Facile fabrication of platinum nanodots assembly core-silica shell nanosystems
( Diana ),유효종 한국공업화학회 2015 한국공업화학회 연구논문 초록집 Vol.2015 No.0
Nanosystems using platinum (Pt) nanodots assembly (multi-Pt nanoparticles, m-Pt) as the core and silica (SiO2) shells were successfully synthesized as m-Pt@SiO2 spherical nanoparticles (NPs) and m-Pt@SiO2 nanochains (NChs) by a reverse microemulsion (water-in-oil) based method. The kinetically controlled reduction of K2PtCl4 by the Brij35 surfactant within reverse micelles, followed by condensation of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS), led to the formation of multi-Pt nanodot core-slica shell systems. The reduction kinetics for the growth of coreshell systems were compared in both the presence of reducing agents and in the absence of supplementary agents, as well as the variation of water-to-surfactant ratio. To assemble Pt nanoparticles within in onedimensional silica matrix for m-Pt@SiO2 NChs, the pH of the reaction media was systematically changed.

Background and objective: Climate change is a current issue that need to be solved by innovation in environmental education. However, efforts specifically to develop a teaching material based on the learning needs of the students related to climate change has not been given attention. This study aims to describe the Pro-Environmental Behavior (PEB) of students as basis for the development of an educational material to be known as Climate Change Book Series (CCBS-US). Methods: It entailed a descriptive research design and survey method, involving a sample of 642 students in Jakarta and Semarang, Indonesia. The data were treated using descriptive statistics. Data analysis using ANOVA test to see the significant of the difference between each group. Results: The results indicate that the university students’ PEB score is high while the high school students’ PEB score is moderate. The lowest average score is found in aspects related to efforts in reducing garbage and recycling. Details of average score were Junior high school students (74.49), senior high school students (66.28), Faculty of Math and Science university students (73.69), Non-Faculty Math and Science university students (72.27). Conclusion: It is along these inputs that the CCBS-US must be developed as a learning material in environmental education. It is hoped that the results of this study, the developed CCBS-US can significantly empower students' PEB scores in classroom learning.

Bacillus pumilus 2.g isolated from gembus, an Indonesian fermented soybean cake, secretes several proteases that have strong fibrinolytic activities. A fibrinolytic enzyme with an apparent molecular weight of 20 kDa was purified from the culture supernatant of B. pumilus 2.g by sequential application of ammonium sulfate precipitation, ion-exchange chromatography, and hydrophobic chromatography. The partially purified enzyme was stable between pH 5 and pH 9 and temperature of less than 60 ℃. Fibrinolytic activity was increased by 5 mM MgCl2 and 5 mM CaCl2 but inhibited by 1 mM phenylmethylsulfonyl fluoride (PMSF), 1 mM sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), and 1 mM ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA). The partially purified enzyme quickly degraded the α and β chains of fibrinogen but was unable to degrade the γ hain.

The aim of the study was to examine lipid profiles, arterial stiffness (AS), and carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT), in 55 women with RA without overt cardiovascular disease (CVD) treated with rituximab (RTX).The following parameters were recorded before and 24 weeks after RTX therapy (2 infusions of 500 or 1,000 mg RTX intravenously, fortnightly): plasma total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), triglycerides, DAS 28-ESR, serum C-reactive protein (CRP), RF IgM, AS (SI - stiffness index, RI – reflection index) by digital volume pulse contour analysis (Micro Medical, UK), and common cIMT by high-resolution B-mode carotid ultrasound. Based on the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) criteria, patients were divided into two groups: 1) moderate/good response to RTX therapy after 24 weeks (41 patients, 75%), 2) no response to RTX therapy (14 patients, 25%). Effective RTX therapy resulted in 9% increase in TC, 23% increase in HDL-C and 14% decrease in atherogenic index, 57% decrease in SI and 24% decrease in RI. We observed a 9% decrease of cIMTmax at 24 weeks. The improvement of cardiovascular parameters was accompanied by statistically significant decreases of CRP, ESR, RF IgM, and DAS 28 in group 1 (P < 0.05). There were no significant changes in lipid profile, AS parameters, and cIMT in group 2. Two infusions of RTX in case of moderate/good EULAR effect of therapy exerted favorable effects on lipid profile, AS and cIMT in women with RA without overt CVD.

Objectives: To explore alcohol perceptions and their association hazardous alcohol use in the populations of Alberta, Canada and Queensland, Australia. Methods: Data from 2500 participants of the 2013 Alberta Survey and the 2013 Queensland Social Survey was analyzed. Regression analyses were used to explore the association between alcohol perceptions and its association with hazardous alcohol use. Results: Greater hazardous alcohol use was found in Queenslanders than Albertans (p<0.001). Overall, people with hazardous alcohol were less likely to believe that alcohol use contributes to health problems (odds ratio [OR], 0.46; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.27 to 0.78; p<0.01) and to a higher risk of injuries (OR, 0.54; 95% CI, 0.33 to 0.90; p<0.05). Albertans with hazardous alcohol use were less likely to believe that alcohol contributes to health problems (OR, 0.48; 95% CI, 0.26 to 0.92; p<0.05) and were also less likely to choose a highly effective strategy as the best way for the government to reduce alcohol problems (OR, 0.63; 95% CI, 0.43 to 0.91; p=0.01). Queenslanders with hazardous alcohol use were less likely to believe that alcohol was a major contributor to injury (OR, 0.39; 95% CI, 0.20 to 0.77; p<0.01). Conclusions: Our results suggest that people with hazardous alcohol use tend to underestimate the negative effect of alcohol consumption on health and its contribution to injuries. In addition, Albertans with hazardous alcohol use were less in favor of strategies considered highly effective to reduce alcohol harm, probably because they perceive them as a potential threat to their own alcohol consumption. These findings represent valuable sources of information for local health authorities and policymakers when designing suitable strategies to target alcohol-related problems.
