The quiet Sun average Doppler shift of coronal lines up to 2 MK

<P>Context. The average Doppler shift shown by spectral lines formed from the chromosphere to the corona reveals important information on the mass and energy balance of the solar atmosphere, providing an important observational constraint to any models of the solar corona. Previous spectroscopic observations of vacuum ultra-violet (VUV) lines have revealed a persistent average wavelength shift of lines formed at temperatures up to 1 MK. At higher temperatures, the behaviour is still essentially unknown. Aims. Here we analyse combined SUMER (Solar Ultraviolet Measurements of Emitted Radiation)/SoHO (Solar and Heliospheric Observatory) and EIS (EUV Imaging Spectrometer)/Hinode observations of the quiet Sun around disk centre to determine, for the first time, the average Doppler shift of several spectral lines formed between 1 and 2 MK, where the largest part of the quiet coronal emission is formed. Methods. The measurements are based on a novel technique applied to EIS spectra to measure the difference in Doppler shift between lines formed at different temperatures. Simultaneous wavelength-calibrated SUMER spectra allow establishing the absolute value at the reference temperature of T≈1 MK. Results. The average line shifts at 1 MK <T <1.8 MK are modestly, but clearly bluer than those observed at 1 MK. By accepting an average blue shift of about (−1.8 ±0.6) km s<SUP>−1</SUP> at 1 MK (as provided by SUMER measurements), this translates into a maximum Doppler shift of (−4.4±2.2) km s<SUP>−1</SUP> around 1.8 MK. The measured value appears to decrease to about (−1.3 ± 2.6) kms<SUP>−1</SUP> at the Fe XV formation temperature of 2.1 MK. Conclusions. The measured average Doppler shift between 0.01 and 2.1 MK, for which we provide a parametrisation, appears to be qualitatively and roughly quantitatively consistent with what foreseen by 3D coronal models where heating is produced by dissipation of currents induced by photospheric motions and by reconnection with emerging magnetic flux.</P>

Influence of TiO<sub>2</sub> Nanoparticle Filler on the Properties of PET and PLA Nanocomposites

Two types of polymers were tested in this study; poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) as a synthetic example and poly(lactic acid) (PLA) as a natural polymer. DSC analyses showed that the use of nanofiller increased the degree of crystallinity ($X_c$) of both PET and PLA polymers, but the effect was more noticeable on PET nanocomposites. The crystallization of PLA and PET nanocomposites occurred at higher temperatures in comparison to neat polymers. According to dynamic mechanical-thermal analysis (DMTA), the damping factor of PET/$TiO_2$ nanoparticles decreased compared to the neat matrix, but for PLA nanocomposites the opposite trend was observed. Results of the mechanical test showed that for both PET and PLA nanocomposites, the most successful toughening effect was observed at 3 wt% loading of $TiO_2$ nanoparticles. SEM micrographs revealed uniform distribution of $TiO_2$ nanoparticles at 1 and 3 wt% loading levels. The results of WAXD spectra explained that the polymorphs of PLA and PET was not affected by $TiO_2$ nanoparticles. UV-visible spectra showed that $TiO_2$ nanocomposite films had high ultraviolet shielding compared to neat polymer, but there was significant reduction in transparency.
Investigating the Effect of Cultural Intelligence on the Tourists` Intercultural Interactions

Culture refers to the manner of thinking and work performance among the individuals and is deeply rooted in the presumptions, beliefs and symbols of each society. Certainly, people will also highly care for their cultural belongings. People of cities like Soltanieh who have constant interactions with their guests from different cultures because of tourism attractions in their city should have and enhance in themselves a capability so that they may cause the minimum damages and restrictions in the inter-cultural interactions. Having three aspects, namely Cognitive aspect, Motivational aspect and Behavioral aspect, cultural intelligence indicates a capability by which the people may experience the best interaction when encountering unfamiliar cultures. Such capability in tourism, whether in the position of a tourist or a guest, causes people to show the best possible behavioral responses and to manage the mutual interpretations when encountering other people and cultural phenomena by having a general understanding of cultures and their positions. Using surveying method, in this paper we study Soltanieh City as one of the important tourism centers of Iran. Spearman Correlation Coefficient and Friedman Rank Test were used for statistical study. The results indicate that enhancement of cultural intelligence affects on the increase of tourists` intercultural interactions efficiency.

This paper deals with some basic notions of convex analysis and convex optimization via convex semi-closed functions. A decoupling-type result and also a sandwich theorem are proved. As a consequence of the sandwich theorem, we get a convex sub-differential sum rule and two separation results. Finally, the derived convex sub-differential sum rule is applied to solving the convex programming problem.

Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of medication therapy combined with transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) in improving problem-solving and emotion regulation abilities of patients with bipolar disorder (BD) type I. Methods: This is a randomized clinical trial conducted on 30 patients with BD I, randomly assigned into two groups of Medication (n = 15, receiving mood stabilizers including 2−5 tablets of lithium 300 mg, sodium valproate 200 mg, and carbamazepine 200 mg) and Medication + tDCS (n = 15, receiving mood stabilizers plus tDCS with 2 mA intensity over the right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex for 10 days, two sessions per day each for 20 minutes). The Tower of London (TOL) test and Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) were used for assessments before, immediately, and 3 months after interventions. Results: There was a significant difference between groups in total ERQ (p = 0.001) and its cognitive reappraisal domain (p = 0.000) which were increased, but the difference was not significant in its expressive suppression domain (p > 0.05). After 3 months, their level decreased. In examining problem-solving variable, the combined therapy could significantly reduce only the total number of errors under TOL test (p = 0.00), but it remained unchanged after 3 months. Conclusion: Medication therapy plus tDCS is effective in improving problem-solving and emotional regulation (cognitive reappraisal) skills of patients with BD I.
