A NEW APPROACH ON THE CURVATURE DEPENDENT ENERGY FOR ELASTIC CURVES IN A LIE GROUP

Elastica is known as classical curve that is a solution of variational problem, which minimize a thin inextensible wire's bending energy. Studies on elastica has been conducted in Euclidean space firstly, then it has been extended to Riemannian manifold by giving different characterizations. In this paper, we focus on energy of the elastic curve in a Lie group. We attepmt to compute its energy by using geometric description of the curvature and the torsion of the trajectory of the elastic curve of the trajectory of the moving particle in the Lie group. Finally, we also investigate the relation between energy of the elastic curve and energy of the same curve in Frenet vector fields in the Lie group.

In this study, we firstly define equations of motion based on the traditional model Newtonian mechanics in terms of the Frenet frame adapted to the trajectory of the moving particle in Lie groups. Then, we compute energy on the moving particle in resultant force field by using geometrical description of the curvature and torsion of the trajectory belonging to the particle. We also investigate the relation between energy on the moving particle in different force fields and energy on the particle in Frenet vector fields.
Effect of surface finishing treatments on the color stability of CAD/CAM materials

PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different surface finishing processes on the color stabilities of lithium disilicate glass-ceramics, zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate ceramics, and resin nanoceramics after artificial ageing. MATERIALS AND METHODS. 216 samples were prepared from 3 different CAD/CAM materials (LAVA Ultimate, IPS e.max CAD, VITA Suprinity) with A1 HT color at a size of 14 × 12 mm and a thickness of 0.5 ± 0.05 mm. Color measurements of the samples were performed with a spectrophotometer using color parameters and CIE Lab color system on a gray backing between baseline color and after 5000 cycles of artificial ageing in 4 stages (i.e. the first measurement before the treatment, the second measurement after polishing, the third measurement after cement application, and the fourth measurement after artificial ageing). The results were evaluated using the Variance analysis and Fisher's LSD test. RESULTS. Resin nanoceramics (LU) exhibited higher color change values than zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate (VS) and lithium disilicate (EC) ceramics after artificial ageing. Manual polishing and glazing resulted in similar color change for LU and VS (P>.05). In the EC group, glazing provided statistically different results as compared to the manual polishing and control groups (P<.05). Among the ceramic groups, color change values of the subgroup, which was treated by glazing, of the zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate (VS) and lithium disilicate (EC) samples were below the clinically acceptable level (ΔE < 3.5). CONCLUSION. The lowest color change for all stages was observed in Vita Suprinity.

Evaluation of success criteria for temporomandibular joint arthrocentesis

Objectives: The aim of this study was to use four sets of success criteria to evaluate the outcomes of arthrocentesis treatment with hyaluronic acid injection in patients with internal derangement (ID) of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Materials and Methods: The study included 40 patients diagnosed with unilateral Wilkes stage III TMJ dysfunction. Clinical parameters, including maximum mouth opening (MMO) and pain during function, were evaluated preoperatively, 6 months, and 1 year after TMJ arthrocentesis. Outcomes were assessed and compared using four sets of success criteria from the following: the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS; MMO ≥35 mm and visual analogue scale [VAS] score ≤3), Murakami et al.’s criteria (MMO >38 mm and VAS score <2), Emshoff and Rudisch criteria (MMO ≥35 mm and >50% pain reduction), and patient self-reports (self-evaluation of treatment as successful or unsuccessful). Results: Significant improvements in MMO and pain reduction during function were observed between the preoperative period and 6 months and 1 year postoperatively (P<0.01). The success rates of treatment determined using AAOMS (52.5%), Emshoff and Rudisch criteria (57.5%), and selfreported patient criteria (40.0%) were similar. Application of the Murakami et al. criteria reported the lowest success rate (12.5%). Conclusion: The AAOMS and Emshoff and Rudisch criteria are consistent with patient expectations and can be used to assess treatment efficacy.
