        The injector-based regenerative supercritical organic Rankine cycle

        In order to improve the thermodynamic performance of the Supercritical organic Rankine cycle (SORC), the regenerative supercritical organic Rankine cycle with an injector (RORC) is presented. For the moderate temperature of waste heat, the thermodynamic performance of RORC and SORC are investigated by using the working fluid R123. The effects of extraction pressure, expander inlet temperature, expander inlet pressure and condensing temperature on the net power output and the thermal efficiency have been analyzed. The net power output of RORC is greater than one of SORC when the extraction pressure is lower than 0.45 MPa. When the extraction pressure is 0.6 MPa, the efficiency of RORC reaches the maximum (16.06%), which is 0.66% higher than one of SORC. This reveals that the performance of RORC is better than that of SORC.

      • Effects of Sodium Valproate on the Growth of Human Ovarian Cancer Cell Line HO8910

        To explore a possible new treatment for human ovarian cancer, we studied the effects of sodium valproate on the growth of the HO8910 human cell line. HO8910 cells were cultured in vitro and treated with different concentrations of sodium valproate. Cell proliferation, cell cycling, and apoptosis were measured by flow cytometry, cell morphology under a microscope, and expression levels of WWOX and P27 by Western blotting and RT-PCR. Tumor xenografts were established to determine in vivo effects of sodium valproate. Our results showed that cell proliferation was decreased with increasing concentration of sodium valproate, with features of cytoplasmic retraction and floating cells. Moreover, cell cycle analysis revealed a higher apoptosis rate and $G_0/G_1$ phase in the sodium valproate experimental group than in the control group. In addition, protein expression levels of WWOX and P27 were elevated. Importantly, sodium valproate decreased in vivo xenograft tumor burden and up-regulated WWOX and P27 expression in nude mice. In conclusion, sodium valproate might play a role in inhibition and control of ovarian cancer cell line HO8910 by inhibiting cell proliferation, interfering with the cell cycle and promoting apoptosis, so that it may be effective in the clinical treatment of ovarian cancer.

        Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification Assay Targeting the femA Gene for Rapid Detection of Staphylococcus aureus from Clinical and Food Samples

        In this study, a loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) method to rapidly detect Staphylococcus aureus strains was developed and evaluated by extensively applying a large number of S. aureus isolates from clinical and food samples. Six primers were specially designed for recognizing eight distinct sequences on the species-specific femA gene of S. aureus. The detection limits were 100 fg DNA/tube and 104 CFU/ml. The LAMP assay was applied to 432 S. aureus strains isolated from 118 clinical and 314 food samples. Total detection rates for the LAMP and polymerase chain reaction assays were 98.4% (306/311) and 89.4% (278/311), respectively.

      • Horizontal hydrodynamic coupling between shuttle tanker and FPSO arranged side-by-side

        Side-by-side offloading operations are widely utilized in engineering practice. The hydrodynamic interactions between two vessels play a crucial role in safe operation. This study focuses on the coupled effects between two floating bodies positioned side-by-side as a shuttle tanker-FPSO (floating production, storage and offloading) system. Several wave directions with different side-by-side distances are studied in order to obtain the variation tendency of the horizontal hydrodynamic coefficients, motion responses and mean drift forces. It is obtained that the coupled hydrodynamics between two vessels is evidently distinguished from the single body case with shielding and exaggerating effects, especially for sway and yaw directions. The resonance frequency and the peak amplitude are closely related with side-by-side separation distance. In addition, the horizontal hydrodynamics of the shuttle tanker is more susceptible to coupled effects in beam waves. It is suggested to expand the gap distance reasonably in order to reduce the coupled drift forces effectively. Attention should also be paid to the second peaks caused by hydrodynamic coupling. Since the horizontal mean drift forces are the most mainly concerned forces to be counteracted in dynamic positioning (DP) system and mooring system, prudent prediction is beneficial in saving consumed power of DP system and reducing tension of mooring lines.

      • Real-Time Target Tracking and Obstacle Avoidance for Mobile Robots using Two Cameras

        This paper proposes an image processing approach for real-time target tracking and obstacle avoidance for mobile robot navigation in an indoor environment using two cameras. Several image processing techniques which include the averaging filter, edge-detection, erosion and dilation, and color segmentation are combined to find the target and obstacles. Then one can compute the angular position of the detected target and obstacle related to the mobile robot. The two cameras are utilized to calculate the relative distance of the target and obstacle from the mobile robot. According to the distance, one can determine the relationship of the target and obstacle to the mobile robot. The best target tracking path and obstacle avoidance path can be determined by different behavior modes. Therefore, the mobile robot plans a collision-free and successful track target to complete the patrol routine. Finally, the practical experiments demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed schemes.

        연구논문(硏究論文) : 한말 일제 초 서울 동막 객주의 정미업 진출과 경영 -동일정미소의 『일기』(1919) 분석을 중심으로-

        이 글은 늦어도 19세기 후반부터 서울 한강변 동막에서 상인, 객주로 활동해 온 김씨 집안에서 1910년에 석유 발동기와 철제의 전동장치, 작업장치를 갖춘 동일정미소를 설립·운영한 사례를 검토한 것이다. 한말 일제 초의 정미업은 한국인 자본가가 다수 진출한 대표적인 제조공업의 하나인데 여기서는 이 집안의 장부를 이용하여 1910년대 동일정미소의 공간과 시설, 원료(벼와 현미) 구입과 가공, 제품(현미와 백미) 판매, 고용과 임금, 은행거래와 자금운용, 일상 활동 등을 실증적으로 검토하였다. 이로써 한국인 상인, 객주의 부르주아지로의 변신, 상업 자본의 공업자본으로의 전환, 한국 자본주의의 내재적 기원과 연속적 성격을 말하는 것이 이 글의 일차적인 목표이다. The Kim merchant family were brokers [gaekju] operating in the Dongmak area Of Seoul next near the Han River. This article examines the establishment and operations of the Dongil Rice Mill of the Kim family, which used an oil engine or electric motor, transmission gears, and the operating systems from 1910. Rice polishing was one manufacturing industry that many Korean capitalists entered in the Hanmal and early colonial periods. Utilizing the account books of the Kim family, this paper examines the space and facilities of the Dongil Rice Mill, the purchasing and processing of raw materials (unhulled rice and brown unpolished rice), sale of products (brown rice and white rice), employment and wages, bank transactions and capital usage, and daily operations in the 1910s. An analysis of this information will show the transformation of Korean merchants and brokers into bourgeoisie and the conversion of commercial capital into industrial capital. In other words, this article demonstrates the internal origins and continuous nature of Korean capitalism.

        Equalizing charger based on multi‑windings transformer and voltage‑doubler rectifiers

        Energy storage batteries are currently composed of a large number of low-voltage battery cells. The state of charge of the cells is different due to the characteristic differences between cells. This causes some of the cells to be over-charged during charging and some of the cells to be over-discharging during discharging. To improve this phenomenon, this paper proposes a battery charger with an equalizing function that works during the charging and discharging processes. A performance comparison among the proposed charger and other similar topologies is carried out. The operational principle of the proposed strategy is analyzed and a control strategy with only a single voltage loop is proposed, which can guarantee two-stage charging. Experimental results show that the proposed charger can simultaneously achieve a high efficiency and the requirement of voltage equalization between cells.

        Experimental Research on the Behaviour of Eccentrically loaded SRC Columns Subjected to the ISO-834 Standard Fire Including a Cooling Phase

        This paper presents an experiment study of the post-fire behavior of five SRC columns under combination of axial eccentrical loading and fire. The experiment phenomena and mechanical response of the SRC column specimens during experiment, specifically loading, heating, cooling and post-fire loading were observed. The residual load bearing capacity, failure modes and vertical deformation were studied. With the test program, the effects of parameters such as the load ratio, the fire duration time and the steel ratio were studied. It is shown that the effects of temperature delay become more obvious with the increase of the depth from the heated surface. Some of the SRC column specimens failed during the cooling phase. For other specimens residual deformations were observed when the furnace temperature decreased to ambient temperature. The influence of some parameters including the load ratio, the fire duration time and the steel ratio on the post-fire load bearing capacities was discussed. It can be concluded that the residual load bearing capacity of the SRC columns decreases with the increase of the fire duration time and the load ratio, and increases with the increase of the steel ratio. Finally, a finite-element analysis model was developed to simulate the behavior of the tested SRC columns.

        Modeling and Analysis of Drift Error from Stator of A MSSG with Double Spherical Envelope Surfaces

        For the newly developing magnetically suspended sensitive gyroscope (MSSG) with double spherical envelope surfaces, it is necessary to analyze the causes of drift error to improve sensing accuracy. This paper builds the models of disturbing torques generated by stator assembly and process errors based on the geometric construction and running regularity of the MSSG, and further reveals the generation mechanism of the drift error. Then the drift error from a single stator magnetic pole is calculated quantitatively with the established model, and the key factors producing the drift error are further discussed. It is proposed that the main approaches in reducing the drift error from stator are guaranteeing the rotor envelope surface to be an ideal spherical and improving the controlling precision of rotor displacement. The common problems associated in a gyroscope with a spherical rotor can be effectively resolved by the proposed method. This analysis provides a reference for the structure optimization and error compensation of a MSSG.
