Background: Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) is a heterogeneous type of neoplasm of the lymphatic system. To have a more accurate and early diagnosis we need to know signs, symptoms and complications of lymphoma in early stages besides pathology and immunohistochemistry. Materials and Methods: This prospective study included 110 cases of NHL that were followed since February 2012 till November 2013. Biopsies were taken from all the patients besides bone marrow study. Signs and symptoms were categorized into "B" symptoms, general, lymphadenopathy and extranodal involvement and we compared the frequencies by stage and grade. Results: Of 110 cases, 88.9% had B-cell and 11.1% T-cell type with mean age $48.5{\pm}18.6$ years. "B" symptoms and lymphadenopathy were more common in men. Cervical lymphadenopathy was the most common sign (44.8%). and hematologic, bone marrow, bone and neurologic lesions were the most common complications. All complications were more common in males. "B" symptoms were seen mostly in stage III, general signs and symptoms in stage IV, and lymphadenopathy in stage II. Intermediate grade was also the most common in all signs and symptoms. In this study 12 (10.9%) patients had relapse, with neurologic and bone marrow as the most common sites of tumor recurrence. Conclusions: There is a meaningful relationship between male gender for NHL and anemia that can be due in part to higher incidence of bone marrow involvement and stage IV disease in male cases. We also found a strong relationship between low grade NHL and age. On the other hand extranodal involvement is more common in female groups.

We present a spray pyrolysis method that can form amorphous Al2O3 thin flms for dielectric applications using low-cost precursor materials. The efect of the precursor molar ratios on morphological and electrical properties of spray-coated Al2O3 thin flms was studied. For a low molar ratio of acetylacetone (AcAc) to Al ions (AcAc/Al), inhomogeneous morphology with the formation of large particles was observed. The increase in AcAc/Al improves the coverage of Al by AcAc molecules, which prevents the premature solidifcation of Al ions, resulting in compact flms with smooth surfaces. On the contrary, excessive AcAc for the high AcAc/Al leaves cracks in the flms due to the evaporation of AcAc during flm deposition. Electrical measurements on metal–insulator-metal (MIM) structures showed consistent results, and superior dielectric performance with sufciently low leakage current was observed for the optimized AcAc/Al values.
Prevention of Nausea and Vomiting: Methods and Utility after Surgery in Cancer Patients?
Firoozabadi, Mehdi Dehghani,Rahmani, Hossein Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.7
Most cancer patients experience nausea and vomiting after surgery. Today, many methods of treatment have been developed and used for the control of such symptoms. The most important are drug therapy, relaxation, oxygen therapy and gas therapy. In addition, dexamethasone, massage therapy and using a Venturi mask have also proven effective. Due to the nature of gas consumption which leads to nausea it is recommended that use of N2O in the operating room be avoided or applied in combination with oxygen or other gases with fewer complications.
Original Articles : Orbital Doppler Evaluation of Blood Flow Velocities in Optic Neuritis
( Mehdi Karami ),( Mohsen Janghorbani ),( Alireza Dehghani ),( Maryam Riahinejad ) 대한안과학회 2012 Korean Journal of Ophthalmology Vol.26 No.2
Purpose: To evaluate orbital blood flow velocities and optic nerve diameter with Doppler and gray-scale sonography in patients with acute unilateral optic neuritis (ON). Methods: Orbital Doppler and gray-scale sonography was performed in 46 eyes of 23 patients aged 19- to 47-years with acute unilateral ON. ON was diagnosed by an ophthalmologist on the basis of clinical presentation, presence of decreased visual acuity and assessment of visual evoked potentials. The peak systolic velocity (PSV) and end-diastolic velocity (EDV), as well as the resistance index (RI) and pulsatile index (PI) of the ophthalmic artery (OA), central retinal artery (CRA), posterior ciliary arteries (PCAs) and optic nerve diameter were measured in both eyes. We compared results from affected and unaffected eyes using the paired t-test. The area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves was used to assess the diagnosis of ON based on measured blood flow parameters of the OA, CRA and PCAs and optic nerve diameter. Results: The mean (standard deviation) optic nerve diameter in eyes with ON was 4.1 (0.8) mm, which was significantly larger than the 3.0 (0.4) mm diameter measured in unaffected control eyes (p<0.001). There were no differences in average PSV, EDV, RI, or PI of the OA and CRA between affected and unaffected eyes (p > 0.05). The mean RI in the PCAs was slightly lower in the eyes with ON than in the contralateral eyes (0.60 vs. 0.64, p<0.05). The area under the ROC curves indicated that optic nerve diameter was the best parameter for the diagnosis of ON. Conclusions: Optic nerve diameter was related to ON, but orbital blood flow parameters were not.
Mothproofing of wool fabric utilizing ZnO nanoparticles optimized by statistical models
ALI NAZARI,Majid Montazer,Mehdi Dehghani-Zahedani 한국공업화학회 2014 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.20 No.6
Wool with high strength, elasticity, and resiliency has good dye-ability and comfort however could bedigested by keratinolytic enzymes. In this research, wool fabric pre-treated with BTCA and then treatedwith nano ZnO. The treated fabrics showed mothproofing activity against the larvae of carpet beetle,Anthrenus verbasci, as feeding protein fibers. The role of both BTCA and nano ZnO concentrations onmothproofing properties of the wool fabric were optimized using statistical model of response surfacemethodology (RSM). Mothproofing was investigated through assessing wool weight loss during feedingby A. verbasci. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) was utilized to obtain the optimum models for woolwith mothproofing properties. The damages on the wool surface confirmed with scanning electronmicroscopy and digital camera images. Further transmission and absorbance spectra approved the UVprotection properties of the nano ZnO treated wool in both UVA and UVB.

Objectives: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic led to increased mortality rates. To assess this impact, this ecological study aimed to estimate the excess death counts in southern Iran. Methods: The study obtained weekly death counts by linking the National Death Registry and Medical Care Monitoring Center repositories. The P-score was initially estimated using a simple method that involved calculating the difference between the observed and expected death counts. The interrupted time series analysis was then used to calculate the mean relative risk (RR) of death during the first year of the pandemic. Results: Our study found that there were 5571 excess deaths from all causes (P-score=33.29%) during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, with 48.03% of these deaths directly related to COVID-19. The pandemic was found to increase the risk of death from all causes (RR, 1.26; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.19 to 1.33), as well as in specific age groups such as those aged 35-49 (RR, 1.21; 95% CI, 1.12 to 1.32), 50-64 (RR, 1.38; 95% CI, 1.28 to 1.49), and ≥65 (RR, 1.29; 95% CI, 1.12 to 1.32) years old. Furthermore, there was an increased risk of death from cardiovascular diseases (RR, 1.17; 95% CI, 1.11 to 1.22).Conclusions: There was a 26% increase in the death count in southern Iran during the COVID-19 pandemic. More than half of these excess deaths were not directly related to COVID-19, but rather other causes, with cardiovascular diseases being a major contributor.

Somayeh Hajiahmadi,Azin Shayganfar,Mohsen Janghorbani,Masjedi Esfahani Mahsa,Mehdi Mahnam,Nagar Bakhtiarvand,Ramin Sami,Nilufar Khademi,Mehrnegar Dehghani 대한감염학회 2021 Infection and Chemotherapy Vol.53 No.2
Background: The novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) continues to wreak havoc worldwide. This study assessed the ability of chest computed tomography (CT) severity score (CSS) to predict intensive care unit (ICU) admission and mortality in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia. Materials and Methods: A total of 192 consecutive patients with COVID-19 pneumonia aged more than 20 years and typical CT findings and reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction positive admitted in a tertiary hospital were included. Clinical symptoms at admission and short-term outcome were obtained. A semi-quantitative scoring system was used to evaluate the parenchymal involvement. The association between CSS, disease severity, and outcomes were evaluated. Prediction of CSS was assessed with the area under the receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curves. Results: The incidence of admission to ICU was 22.8% in men and 14.1% in women. CSS was related to ICU admission and mortality. Areas under the ROC curves were 0.764 for total CSS. Using a stepwise binary logistic regression model, gender, age, oxygen saturation, and CSS had a significant independent relationship with ICU admission and death. Patients with CSS ≥12.5 had about four-time risk of ICU admission and death (odds ratio 1.66, 95% confidence interval 1.66 – 9.25). The multivariate regression analysis showed the superiority of CSS over other clinical information and co-morbidities. Conclusion: CSS was a strong predictor of progression to ICU admission and death and there was a substantial role of non-contrast chest CT imaging in the presence of typical features for COVID-19 pneumonia as a reliable predictor of clinical severity and patient’s outcome.

The present study examined a moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) bioreactor on a laboratory scale for simultaneous removal of atrazine, organic carbon, and nutrients from wastewater. The maximum removal efficiency of atrazine, chemical oxygen demand (COD), total phosphorus (TP) and total nitrogen (TN) were 83.57%, 90.36%, 90.74% and 87.93 respectively. Increasing salinity up to 40 g/L NaCl in influent flow could inhibit atrazine biodegradation process strongly in the MBBR reactor. Results showed that MBBR is so suitable process for efficiently biodegrading of atrazine and nitrogen removal process was based on the simultaneous nitrification-denitrification (SND) process.
