case had feature of ossifying epulis but there were a few multi-nucleated giant cells (MGCs). MGCs had osteoclast-like appearance and giant cell epulis usually appears at the site of tooth extraction. Therefore, we suggest that appearance of MGCs in our case may be due to phagocytosis pre-formed osteoid/bone or our case may be mixed epulides of ossifying and giant cell epulis by mixed stimulation of chronic gingivitis and trauma and in flammation by tooth extraction. Thus, MGCs have possibility enough to appear in ossifying epulis, but ossifying epulis accompanying MGCs has not been reported. Therefore, our case may deserves an attention as an unique case and will be helpful to study pathogenesis of giant cell containing lesion of the jaw.
일부 젊은 연령층의 인유두종바이러스(Human Papillomavirus) 감염 위험요인간의 관련성 연구

Purpose : To investigate the prevalence and related risk factors of infection with human papillomavirus(HPV) in young adults, and the interrelationships among the risk factors, school-based survey was conducted in Busan. Methods : A total of 1,430 male and female students(aged 16-25) participated in the survey that included self-administered questionnaire and, for males, physician-performed collection of exfoliated genital cells, for females, selfcollection of vaginal cells. The prevalences of 25 HPV types were evaluated by a polymerase chain reaction-based assay. Results : HPV DNA detected more frequently in female students(l5.2%) than in male students(8.7%). In female students, currently smoking cigarettes(OR=3.8, 95% CI=1.7~8.3) and having had penetrative sexual intercourse(OR=12.7, 95% CI=7.2~22.2) were the significant risk factors for HPV infection; in male students, there was nothing to show statistical significance. Smoking rate was 53.8% in males and 17.7% in females, and 55.6% of male students and 25.9% of female students reported having had a sexual intercourse. Smokers were more likely to have had a sexual intercourse than nonsmokers(OR=4.0, 95% CI=2.5~6.2, males; OR=9.1, 95% CI=5.6`14.7, females). Conclusions : According to the strong interrelationship between sexual intercourse and smoking, multilateral behavioral intervention is needed to prevent infection with HPV.
Inhibitors of Tyrosinase and Melanogenesis from Galla rhois

Previously, a 50% aqueous methanol extract of Galla rhois was shown to be the most potent tyrosinase inhibitory activity with an IC_(50)(the concentration causing 50% inhibition of tyrosinase activity) of 0.2mg/ml of 205 crude drug extracts. To isolate tyrosinase inhibitors, the methanol extract was evaporated to a small volume in vacuo, and then partitioned stepwise with benzene and ethyl acetate(EtOAc). The EtOAc fraction was solubilized in 10% MeOH solution, and then fractionated successively by Diaion HP-20 and Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography, and preparative HPLC. Three phenolic compounds were isolated, and characterized as gallic acid(GA), methyl gallate(MG) and l,2,3,4,6-penta-O-galloyl-β-D-glucose(PGG) by UV, IR, ¹H-&¹³C-NMR, and FAB- MS spectroscopy. PGG(IC_(50)=50㎍/ml) showed a considerable inhibitory effect against mushroom tyrosinase, while GA(IC(50)=1.6mg/ml) and MG(IC_(50)=234l㎍/ml) did not show an appreciable effect. Meanwhile, MG inhibited greatly melanogenesis in a murine melanocyte cell line, Mel-Ab. MG and PGG showed typical noncompetitive inhibition patterns against mushroom tyrosinase. These results suggest that PGG and MG may be potentially useful as either anti-browning or anti-melanogenic agents in foods and cosmetics.
