The supercavitating vehicle is an underwater vehicle that is surrounded almost completely by a supercavity to reduce hydrodynamic drag substantially. Since the cruise speed of the vehicle is much higher than that of conventional submarines, the drag force is huge and a buckling may occur. The buckling phenomenon is analyzed in this study through static and dynamic approaches. Critical buckling load and pressure as well as buckling mode shapes are calculated using static buckling analysis and a stability map is obtained from dynamic buckling analysis. When the finite element method (FEM) is used for the buckling analysis, the solver requires a linear static solver and an eigenvalue solver. In this study, these two solvers are integrated and a consolidated buckling analysis module is constructed. Furthermore, Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm is combined in the buckling analysis module to perform a design optimization computation of a simplified supercavitating vehicle. The simplified configuration includes cylindrical shell structure with three stiffeners. The target for the design optimization process is to minimize total weight while maintaining the given structure buckling-free.

Chewing and swallowing disorders such as dysphagia are common in the elderly people whose number is reported to continuously increase throughout the world. With this trend, the aging populations have recently become the global focus of substantial research interest in a variety of industrial fields and the food industry is also no exception. Further studies are also necessary to establish the guidelines or criteria for controlling the food texture for the elderly with different living and cultural backgrounds. An experimental attempt was made to bridge the gap between instrumental and sensory texture in a model solid food system, providing a reference texture range for the elderly diets. For doing so, uniaxial compression was applied to measure the instrumental hardness of corn starch gels that was correlated with their sensory properties perceived by the elderly aged 60 and older. A polynomial trend line was satisfactorily obtained with the formula (y=0.2188x2-5.7917x+38.14) describing the relationship between instrumental hardness and starch concentration. When the instrumental hardness (stress) was correlated with the sensory hardness, a linear correlation was observed with a coefficient of determination (R2=0.879). However, the use of logarithmic transformation exhibited the improved correlation of coefficients. A fairly linear correlation (R2>0.96) was thus observed between the instrumental and sensory hardness by a semi-logarithmic relationship known as Weber-Fechner’s law scale. In principal component analysis, two principal components that accounted for 86.71% of the total variance, separated the gel samples in terms of hardness/springiness and moistness, respectively. The categories of the starch gel samples were subdivided into five groups with different stress ranges. As a result, five categories of food texture could be successfully provided with corresponding stress range and consumer languages that can be used as a reference tool to establish the guideline or criteria for developing the elderly foods.
Synthesis of Ibuprofen Conjugated Molecular Transporter Capable of Enhanced Brain Penetration

<P>Based on the strong evidences between inflammation and neurodegeneration, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen, are considered as effective agents to reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. However, the clinical use of NSAIDs in these diseases is limited by low brain distribution. In this study, we had synthesized ibuprofen conjugate which has good brain penetration.<I> S</I>-(+)-Ibuprofen was covalently attached to a molecular transporter having FITC and eight terminal guanidine groups. This conjugate showed good cellular uptake property in live cells. It was also injected into a mouse and the distribution of the compound was examined in each organ. The conjugate was well delivered to mouse brain indicating the conjugate is able to cross the blood-brain barrier. Our novel synthetic ibuprofen conjugate will hopefully deliver other NSAIDs into brain and is therefore applicable to the neurodegenerative diseases treatment or prevention.</P>

<P>Practical applicationsAs the elderly population is increasing throughout the world, there are growing interests in developing food products for older adults with difficulties in chewing and swallowing in the food industry. In this study, the instrumental texture of solid foods in a starch gel system was correlated with the sensory properties perceived by the people aged 60 and older. Based on the principal component analysis, the corn starch gel samples with different hardness were classified into the five groups that were presented with the ranges of stress values. The results obtained in this study may thus provide valuable information on the standard criteria and guidelines customized for the elderly.</P>

초공동 수중 운동체의 구조물은 수중 운동 시에 유동 마찰에 의해 생성되는 높은 축 방향 하중과 추력의 조합에 의해 좌굴 현상이 발생하게 되며, 이는 구조물의 손상과 연결된다. 따라서 운용하고자 하는 수동 운동체의 속도 범위에서 이러한 좌굴이 발생되지 않도록 구조 설계가 요구되며, 이는 유한요소 해석을 이용한 정적 및 동적 좌굴 해석으로 좌굴 예측이 가능하다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 좌굴 해석을 위한 기초적인 소개와 유한요소 좌굴 해석에 필요한 고유치 해법을 소개하고, 좌굴 해석에 앞서 고유치 해법을 통한 고유 진동수 및 모드 형상을 DIAMOND/IPSAP 프로그램을 통해 예측하여 보았다. Supercavitating vehicles which cruise under water undergo high longitudinal force caused by thrust and drag. These combination may cause structural buckling. Static and dynamic buckling analysis method by using FEM can be used to predict this structural failure behavior. In this paper, some principles which include method for solution eigenvalue problem for buckling analysis are introduced. And before buckling analysis, we predicted some mode shape and natural frequency of cylindrical shell by using DIAMOND/IPSAP eigen-solver.

Consumer's interest in sustainable livestock farming methods has grown in response to concerns for the environment and animal welfare. The purpose of this study is to examine the different influences of sustainability product information on sensory characteristics and purchase behaviors. To accomplish this aim, the study used salami, which is an Italian-style sausage processed by fermentation and drying. Three different types of information were provided: salami made from the pork of an antibiotic-free pig (SMAFP), of an animal welfare pig (SMAWP), and of a grazing pig (SMGP). This study was conducted as an off-line experiment with Korean participants (n=140). As a result, there were sensory differences according to the sustainability information. For the SMAFP, it had a significant difference in, sourness (p<0.05). With the SMAWP, there was a difference in gumminess (p<0.10), and the SMGP had significant differences in sourness (p<0.01), sweetness (p<0.01), andmoisture (p<0.05). Moreover, the purchase intention and willingness to pay were significantly higher when the sustainability information was given. Especially, among the three types of salamis, participants were willing to pay the most for the SMAWP. This is one of the first consumer studies to investigate sensory evaluation and purchase behavior for various types of sustainable livestock production. These results contribute by helping sustainable meat producers and marketers become aware of the kind of sustainable information to which consumers are sensitive.
