Amphoteric polymers have brought to papermakers' attention gradually. In this paper, a series of amphoteric starches with different cationic and anionic degree of substitution (DS) are prepared. Better product has been selected and used under different condition.<br/> As retention and drainage aids, amphoteric starches were used in 'shorter fiber length, weak strength and poor drainage bleached AQ-Soda wheat straw pulp. In neutral and alkaline papermaking system, when amphoteric starches contain 0.024anionic degree of substitution (DS), it is shown that the higher the cationic degree of substitution (DS) in amphoteric starches, the better the filler retention. The filler retention is improved 12.5%. 30.3%, and 35.1 % and 32.5% respectively by adding 1 % amphoteric starch LS-L2 -I (0.034), LS-L2-2 (0.040). LS-L2-3 (0.047) and LS-L2-4 (0.052). But the strength of handsheets is affected a little. By adding 2% Al2 (S04) J and 1.5% LS-L2-3 at pH 7.5, filler retention can be improved from 38% to 80%. and breaking length of sheet only decreases 3.2%. As dry strengthening aids, amphoteric starches were used in eucalyptus APMP. Amphoteric starches are used in eucalyptus APMP. The amphoteric starch LS-L2-2 is better dry strength aid. Adding 1% LS-L2-2 can improve breaking length 24.5%. burst index 42.9%. tear index 38.8%. folding endurance and density of the handsheets.

The scaffold protein IQGAP1 shows elevated levels in several cancer types, but its expression in hepatocellular carcinoma is unknown. We found that 58% of human hepatocellular carcinoma tissue samples had increased IQGAP1 expression compared to adjacent normal tissue. Overexpressing IQGAP1 raised the in vivo tumorigenicity of hepatocellular carcinoma cells, and forced overexpression of IQGAP1 in vitro stimulated cell proliferation. Cell growth was reduced by knockdown or mutation of IQGAP1, or by treatment of cells with a phosphotidylinositol 3-kinase inhibitor. To determine the mechanism by which IQGAP1 overexpression affected hepatocellular carcinoma cells, we confirmed its interaction in these cells with mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), a serine/threonine kinase that integrates signals about nutrient and energy status with downstream effectors that influence cell division. In addition, we discovered a new interaction involving IQGAP1, mTOR and Akt, which is a downstream target of mTOR. Akt phosphorylation on Ser-473, which is catalyzed by mTOR and required for Akt activation, increased with increasing amounts of IQGAP1, and decreased with IQGAP1 mutation. We hypothesize that IQGAP1 is a scaffold that facilitates mTOR and Akt interaction.

Antioxidative Activities of Hydrolysates from Duck Egg White Using Enzymatic Hydrolysis

Duck egg white (DEW) hydrolysates were prepared by five enzymes (papain, trypsin, chymotrypsin, alcalase, and flavourzyme) and their antioxidant activities investigated in this study. DEW hydrolyzed with papain (DEWHP) had the highest peptide content among the five enzymatic treatments. Besides, the peptide content of DEWHP increased when the enzyme to substrate ratio (E/S ratio) increased. It was suggested that higher E/S ratio contributed to elevate the degree of hydrolysis of DEW effectively. Similar results were also obtained by Tricine-SDS-PAGE. In addition, SDS-PAGE patterns indicated papain was the only one amongst all enzymes with the ability to hydrolyze DEW. In antioxidant properties, DEWHP showed more than 70% of inhibitory activity on linoleic acid peroxidation and superoxide anion scavenging. Moreover, the $Fe^{2+}$ chelating effect of DEWHP was greater than 90%, while no significant difference was observed in DPPH radical scavenging and reducing ability. The results of peptide contents, antioxidant activities and electrophoresis suggested that the higher the peptide content, the stronger the antioxidant activities in DEWHP.

The studies on the lateral-torsional buckling of cantilever steel beam with tip lateral elastic brace are rarely reported. The total potential energy is first established for the lateral-torsional buckling of cantilever steel beam with tip lateral elastic brace under uniform and concentrated load. The modal trial function of the lateral displacement and torsional angle are expressed as trigonometric function combination with six terms. By introducing new dimensionless parameters, the analytical solution of the dimensionless buckling equation for the lateral-torsional buckling of cantilever steel beam with tip lateral elastic brace is obtained. With the help of 1stOpt software which is mathematical optimization analysis software, the non-dimensional critical moment formula of the lateral-torsional buckling of cantilever beam with tip lateral elastic brace is obtained. Then, the accuracy of the formula is verified by ADINA finite element software. The results show that the given critical moment formula is of high accuracy. It provides convenient and simple design method for practical engineering.
Application of Highly Charged PAC and Polyamine admixture in Neutral Papermaking

Studied that the relationship between the charge density of PAC and its alkalinity, as well as the influences of PAC in paper sizing. Study results showed that PAC with higher charge density brought higher sizing degree when the same amount of Al₂O₃ content was dosed. However, there was no direct relationship between PAC charge density and its alkalinity, and higher PAC alkalinity can’t improve its charge density. It was also found that the admixture (PPAC) of polyamine and PAC had higher charge density than PAC. The effects of PPAC on DRS and RAKD sizing were better than PAC sizing, when dosage and other sizing condition were the same.
SNPs of Excision Repair Cross Complementing Group 5 and Gastric Cancer Risk in Chinese Populations

We conducted a case-control study to determine the association between several potential SNPs of excision repair cross complementing group 5 (XPG) and gastric cancer susceptibility, and roles of XPG polymorphisms in combination with H.pylori infection in determining risk of gastric cancer. In our study, we collected 337 newly diagnosed gastric cancer cases and 347 health controls. Three SNPs of XPG, rs2296147T>C, rs2094258C>T and rs873601G>A, were genotyped using the Taqman real-time PCR method with a 7900 HT sequence detector system. H. pylori infection was diagnosed by ELISA. By multivariate logistic regression analysis, the rs2296147 CC genotype was associated with a decreased risk of gastric cancer (OR=0.52, 95% CI=0.27-0.97), and rs2094258 TT was associated with elevated risk (OR=2.13, 95% CI=1.22-3.35). Positive H.pylori individuals with rs2094258 TT genotypes demonstrated increased risk of gastric cancer (OR=2.13, 95% CI=1.22-3.35), while rs2296147 CC was associated with lower risk among patients with negative H.pylori (OR=0.45, 95%CI=0.22-0.89). Our findings suggested that XPG polymorphisms might contribute to risk of gastric cancer among Chinese populations, but the effect needs to be further validated by larger sample size studies.
