        Transmission ability of Zika virus with artificially infected Aedes albopictus in Korea

        Zika virus (ZIKV), a virus mainly occurring in South America, is now globally distributed. Understanding the pathogen transmission cycle in a vector is exceptionally important in developing disease control strategies. In this study, we performed ZIKV microinjection in Aedes albopictus (Skuese), to estimate its vertical and horizontal transmission ability. The virus infection rate was confirmed by real-time qPCR in the F1 generation derived from the ZIKV-injected Ae. albopictus. The minimum infection rate (MIR) of the F1 generation was highest when they were injected with the virus at 6–12 h (MIR: 16.1) and lowest at 12–24 h (MIR: 4.7) after feeding. In the developmental stage of the F1 progeny, MIR values were 1.0, 1.3, and 6.7 in each egg, larval, and adult stage, respectively, but ZIKV was not detected in the pupa stage. Virus transmission ability was not significantly different between the collection areas (Tongyeong and Jeju). Ae. albopictus demonstrated a high venereal transmission rate of ZIKV and was detected in males (6 pool/7 pool) and females (6 pool/7 pool), confirming that ZIKV can be transmitted from infected mosquitoes to uninfected mosquitoes via mating. This is the first study of the administration of a ZIKV microinjection to Ae. albopictus in Korea and suggests a possibility of a potential mechanism for the virus to survive during adverse conditions via vertical transmission.

      • 영동지방 강설량의 경년변화 특성 및 북태평양 SST와의 관계

        The characteristic of snowfall at Youngdong area is a key factor which determine the climatology of Korean peninsula. Although the location and characteristic of both cP and mT air-mass are an important factor which determine the snoefall, the Sea Surface Temperature(SST) of the North Pacific as a source of moisture can be a key factor too. To investigate the variation of anowfall at Youngdong area, therefore, we studied the intercorekation of variation between snowfall at Youngdong and SST at North Pacific. The period of dataset used in this study is for 18 years: from 1981 to 1998. The spatial distribution of SST at East-Sea depends on the movement of warm sea current caused by both Dongahn current and coastal current near Japan. According to this study, there were expanding of Siberia high pressure system toward both Younhaejoo and China, generation of mesoscale cyclone at Korean peninsula, and northerly wind which flow along coast line with partially north-easterly wind when there was a heavy snowfall at Youngdong area. This means that the high value of SST at Youngdong area during heavy snoefall dervie increasing of senible heat flux over sea surface, increasing of easterlly wind, and decreaseing of air pressure. These processes were the main factors which played an important role for the increasing of moisture convergence and snowfall at Youngdong area. For the occurrence of heavy snowfall at Youngdong area, the following synoptic conditions are required: 1) The high pressure system of Siberia should be expanded toward Yonhaejoo, 2) development of cyclone over northern part of Korea, 3) there is a cyclone at East-Sea. In thoses synoptic condition, there are north-easterly wind influenced by strong sensible and latent heat fluxes from warm sea surface to the lower atmosphere. There heavy snowfall at Youngdong area can be expected in those situation.

Also, the ability to control the brightness and period of on/off by detecting the car's existence. This light control circuit consists of road line lamp unit device. It can give a lot of solutions when the server, which controls the whole system, is operated through CDMA(Code-Division Multiple Access) network

      • 제주도 함덕연안해역의 해황·기상의 계절변동에 관한 연구

        Time series data of oceanic and meteorological elements observed by Marine Research Institute, Cheju National University are used to investigate seasonal variabilities in oceanic and atmospheric conditions. Heat ?? elements at the sea surface are derived from the data of the marine meteological reports by applying an aerodynamical bulk method. The seasonal variation of serveral heat flux elements were abnormal during the analysed period(June,1993 ∼ September, 1995), and it might be related to global-scale changes in the ocean-atmosphere system. And the oceanic condition of the northern Cheju Island was sensitive to the insolated solar radiation.

        사무소 건축물의 화재안전성능 평가모델

        This study is to suggest a performance assessment model for fire safety protection of office building. 34 assessment elements were chosen by interviewing with experts, reviewing several codes and existing relevant models. Assessment elements included in this model are comprised of five categories which are 'performance of protected area', 'performance of fire partition', 'safety performance of fire escape', 'performance of smoke control system' and 'performance of fire fighting equipment'. The weight of each element was computed by systematic approach like an AHP (analytical hierarchy process), which was conducted by experts who work in the field of fire protection. This model would be utilized as a part of assessment model for the overall performance of domestic office building.

      • 2차원 형상의 삼각 요소망 자동 생성 소프트웨어의 개발

        최근 20여년 동안 다양한 2차원 형상에 대한 다수의 자동 요소망 생성 알고리듬이 꾸준히 제시되어 왔으며 그중 삼각요소 망이 효율성과 조절이 용이하다는 점에서 주류를 이루어왔다. 본 연구에서는 절점의 배치, 요소의 형상, 대상 힘상의 독립성을 향상시키기 위해 기존의 삼각요소망 알고리듬을 전반적으로 수정하였다. 본 알고리듬은 절점 생성 부분과 요소 생성 부분으로 구성되어 있다. 제안된 알고리듬은 기하학적인 형상 안에서 적절한 절점 위치를 찾기 위해서 경계내의 점들을 검색하고 비교적 우수한 요소망을 구성하기 위해 절점의 위치를 최적화한다. 더욱이, 제안된 알고리듬은 다양하고 복잡한 2차원 대상물을 다루며 요소망 생성 속도가 기존의 알고리듬에 비해 10배정도 빠르다 대상물의 경계를 구성하는 부분이 완전 자동화되었으며 독립적인 요소망 소프트웨어로 바로 사용할 수 있도록 하였으며, 사용자의 편의성을 제공하고 있다. For last two decades numerous automatic mesh generation algorithms for various two dimensional objects have been introduced continuously and among them triangular mesh generation schemes have been majority because of efficiency and controllability. In our study, an existing triangular mesh generation algorithm is totally modified to more improve node distribution, element shape, and objects shape independency. It is composed of node generation part and element generation part. In order to find a suitable node position within geometry, the suggested algorithm searches desirable positions of points within boundary and optimizes node position to generate comparatively well-shaped elements. More over, the suggested algorithm handles various complex two dimensional objects and its meshing speed is almost on-tenth that of the exisiting triangulation mesh algorithms. It is fully automated in a sense of constructing object boundary and hence can be directly used as an independent meshing software. A well implemented user interface also incorporated into it.

      • 위상 및 음압 레벨제어를 이용한 스테레오 음상 확대에 관한 연구

        Three-dimensional sound is a technique for generating or recreating sounds so they are perceived as emanating from locations in a three-dimensional space. Three dimensional sound has the potential of increasing the feeling of realism in music or movie soundtracks. Three-dimensional sound effects depend on psychoacoustic spectral and phase cues being presented in a reproduced signal. In this paper we propose an effective algorithm for the sound image expansion in television system using stereo image enhancement techniques. In this algorithm, a lower frequency band sound is expanded by phase control and a higher frequency band sound is expanded by cross-talk cancelation. Compared to the other techniques of three-dimensional sound, the proposed algorithm use only two speakers to enhance the sound image expansion, while maintaining the original sound characteristics.
