로웰 리버만의 <피아노 소나타 1번>에 드러난 신고전주의적 특징에 관한 연구

로웰 리버만(L. Liebermann, 1961- )은 우리와 동시대를 살아가는 작곡가로 그의 작품들은 미국에서 수많은 연주자에 의해 연주되며 여러 음반으로 제작되고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 리버만의 작품 중 비교적 덜 알려진 <피아노 소나타 1번>을 분석함으로써 연주자들에게 곡에 대한 정보를 제공하여 레퍼토리 확장에 도움을 주는 데 있다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 관련 문헌과 음악 분석을 통해 리버만 <피아노 소나타 1번>에 드러난 신고전주의적 특징에 대해 살펴보았고 더 나아가 고전 시대를 대표하는 모차르트와 베토벤의 피아노 소나타, 신고전주의적 작곡 성향이 드러난 스트라빈스키, 바르톡, 프로코피예프의 피아노 소나타와의 비교를 통해 전통적인 요소가 어떻게 수용, 발전되었는지에 대해 알아보았다. 연구 결과 리버만의 <피아노 소나타 1번>이 고전 시대에서 가져온 것은 모티브의 사용과 발전, 조성의 유지, 소나타라는 장르이고 이러한 틀 안에 불협화음과 신조성의 사용을 통해 신고전주의적 특징을 가지고 있는 면에서는 스트라빈스키, 바르톡, 프로코피예프의 소나타와 유사점을 찾아볼 수 있었다. 이러한 이해를 바탕으로 리버만의 <피아노 소나타 1번>이 현대음악에 익숙하지 않은 학생이나 연주자들의 레퍼토리로 연주될 수 있기를 기대한다. Lowell Liebermann is a contemporary American composer of our time, and his works are played and recorded by numerous performers in the United States. The purpose of this study is to provide information about Liebermann’s Piano Sonata No. 1, which is relatively lesser-known than his other works, and help pianists to expand their repertoire. In this study, I examined neoclassical characteristics of Liebermann’s Piano Sonata No. 1 through musical analysis and related literature. Furthermore, by comparing Liebermann’s Piano Sonata No. 1 with piano sonatas of W. A. Mozart and L. v. Beethoven, who are representative in the classical period, and sonatas of I. Stravinsky, B. Bartók, and S. Prokofiev which composed in neoclassical style, I found out how traditional elements of piano sonata adopted and developed from classical period to Liebermann’s time. As a result, the use of motive and its developmental procedure, tonal music, sonata as a genre in Liebermann’s sonata came from classical period. On the other hand, neoclassical elements such as dissonances and neotonality that are used in Liebermann’s sonata are also shown in the works of I. Stravinsky, B. Bartók, and S. Prokofiev. Based on this comprehension, I expect Liebermann’s Piano Sonata No. 1 could be played as a repertoire of students and pianists who are not familiar with modern music.
한역 중관유식(中觀唯識) 문헌에서 드러나는 『사익범천소문경(思益梵天所問經)』의 영향 고찰

This study is inspired by the fact that, in spite of the progress of the translation and commentarial work through concrete textual analysis, the Brahmaparipṛcchā(Bp), well known to have been composed and circulated in India, has not actually gone through a thorough analysis and examination of its whole quotations. Therefore, referring to the commentarial work of Koshima Kiyotaka (五島淸隆), a matchless scholar of this scripture, in the process of its being translated into Japanese, this article purports to examine the concrete characteristic citation of the Bp in the Mādhyamika and Yogācāra texts translated into Chinese. Through the exemplary passages having received most attention in Mādhyamika and Yogācāra treatises, its influence on Indian Buddhism was probed. As a result, the non-dual perspective of the “no attainment of nirvana with no attainment of samsara”(不得生死不得涅槃) in the Bp was ascertained to have influenced on both of the Mādhyamika and Yogācāra schools. In the Yogācāra treatises, this is used as a scriptural evidence for the development of the content of the theory of the three natures of consciousness only. This study, as a apprehension of the influence and tendency of the Bp in Indian Buddhism, becomes a basis for a comprehensive study of comparing and analysing the influence and characteristics of the Bp in the commentarial works developed in the subsequent history of East Asian Buddhism.

<P>Lamellar microdomain orientation in polystyrene-<I>b</I>-poly(methyl methacrylate) (PS-<I>b</I>-PMMA) films was controlled by a solvent vapor annealing process, where the high-molecular-weight block copolymer (BCP) was used to self-assemble in a large period of 105 nm. A neutral solvent annealing with tetrahydrofuran vapor screened the difference in the surface energy between the two blocks and the interfacial interactions of the substrate with each block, leading to the substrate-independent perpendicular orientation of lamellar microdomains. Together with thermal annealing of the solvent-annealed BCP film, we demonstrate that highly ordered line arrays of perpendicularly oriented lamellae were well guided in topographic line and disk photoresist patterns composed of the PS-attractive cross-linked copolymer, where the interlamellar <I>d</I>-spacing compliant to the patterns was dependent on the confinement types.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/mamobx/2014/mamobx.2014.47.issue-12/ma500716f/production/images/medium/ma-2014-00716f_0009.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/ma500716f'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>

<P>To determine the mechanisms of spermatogenesis, it is essential to identify and characterize germ cell-specific genes. Here we describe a protein encoded by a novel germ cell-specific gene, Mm.290718/ZFP541, identified from the mouse spermatocyte UniGene library. The protein contains specific motifs and domains potentially involved in DNA binding and chromatin reorganization. An antibody against Mm.290718/ZFP541 revealed the existence of the protein in testicular spermatogenic cells (159 kDa) but not testicular and mature sperm. Immunostaining analysis of cells at various stages of spermatogenesis consistently showed that the protein is present in spermatocytes and round spermatids only. Transfection assays and immunofluorescence studies indicate that the protein is localized specifically in the nucleus. Proteomic analyses performed to explore the functional characteristics of Mm.290718/ZFP541 showed that the protein forms a unique complex. Other major components of the complex included histone deacetylase 1 (HDAC1) and heat-shock protein A2. Disappearance of Mm.290718/ZFP541 was highly correlated with hyperacetylation in spermatids during spermatogenesis, and specific domains of the protein were involved in the regulation of interactions and nuclear localization of HDAC1. Furthermore, we found that premature hyperacetylation, induced by an HDAC inhibitor, is associated with an alteration in the integrity of Mm.290718/ZFP541 in spermatogenic cells. Our results collectively suggest that the Mm.290718/ZFP541 complex is implicated in chromatin remodeling during spermatogenesis, and we provide further information on the previously unknown molecular mechanism. Consequently, we re-designate Mm.290718/ZFP541 as 'SHIP1' representing spermatogenic cell HDAC-interacting protein 1.</P>
REM Sleep Behavior Disorder among Veterans with and without Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

Objective Among veterans, the prevalence of rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder (RBD) is higher than among the general population, and some evidence suggests that this is related to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The purpose of this study was to determine whether the frequency of RBD differs depending on the presence of PTSD or trauma.Methods Patients who underwent nocturnal polysomnography (PSG) and sleep-related questionnaire surveys at the Veteran Health Service Medical Center were reviewed retrospectively. Based on patients with PTSD (n=20; 100% male; 67.9±8.5 years of age), we matched patients exposed to trauma without PTSD (n23; 100% male; age 64.0±13.4) and patients without trauma (n=21; 100% male; age 59.86±10.9).Results PTSD patients reported dream enactment behavior more than the trauma-exposed group without PTSD or the control group (p=0.006). After adjusting for age, there were more RBD patients in the PTSD group than in the trauma exposed group (p=0.049).Conclusion The results showed that RBD occurred significantly more in veterans with PTSD than those exposed to trauma, which suggests that there may be a pathophysiological association between PTSD and RBD.

This article examines the spatial and temporal changes of North Korean (NK) migration by analyzing the interactive process between NKs’ efforts to cross borders amidst changing geopolitical and economic circumstances and the activities at the domestic, local, state, and international levels to manage displacement from a gender perspective. In doing so, I argue that the border between North Korea and China became violent and that NK migrations became spatially gendered and class-stratified. The proportion of NK women entering South Korea remains high, primarily due to the secondary migration of those who have long resided in China in de facto marriage relationships with Chinese men. In contrast, among recent direct defectors, NK men constitute a significant proportion and they often play an active role in family migration.
