Demand for housing has under the influence of change of population structure. Change of housing situation with population structure change was analyzed and is to anticipate demand for housing with people of all classes in the future. 2% census data of 1980 to 2000, form The Statistics Operation, was used to ascertain relationship between population structure change and housing demand. 1) Life Cycle Matrix(L.C.M) which represents relation between housebolders and the number of family members indicates that there was an increase in second household's housing made up of 3~4 family members. Also there is an increase in housing demand for old people in their late 60's especially for only one person household and an old couple household. 2) In terms of ownership of housing, there is demand for rental tenure of people who are 25-34 years old after marriage. In case of a group over 70 years old, they has a tendency to live in the rental house instead of having their own house. 3) The ratio of occupying their own room is over 70% revealing people live in better condition compared with those to in other provinces. there are still room for improvement. The findings show that demand for housing is met comparatively well in quantity and quality respects. However, it is anticipated that there will be much more demand for rentals and housings desinged for the elderly and for dwellers in rentals. It is necessary to plan a new housing policy to meet the several expected demands.
Lipopolysaccharide alleviates liver injury induced by thioacetamide in rats

Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is the major of outer membrane of gram-negative bacteria and one of the most potent microbial initiators of inflammation. From the previous study showed that exposure to a low dose of LPS renders animals tolerant to a lethal dose of LPS, and protects against the toxicity of various chemicals. However, the effects of LPS treatment in thioacetamide (TA) - induced liver injury remain largely unknown. Liver injury caused by various toxic chemicals such as carbon tetrachloride, alcohol, dimethylnitrosamine. Here, we induced rat liver injury by intraperitoneal injection of TA, a representative hepatic fibrosis inducer. In this study, we investigated the effects of LPS in TA group, LPS group, LPS/TA group and vehicle control group on Sprague-Dawely rats (five rats for each group). All rats at the end of the experiment were sacrificed, and liver and serum were obtained. Serological analysis and hematoxylin and eosin staining showed that LPS/TA co-treatment was associated with decrease of aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine transaminase (ALT) and totalbilirubin and fibrosis than in TA-treated rats. RT-PCR showed that the levels of IL-6 and Cox2 mRNA were lower in the liver of LPS/TA-cotreated rats than in TA-treated rats. There were no significant differences ALT, ALP, AST, total-bilirubin, IL-6 and Cox2 between vehicle control and LPS-treated rats. These results imply that LPS/TA cotreatment partially alleviates the TA-induced liver injury of rats by reducing inflammatory response.

This paper has considered how the poetry of Yi Sang as the most 'problematic' poet in Korean modern poetic history has operated as a poetic matter on the poets after him. Generally speaking, the inter-textuality among poetic texts has revealed itself as diverse and massive patterns. By focusing a discussion on Yi Sang's "A Crow's-eye-view Poem Number One" which has been a typical poem to show intensively features of his poetry, this paper has illuminated patterns of its inter-textuality to make a historical genealogy of his poetry. This method has allowed to trace a poetic genealogy from Youn Dong-joo in 1940s, Kim Soo-young, Kim Chun-soo in 1950~60s, and Hwang Chi-woo, O Gyu-won, Kim Hye-soon, Haam Min-bock, Yi Seung-hoon, Kim Seung-hee in 1970~80s to Park Sang-soon, Yi Soo-myong, Yi Won, Haam Ki-seock, Seong Kwi-soo in and after 1990s. These poets have been surely the avant-garde as pioneers who have scudded tremendously for the modern poetic freshness, openness, and originality to be condensed into the 'experimentation' and 'deconstruction.' Consequently, this paper has acquired a meaning of poetic examination of the possibilities that the poetry of Yi Sang will also have its inter-textuality in 21th century.
Altered PLCβ-1 expression in the gerbil hippocampal complex following spontaneous seizure

Although the phospholipase C (PLC)β-1 isoform is associated with spontaneous seizure and distinctively expressed in the telencephalon, the distribution of PLCβ-1 expression in the epileptic gerbil hippocampus remains controversial. Therefore, we determined whether PLCβ-1 is associated with spontaneous seizure in an animal model of genetic epilepsy. In the present study, PLCβ-1 immunoreactivity was down-regulated in seizure-sensitive (SS) gerbils more than in seizure-resistant (SR) gerbils. The expression of PLCβ-1 within calretinin (CR)-positive neurons was rarely detected within the dentate hilar region of SS gerbils. PLCβ-1 immunoreactivity in the hippocampus was significantly elevated as compared to that in pre-seizure SS gerbil 3 h post-ictal. These findings suggest that alterations in PLCβ-1 immunoreactivity in the SS gerbil hippocampus may be closely related to the epileptic state of the gerbil brain and transiently elevated PLCβ-1 protein levels following seizure episodes. Such alterations may be compensatory responses in the SS gerbil hippocampus. [BMB reports 2011; 44(9) : 566-571]

This study was performed to identify the effects of muscle strengthening program of lower extremity for 8 weeks on the balancing and gait in stroke patients to provide the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions and understandings of stroke patients. Methods The subjects were 14 patients who were diagnosed hemiplegia from stroke in over past 6 months. 14 subjects were randomized into 7 control group and 7 study group. The subjects in the study group received not only physical therapy but also muscle strengthening program of lower extremity for 8 weeks. However, no additional intervention was applied to the subjects in the control group. FRT, BBS, TUG, and 6MWT was performed before and after the intervention for comparison. Results Significant difference was observed in FRT in the study group. The range of arm extension increased from 12.8㎝ to 19.4㎝ in the study group(p=.018, p<0.05) which was significant. Second, the scores in BBS showed increase in the study group but without significance(p=.727, p>0.05). Third, there were changes in the time of completion for TUG test. The time in the study group decreased from 44.3 sec to 39.5 sec(p=.064, p> 0.05) and the one in the control group increased from 27.8 sec to 28.8 sec(p=.761, p>0.05). Forth, both groups showed decrease in the completion distance before and after the intervention in 6MWT. Lastly, there was substantial amount of positive correlated(p<0.01) between BBS and FRT which were to evaluate the balance among the tests of FRT, BBS, TUG, and 6MWT. Conclusion The muscle strengthening program of lower extremity for 8 weeks appears to show positive effects in the enhancement of balancing ability. Also, we could understand that the enhancement of balancing ability has correlated to the enhancement of gait as well. Based on these results, it is considered that the complex approach in the therapeutic intervention for the stroke patients including the muscle strengthening program of lower extremity will help the effective recovery of balancing and gait of stroke patients.

In order to use an enzyme industrially, it is necessary to increase the activity of the enzyme and optimize the reaction characteristics through molecular evolution techniques. We used the errorprone PCR method to improve the reaction characteristics of LipCA lipase discovered in Antarctic Croceibacter atlanticus. Recombinant Escherichia coli colonies showing large halo zones were selected in tributyrin-containing medium. The lipase activity of one mutant strain (M3-1) was significantly increased, compared to the wild-type (WT) strain. M3-1 strain produced about three times more lipase enzyme than did WT strain. After confirming the nucleotide sequence of the M3-1 gene to be different from that of the WT gene by four bases (73, 381, 756, and 822), the secondary structures of WT and M3-1 mRNA were predicted and compared by RNAfold web program. Compared to the mean free energy (MFE) of WT mRNA, that of M3-1 mRNA was lowered by 4.4 kcal/mol, and the MFE value was significantly lowered by mutations of bases 73 and 756. Site-directed mutagenesis was performed to find out which of the four base mutations actually affected the enzyme expression level. Among them, one mutant enzyme production decreased as WT enzyme production when the base 73 was changed (T→C). These results show that one base change at position 73 can significantly affect protein expression level, and demonstrate that changing the mRNA sequence can increase the stability of mRNA, and can increase the production of foreign protein in E. coli.
