Optimization of Spin-Valve Structure NiFe/Cu/NiFe/IrMn for Planar Hall Effect Based Biochips

<P>This paper deals with the planar Hall effect (PHE) of Ta(5)/NiFe(t<SUB>F</SUB>)/Cu(1.2)/NiFe(t<SUB>P</SUB>)/IrMn(15)/Ta(5) (nm) spin-valve structures. Experimental investigations are performed for 50 mumtimes50 mum junctions with various thicknesses of free layer (t<SUB>F</SUB> = 4, 8, 10, 12, 16, 26 nm) and pinned layer (t<SUB>P</SUB> = 1, 2, 6, 8, 9, 12 nm). The results show that the thicker free layers, the higher PHE signal is observed. In addition, the thicker pinned layers lower PHE signal. The highest PHE sensitivity S of 196 muV/(kA/m) is obtained in the spin-valve configuration with t<SUB>F</SUB> = 26 nm and t<SUB>P</SUB> = 1 nm. The results are discussed in terms of the spin twist as well as to the coherent rotation of the magnetization in the individual ferromagnetic layers. This optimization is rather promising for the spintronic biochip developments.</P>

International experience and innovation capacity are factors often related to the internationalization processes of firms. The main objective of this research is to investigate the impact of international experience and innovation capacity on the export performance of Vietnamese agricultural SMEs in order to identify which factor is more significant. The Resource-Based View and Dynamic Capabilities approach were used as theoretical frameworks. The data were analyzed through partial least squares structural equation modelling. The results indicate that international experience has a greater impact on export performance than innovation capacity, showing that there is possibility of overemphasizing the role of innovation capacity in the export performance of Vietnamese agricultural SMEs.
Classification of Five Ambulatory Activities Regarding Stair and Incline Walking Using Smart Shoes

<P>In this paper, we propose a novel method to classify five ambulatory activities, i.e., level ground, incline descent, incline ascent, stair descent, and stair ascent walking using smart shoes which contain eight plantar-pressure sensors on each shoe. Pressure data are collected using an insole-based monitoring system regarding the walking activities conducted by participants at their self-imposed “normal” speed. We present three new features based on an analysis of step patterns to characterize the ambulatory activities and utilize a k-nearest neighbor algorithm to classify the activities from the created features. In experimental results, we obtain walking activity-recognition error rates of 2.16% at the sixth walking step. Furthermore, a proposed method outperforms two reference methods in terms of F1-score and overall accuracy rate.</P>
Position-Based Feature Selection for Body Sensors regarding Daily Living Activity Recognition

<P>This paper proposes a novel approach to recognize activities based on sensor-placement feature selection. The method is designed to address a problem of multisensor fusion information of wearable sensors which are located in different positions of a human body. Precisely, the approach can extract the best feature set that characterizes each activity regarding a body-sensor location to recognize daily living activities. We firstly preprocess the raw data by utilizing a low-pass filter. After extracting various features, feature selection algorithms are applied separately on feature sets of each sensor to obtain the best feature set for each body position. Then, we investigate the correlation of the features in each set to optimize the feature set. Finally, a classifier is applied to an optimized feature set, which contains features from four body positions to classify thirteen activities. In experimental results, we obtain an overall accuracy of 99.13% by applying the proposed method to the benchmark dataset. The results show that we can reduce the computation time for the feature selection step and achieve a high accuracy rate by performing feature selection for the placement of each sensor. In addition, our proposed method can be used for a multiple-sensor configuration to classify activities of daily living. The method is also expected to deploy to an activity classification system-based big data platform since each sensor node only sends essential information characterizing itself to a cloud server.</P>

In this study, longan seeds - an agricultural by-product was used to fabricate activated carbon (LSAC) through two-step pyrolysis with pre-carbonization at low temperature in the first step and then activation by H3PO4. LSAC with large surface area and porous structure exhibits an excellent capacity of absorption towards both cationic dyes (methylene blue (MB), rhodamine-B (RhB)) and anionic dyes (methyl orange (MO), congo red (CR)). Experimental data can be described well by the pseudo-second kinetic model. The maximum adsorption capacity based on Langmuir isotherm model was found as 502.84; 397.77; 464.66 and 350.64 mg.g−1 for MB, RhB, MO and CR, respectively. The adsorption of MB, RhB and CR on LSAC is spontaneous and endothermic, while that for MO is spontaneous but exothermic. Furthermore, the adsorption mechanism of dyes on LSAC was also studied showing that it can occur by electrostatic interaction, hydrogen bonding, the filling of pores involving the interaction between dye ions with specific functional groups such as –OH, –COOH, –NH2 and –PO43− on the LSAC surface. These results suggest that LSAC material may be envisaged as a promising adsorbent for treatment of wastewater in textile industries.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A new hybrid pilot plant configuration based on a modularized rolled pipe system (RPS) combined with a submerged flat sheet membrane bioreactor (MBR) was investigated to enhance the sewage treatment and membrane performance. The system was operated under actual conditions for more than four months, that is, at a constant flow rate of 30 m³/d and with two internal recycling ratios. The results indicate that the hybrid system produces an excellent effluent quality and considerably mitigated membrane fouling. The average concentrations of SS, COD, TN, NH<SUB>4</SUB> <SUP>+</SUP>-N, NO<SUB>3</SUB> <SUP>−</SUP>-N, and PO<SUB>4</SUB> <SUP>3-</SUP>-P remained below 2.81, 8.29, 8.77, 0.15, 8.17, and 1.49 mg/L, respectively. It was estimated that the periodic chemical cleaning of the membrane could be extended to approximately six months. The MBR and RPS can virtually complete nitrification and denitrification, respectively. The highest average denitrification rate of the RPS is 116.95 mg NO<SUB>3</SUB>-N/(g MLVSS d), with a hydraulic retention time of 1.05 h. Therefore, the RPS–MBR hybrid system has potential to improve the sewage treatability.
