Current state of research about acupuncture for the treatment of COVID-19: A scoping review

        Chen Chen,Jie Zhan,Hao Wen,Xiaojing Wei,Lu Ding,Chenyang Tao,Cui Li,Peiming Zhang,Yuyuan Tang,Jing-chun Zeng,Li-ming Lu 한국한의학연구원 2021 Integrative Medicine Research Vol.10 No.-

Background Since the outbreak of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), acupuncture has been widely used in the treatment of COVID-19. The research community has responded rapidly and has already published many research articles about this topic. Methods We searched PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library as well as CNKI, Wanfang and VIP from January 1, 2020 to July 31, 2021. The dates of publication, language of publication, methodological characteristics and the key findings were analyzed separately. The data are presented as bar graphs, structured tables and figures. Results In this scoping review, 16 research articles were included: 7 case reports, 6 observational studies, 1 review, 1 RCT and 1 nonrandomized clinical trial. The majority of the articles (81.3%) were published by Chinese scholars, 12.5% articles were by scholars in the United States, and 6.3% articles were by scholars in Iran. The included studies reported that acupuncture could alleviate the symptoms of COVID-19 patients, shorten their hospitalization days, and is effective for the elderly. There were no side effects reported. The most frequent acupoints used were LI4, PC6, ST36 and KI3. They reported many obstacles in implementing acupuncture therapy for treating COVID-19 patients. Conclusion Acupuncture has a good effect for the treatment of COVID-19, but high-quality evidence support is still lacking. Coupled with the difficulties that acupuncturists experienced during the process of treatment, the promotion of acupuncture treatment for COVID-19 faces many obstacles. Dynamic modeling and analysis of axial vibration of a coupled propeller and shaft system

Chenyang Li,Xiuchang Huang,Hongxing Hua 대한기계학회 2016 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.30 No.7

The dynamic and acoustic characteristics of a coupled propeller and shaft system which is modeled by the transfer matrix method are studied. The elasticity of the propeller is taken into consideration by employing the equivalent reduced modeling method. Thus the influence of the elastic propeller on the vibro-acoustic responses of the coupled system is investigated. To reduce the axial vibration of the coupled propeller-shaft system, the influence and location of the vibration isolator on the structural and acoustic responses is presented. Simulation results demonstrate that utilizing the relationship between the natural frequency of the propeller and the resonance frequency range of the shaft can control the vibration of the coupled system without other vibration control method. Utilizing a vibration isolator is another effective way to control vibration. The optimal position for the isolator installed between the shaft and the thrust bearing is investigated.

Scholar’s Corner: Declare the Independence of Confucianism from the State: Rethinking “Outer Kingliness” in a Democratic Era

        ( Chenyang Li ) 성균관대학교 유교문화연구소 2019 儒敎文化硏究(中文版) Vol.0 No.32

Since antiquity, Confucians have sought to work with the state in order to implement their philosophy through state sponsorship. And yet, whenever Confucians have sought state sponsorship, naturally the government has adopted Confucian philosophy selectively to serve its own purposes and thus compromised the integrity of Confucianism. Throughout Chinese history, countless Confucian officials attempted to help rulers to do the right thing. They often failed when their advice went against the fundamental interest of rulers. On reflection, this outcome should not be unexpected. The primary goal of rulers is to solidify power; the primary concern of Confucianismis the wellbeing of the people. When the two conflict, it is highly un- likely for a government to prioritize Confucian ideals. In a democratic era, Confucianism can influence society without joining the state apparatus. It can and must promote its social ideals through grassroots democratic participation rather than leave itself to the mercy of state sponsorship.

        Xinyu Li,Chenyang Xie,Qiuping Huang,Eun Mi Hwang,Bin Jin,Zhewen Dong,Zhen Zeng,Wen He,Qi Qi Pang,Jia-Le Song 한국식품영양과학회 2021 한국식품영양과학회 학술대회발표집 Vol.2021 No.10

To investigate the effect of Bifidobacterium, C. butyricum and L. plantarum on the letrozole induced PCOS rats. All female SD rats were randomly divided into five groups, modeling PCOS rats, and respectively given intragastric administration of Bifidobacterium, C. butyricum, and L. plantarum solution (1×109 CFU/mL) for 30 days, and observed body weight (BW). The serum levels of testosterone (T), LH, E2, FSH, INS, TG, TC, LDL, HDL were determined by ELISA kits. The levels of TGF-β1, smad4, smad3, p-smad3, p-smad2, smad2 were detected by Western Blotting. Compared with normal group, the BW, T, LH, INS, TG, TC LDL-C in PCOS rats were significantly increased, and the levels of E2, FSH and HDL-C were significantly decreased. Administrated with different probiotics can decrease the BW, T, LH, INS, TG, TC,LDL-C, and the levels of E2, FSH and HDL-C increased in PCOS rats. All probiotics significantly decreased the expression of p-smad2, p-smad3, smad4, TGF-β1. Our results showed that Bifidobacterium, C. butyricum and L. plantarum were all effective in regulating hormone levels, improving IR and dyslipidemia, and improving ovarian fibrosis in PCOS rats.

      • L-Theanine (LTA) ameliorated clinical symptoms in Letrozole-induced Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) Rats

        Qiuping Huang,Chenyang Xie,Xinyu Li,Bin Jin,Qi Pang,Jia-Le Song 한국식품영양과학회 2021 한국식품영양과학회 학술대회발표집 Vol.2021 No.10

To explore the effect of LTA on clinical symptoms in letrozole-induced PCOS rats. Female SD rats were given letrozole for 28 consecutive days to induce the PCOS model. The PCOS rats were given LTA intervention(50 and 200 mg/kg) for 30 days. Changes in body weight and estrous cycle were observed. Serum levels of hormones and lipids were measured by ELISA assay. Protein levels of α-SMA, p-smad2, smad2, p-smad3, smad3 and smad4 were detected by Western Blotting assay. Compared with the normal group, the relative mass of abdominal fat, T, LH, INS, TG, TC and LDL-C were significantly increased, and the levels of E2, FSH and HDL-C were significantly decreased in PCOS rats. The protein levels of p-smad2, p-smad3, smad4 and α-SMA were significantly upregulated in the ovaries of PCOS rats(P<0.05). While the levels of T, LH, INS, TG, TC, LDL-C were decreased and E2, FSH and HDL-C level were increased by LTA treatment. Meanwhile, LTA reduced the protein levels of p-smad2, p-smad3, smad4, and α-SMA in the ovaries. The results suggested LTA was effective in regulating the hormone levels, improving metabolism, and alleviating ovarian fibrosis in PCOS rats.

Pseudolaric acid B inhibits PAX2 expression through Wnt signaling and induces BAX expression, therefore promoting apoptosis in HeLa cervical cancer cells

        Defeng Guan,Chenyang Li,Xiao Lv,Yongxiu Yang 대한부인종양학회 2019 Journal of Gynecologic Oncology Vol.30 No.5

Objectives: Pseudolaric acid B (PAB) has been shown to inhibit the growth of various tumor cells, but the molecular details of its function are still unknown. This study investigated the molecular mechanisms by which PAB induces apoptosis in HeLa cells. Methods: The 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assays were performed to investigate the effect of PAB treatment in various cervical cancer cell lines. Annexin V/propidium iodide staining combined with flow cytometry and Hoechst 33258 staining were used to assess PAB-induced apoptosis. Additionally, we performed bioinformatics analyses and identified a paired box 2 (PAX2) binding site on the BAX promoter. We then validated the binding using luciferase and chromatin immunoprecipitation assays. Finally, western blotting assays were used to investigate PAB effect on the Wnt signaling and the involved signaling molecules. Results: PAB promotes apoptosis and downregulates PAX2 expression in HeLa cells in a time- and concentration-dependent manner. PAX2 binds to the promoter of BAX and inhibits its expression; therefore, PAX2 inhibition is associated with increased levels of BAX, which induces apoptosis of HeLa cells via the mitochondrial pathway. Additionally, PAB inhibits classical Wnt signaling. Conclusion: PAB effectively inhibits Wnt signaling and PAX2 expression, and increases BAX levels, which induce apoptosis in HeLa cells. Therefore, PAB is a promising natural molecule for the treatment of cervical cancer.

Lactiplantibacillus sp. G6 isolated from goose intestine as starter culture for degrading nitrite and improving quality in Chinese pickle fermentation

        Ziya Lan,Huiling Huang,Chenyang Liu,Jincai Li,Xueling Li 한국식품과학회 2024 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.33 No.6

Animal intestines is considered as a source of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) that have potential to decrease the nitrite level during fermentation of food such as pickles. It was hypothesized that optimized level of LAB has a high capacity to degrade nitrite during Chinese pickle fermentation and benefit a higher acceptability of the Chinese pickle product. This study aims to investigate the performance of a goose intestine-isolated LAB strain G6 under the species Lactiplantibacillus plantarum as a starter culture of Chinese pickles. The results showed that Lactiplantibacillus sp. G6 had a nitrite degradation rate close to 100% under the MRS broth condition of 25 °C, 2% inoculum volume and pH at 5. As a starter culture for Chinese pickle, this strain was able to achieve a higher LABs amount, lower nitrite residue after fermentation, compared with the group without the starter, which implicates its feasibility of applying on fermented food for reducing nitrite level.

Time Series Data Cleaning Method Based on Optimized ELM Prediction Constraints

        Guohui Ding,Yueyi Zhu,Chenyang Li,Jinwei Wang,Ru Wei,Zhaoyu Liu 한국정보처리학회 2023 Journal of information processing systems Vol.19 No.2

Affected by external factors, errors in time series data collected by sensors are common. Using the traditionalmethod of constraining the speed change rate to clean the errors can get good performance. However, they areonly limited to the data of stable changing speed because of fixed constraint rules. Actually, data with unevenchanging speed is common in practice. To solve this problem, an online cleaning algorithm for time series databased on dynamic speed change rate constraints is proposed in this paper. Since time series data usually changesperiodically, we use the extreme learning machine to learn the law of speed changes from past data and predictthe speed ranges that change over time to detect the data. In order to realize online data repair, a dual-windowmechanism is proposed to transform the global optimal into the local optimal, and the traditional minimumchange principle and median theorem are applied in the selection of the repair strategy. Aiming at the problemthat the repair method based on the minimum change principle cannot correct consecutive abnormal points, through quantitative analysis, it is believed that the repair strategy should be the boundary of the repaircandidate set. The experimental results obtained on the dataset show that the method proposed in this paper canget a better repair effect.
