        Amelioration of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia by Costunolide and Dehydrocostus Lactone in Wistar Rats

        Purpose: Sesquiterpene lactones, which are found in plants of the Asteraceae family, contain costunolide (CO) and dehydrocostus lactone (DCL) as indicator material. CO, in particular, has been reported to possess varied pharmacological activity, including anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antioxidant effects. This study was designed to characterize the effects of CO and DCL on benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH). Materials and Methods: Rats were injected subcutaneously daily for 8 weeks with 5 mg/kg testosterone to induce prostatic hyperplasia. Wistar rats were randomly divided into 5 groups of 10 animals each and received the following treatment: I. Normal control group; II. BPH-induced group; III. CO group (0.075 mg/kg); IV. DCL group (0.075 mg/kg); and V. Finasteride group (0.8 mg/kg). After treatment, changes in prostate weight and serum biochemical indices, serum dihydrotestosterone level, and mRNA levels of BCL2 were measured and histological examinations performed. Results: Absolute and relative prostate weight in the indicator material treated groups, as well as prostate volume, decreased compared to those in the disease-induced group. Epithelial cell thickness increased significantly in the disease-induced group, with a significant decrease being observed in the CO group. The level of the anti-apoptotic protein BCL2 (B-cell lymphoma 2) tended to decrease to a greater extent in the DCL group than in the disease-induced group. Conclusions: In this study, we confirmed that the indicator materials (CO and DCL) can help suppress the development of BPH.

      • Atomic layer-deposited (HfZrO<sub>4</sub>)<sub>1−x</sub>(SiO<sub>2</sub>)<sub>x</sub> thin films for gate stack applications

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Hafnium‑zirconium silicate (HfZr-silicate, (HfZrO<SUB>4</SUB>)<SUB>1−x</SUB>(SiO<SUB>2</SUB>)<SUB>x</SUB>) thin films were developed for advanced gate stack applications by incorporating Si atoms into virgin hafnium‑zirconium oxide (HfZrO<SUB>4</SUB>) via atomic-layer deposition, yielding films with varying Si content (x=0.10, 0.15, and 0.20). Electron conduction behavior was responsible for a reduction in the gate leakage current of HfZr-silicate compared to pure HfZrO<SUB>4</SUB> films and was clearly explained by a conduction-electron generation model. Furthermore, HfZr-silicate-based structures exhibited less charge trapping and featured improved interfacial stability when in contact with Si substrate compared to virgin HfZrO<SUB>4</SUB>, although they both experienced bias and thermal stress. These phenomena were associated with the formation of an interfacial layer (IL) between virgin HfZrO<SUB>4</SUB> and the Si substrate, while there was no IL for the HfZr-silicate. With regard to the electrical properties of the films with varying Si incorporation, film with 15% SiO<SUB>2</SUB> was recommended as a high dielectric constant candidate due to its superior electrical properties and outstanding durability.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> (HfZrO<SUB>4</SUB>)<SUB>1−x</SUB>(SiO<SUB>2</SUB>)<SUB>x</SUB> dielectric films were developed and characterized. </LI> <LI> Thermal stabilities were enhanced with incorporation of SiO<SUB>2</SUB>. </LI> <LI> A film with 15% SiO<SUB>2</SUB> was demonstrated to be a high dielectric constant candidate. </LI> </UL> </P>

      • Fabrication and Characteristics of High Mobility InSnZnO Thin Film Transistors

        <P>In this paper, we describe the fabrication of thin film transistors (TFTs) with amorphous indium-tin-zinc-oxide (ITZO) as the active material. A transparent ITZO channel layer was formed under an optimized oxygen partial pressure (OPP (%) = O-2/(Ar + O-2)) and subsequent annealing process. The electrical properties exhibited by this device include field-effect mobility (mu(eff)), sub-threshold swing (SS), and on/off current ratio (I-ON/OFF) values of 28.97 cm(2)/V.s, 0.2 V/decade, and 2.64 x 10(7), respectively. The average transmittance values for each OPP condition in the visible range were greater than 80%. The positive gate bias stress resulted in a positive threshold voltage (V-th) shift in the transfer curves and degraded the parameters mu(eff) and SS. These phenomena originated from electron trapping from the ITZO channel layer into the oxide/ITZO interface trap sites.</P>

      • Microstructure guided multi-scale liquid patterning on an open surface

        <P>Liquid patterning is a quintessential aspect in cell-based screening. While there are a variety of methods to handle microliquids utilizing surface treatments, complex microfluidic systems, and automated dispensing, most of the stated methods are both expensive and difficult to implement. Here, we present a fast multi-scale microliquid-patterning method on an open surface using embossed microstructures without surface modification. Arrays of micropillars can trap microliquids when a bulk drop is swept by an elastic sweeper on polystyrene (PS) substrates. The patterning mechanism on a basic form of a 2 × 2 rectangular array of circular pillars is analyzed theoretically and verified with experiments. Nanoliter-to-microliter volumes of liquids are patterned into various shapes by arranging the pillars based on the analysis. Furthermore, an array of geometrically modified pillars can capture approximately 8000 droplets on a large substrate (55 mm × 55 mm) in one step. Given the simplistic method of wipe patterning, the proposed platform can be utilized in both manual benchtop and automated settings. We will provide proof of concept experiments of single colony isolation using nanoliter-scale liquid patterning and of human angiogenic vessel formation using sequential patterning of microliter-scale liquids.</P>

        Untiy 엔진은 2D 게임 엔진 중 가장 높은 점유율을 보유하고 있다. Untiy를 활용하여 C#과 게임 UI/UX와 몬스터 알고리즘, 게임설계 이해, Untiy 자체 기능을 심층적으로 배울 수 있게 된다. 본 논문은 Untiy를 활용하여 모바일 서바이벌 게임을 설계 및 구현하면서 전반적인 게임제작 진행 방식을 배우고, Untiy 엔진의 기능을 사용하고자 한다. The Untiy engine has the highest share of 2D game engines. Using Untiy, you will be able to learn C#, game UI/UX, monster algorithm, game design understanding, and Untiys own functions in depth. This paper aims to learn the overall game production progression method while designing and implementing mobile survival games using Untiy, and to use the functions of the Untiy engine.

        A Study on the Electrical Characteristic Analysis of c-Si Solar Cell Diodes

        A study on the electrical characteristic analysis of solar cell diodes under experimental conditions of varying temperature and frequency has been conducted. From the current-voltage (I-V) measurements, at the room temperature, we obtained the ideality factor (n) for Space Charge Region (SCR) and Quasi-Neutral Region (QNR) of 3.02 and 1.76, respectively. Characteristics showed that the value of n (at SCR) decreases with rising temperature and n (at QNR) increases with the same conditions. These are due to not only the sharply increased SCR current flow but the activated carrier recombination in the bulk region caused by defects such as contamination, dangling bonds. In addition, from the I-V measurements implemented to confirm the junction uniformity of cells, the average current dispersion was 40.87% and 10.59% at the region of SCR and QNR, respectively. These phenomena were caused by the pyramidal textured junction structure formed to improve the light absorption on the device’s front surface, and these affect to the total diode current flow. These defect and textured junction structure will be causes that solar cell diodes have non-ideal electrical characteristics compared with general p-n junction diodes. Also, through the capacitance-voltage (C-V) measurements under the frequency of 180 ㎑, we confirmed that the value of built-in potential is 0.63 V.

        The emission difference of SOx, NOx, TSP and dioxine was investigated in commercial CFB boiler, when coal and three kinds of RDFs were co-combusted respectively. The each mixing ratio was 7.5% RPF, 7.5% RDF and 10% SDF with coal. Emitting dioxine concentration was proportioned to the chlorine content of RDF. No trouble was found on normal boiler operation during co-combustion. These RPF, SDF and RDF could be determined to be a good alternative fuel of general coal.

        In this study, we perform the optimization of trailing arm bush in a vehicle rear suspension to improve the ride and handling performance. A design problem was formulated considering 2 objective functions and 7 constraints related to vehicle ride and handling performance. PIAnO, one of the PIDO (Process Integration and Design Optimization) tool, was used to automate analysis procedures and perform a design optimization. In order to assess relation between performances and design variables, we perform the DOE (Design of Experiments). To find the optimal solution, we used Progressive quadratic response surface method (PQRSM), one of the design optimization techniques equipped in PIAnO. As an optimization result, we got an optimal solution and could improve lateral force steer off-center by 43.0% while decreasing brake compliance at wheel center by 8.1%.

        The injection molded part quality is affected much by the mold cooling so that it is necessary to optimize the mold cooling circuit in the part design step prior to the mold design step. Optimization of the mold cooling circuit has been proposed previously in various ways. In this work, optimization of the mold cooling circuit was automated by a commercial PIDO (Process Integration and Design Optimization) tool, PIAnO for a large automotive part such as bumpers and instrument panels. The cooling channels and baffle tubes were located on the offset profile equidistant from the part surface. The locations of the cooling channels and the baffle tubes were automatically generated and input to the mold cooling CAE program, Moldflow MPI Cool. The objective function was the deviation of the mold surface temperature from a given design temperature. Design variables in the optimization were the depths and distances of the cooling channels and the baffle tubes. Optimization was carried out by PQRSM. To reduce the cost in the optimization, the same problem was optimized by the DOE and metamodeling techniques supplied by PIAnO, and the results were compared with the one by PQRSM. As the result, more uniform temperature distribution compared with the initial design was obtained, and a satisfactory solution could be made at a lower cost in the approximate optimization.

        FBXW7-mediated ERK3 degradation regulates the proliferation of lung cancer cells

        Extracellular signal-regulated kinase 3 (ERK3) is an atypical member of the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) family, members of which play essential roles in diverse cellular processes during carcinogenesis, including cell proliferation, differentiation, migration, and invasion. Unlike other MAPKs, ERK3 is an unstable protein with a short half-life. Although deubiquitination of ERK3 has been suggested to regulate the activity, its ubiquitination has not been described in the literature. Here, we report that FBXW7 (F-box and WD repeat domain-containing 7) acts as a ubiquitination E3 ligase for ERK3. Mammalian two-hybrid assay and immunoprecipitation results demonstrated that ERK3 is a novel binding partner of FBXW7. Furthermore, complex formation between ERK3 and the S-phase kinase-associated protein 1 (SKP1)-cullin 1-F-box protein (SCF) E3 ligase resulted in the destabilization of ERK3 via a ubiquitination-mediated proteasomal degradation pathway, and FBXW7 depletion restored ERK3 protein levels by inhibiting this ubiquitination. The interaction between ERK3 and FBXW7 was driven by binding between the C34D of ERK3, especially at Thr417 and Thr421, and the WD40 domain of FBXW7. A double mutant of ERK3 (Thr417 and Thr421 to alanine) abrogated FBXW7-mediated ubiquitination. Importantly, ERK3 knockdown inhibited the proliferation of lung cancer cells by regulating the G1/S-phase transition of the cell cycle. These results show that FBXW7-mediated ERK3 destabilization suppresses lung cancer cell proliferation in vitro.
